Course Brief:

Fostering Strengths is a training program initiated by iCALL, TISS in collaboration with Vishakha. Fostering Strengths caters to helping professionals engaged with issues of psychosocial wellbeing of adolescents and young people. The course aims to equip helping professionals with knowledge, perspectives and skills that are contextualized, evidence-based and multi layered. Informed by a participatory, empowerment-oriented approach, the course is guided by a uniquely designed curriculum and is facilitated by a team of experts specializing in different areas of work concerning adolescents and young people.


Course Objectives:
·         To help professionals develop a deeper as well as broader understanding and knowledge of psychosocial issues faced by adolescents and young people and how they are intertwined with socio-cultural factors
·         To acquaint professionals with perspectives and frameworks for conceptualizing psychosocial issues of adolescents and young people
·         To help professionals learn psychosocial skills and interventions to work directly with adolescents and young people
·         To help professionals build programmatic skills and interventions to mobilize stakeholders and the community at large for engaging in preventive as well as interventive work with adolescents and young people

Course Structure & Dates:
·       9 days of on-campus residential contact class - 15th-24th November, 2019
·        3 months of practicum component after the contact class, initiated within the professional’s organization/setting which works towards psychosocial wellbeing of adolescents and young people 
·         Weekly supervision during the practicum
·         3 days of follow-up (in March 2020 tentatively)

Eligibility:
• Bachelors in any applied social sciences discipline* + Min 3 years if direct work towards psychosocial well-being of adolescents and young people
• Masters in any applied social sciences discipline* + Min 1 year of direct work towards psychosocial wellbeing of adolescents and young people
*Applied Social Sciences disciplines include: Social Work, Psychology, Human Development, Education

About iCALL:
iCALL is a field action project initiated by the School of Human Ecology, TISS, which provides immediate, anonymous and professional counselling services over telephone and emails to individuals in psychosocial distress. iCALL also undertakes mental health outreach activities, capacity building and consultancy for corporates, educational institutions, government agencies, and NGOs along with generating research and publications with respect to concerns of adolescents and young people as well as for mental distress and counselling in general.

About Vishakha:


Founded in 1991, Vishakha has been a part of the Women’s movement in Rajasthan and has been working towards empowerment of Women, girls & youth through mobilization, capacity building & community led advocacy in rural & urban communities. Identifying gaps in psychosocial support available to young people, in 2013, Vishakha developed a “youth pertinent”, empowerment oriented counselling framework, delivered through a youth resource centre & counselling services in educational & training institutes, reaching over 1000 youth..

Science Fiction story writing competition for PhD students

Entries have been invited under the ‘AWSAR’ Programme of the National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC) Division.

The AWSAR stands for “Augmenting Writing Skills for Articulating Research”, which is an initiative to disseminate Indian research stories among the masses in a format that's easy to understand and interesting for a lay reader. Under this initiative, PhD and post-doctoral scholars in science and technology streams would be encouraged to write at least one popular science story during the tenancy of their scholarship, and to participate in a national competition.
Indian citizen pursuing PhD or PDF in any stream of Science and Technology (S&T), within the tenancy of respective fellowship can apply.

Award Categories
Selection of best 100 entries of popular science stories and prizes.
For PhD researchers: The initial screening of the entry will be done by expert panel. 100 entries will be selected and each will be awarded with cash prize of   10,000/- along with Certificate of Appreciation.
For Post doc fellows: Twenty entries would be selected from articles submitted by PDFs relating to their line of research. Each will be awarded with cash prize of   10,000/- along with Certificate of Appreciation.
Selection of top three leading stories
For PhD researchers: The top three articles/stories will be selected from the leading stories. Further, they will be awarded with the cash prize of   1,00,000/-,   50,000/- and   25,000/- respectively.
For Post doc fellows: One outstanding article/story will be selected from the leading stories. Further the same will be awarded with the cash prize of   1,00,000/-.
These awards will be bestowed on 28 February at National Science Day event every year. All the awardees will be given an opportunity to attend Science Film Training Workshop organized by Vigyan Prasar.

The following will be the criteria for judging the entries:

The entries will be judged on the basis of accuracy, clarity, insightfulness, and resourcefulness.
The entries should convincingly Awer the questions such as why does the research matter? Does the story explain the writer’s research in a way that is easy to comprehend? Is it a compelling read? etc.
The judgement will be done by a panel of science writers and scientists selected by Department of Science and Technology.
These awards will be bestowed on 28th February at National Science day. All the awardees will be given an opportunity to attend Science Film Training Workshop organized by Vigyam Prasar.

The Unified Council, Hyderabad, is inviting applications for National Level Science Talent Search Examination (NSTSE), 2018 from students who wish to assess their strengths, Weaknesses and nourish their minds for a bright and enterprising future.


About NSTSE 2018
NSTSE 2018 - India's most popular Assessment Exam. NSTSE is a diagnostic test that measures how well a student has understood Mathematics & Science concepts and gives detailed feedback on the same, to help them improve

a) NSTSE topper will be awarded with Rs 2,00,000/- cash prize. The student who achieves the highest percentage of marks among all the classes is declared as NSTSE Topper.


b) The top three rankers of each class are awarded a Tablet PC + a Memento + a Medal, each


c) Rankers 4 to 25 of each class are awarded a cash prize of Rs.1000 each


d) Rankers 26 to 100 of each class are each awarded Talent & Olympiad Exams Resource Book from M/s. Brain Mapping Academy


*NSTSE Topper:
A student of any class who achieves 100% marks is awarded a prize of Rs.2,00,000. If no student achieves the same, then the student who achieves the highest percentage of marks among all the classes, is awarded Rs.1,00,000


If more than one student achieve the same, the prize money is distributed equally among them. Each topper gets either this prize or the regular prize

Students of classes I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI (PCM), XI (PCB), XII (PCM), XII (PCB) are eligible to participate in this examination


There is no exam for XI, XII PCMB group


NSTSE follows CBSE syllabus, Question Papers are also suitable for Students of ICSE/ISC and Various State Board/Matriculation Syllabi


Selection Process for NSTSE 2018
The Selection would be based on the written examination. The exam would test the Science and Mathematics ability of the students.


The Exam would be conducted on 04th February 2018 (Sunday). NSTSE result 2018 would be available on the NSTSE website.


Exam Pattern for NSTSE 2018
There will be a separate question paper for each class and the exam would be in English language. There will be objective type questions of one mark each and no negative marking for wrong answers. NSTSE exam will be of 90 minutes.


Syllabus
NSTSE is based on the CBSE syllabus and 85% of the syllabus is considered for setting the NSTSE Question Paper


NSTSE question papers are suitable also for students following ICSE/ISC and various other State Board syllabi


Exam Fee for NSTSE 2018
Rs.300/- which includes Exam Fee
Examination Fee, Success series book, Set of Previous Question Papers (MQP), Student's Performance Report (SPR) and postal charges
Instead of sending the Demand Draft, you can use Online Payment facility and you can use Credit Card/ Debit Card/NET Banking for Online payment

Students can get a Free Printed Registration Form from office by writing a letter along with a self addressed envelope with stamps of Rs.5/- (or)
