Target Group in India is Research groups, Professors and postdoctoral students employed by or affiliated with an accredited academic institution or a non-profit research institution in India.

Researchers engaged in the fields of Science and Engineering can receive assistance in their research projects from German interns having academic training in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, engineering, or a closely related field.

Requirements and Conditions for Indian Participants:
Researchers, Professors and Postdoctoral students to ensure scientific and academic supervision of the assigned German intern. In addition, to provide support in local administrative matters, finding accommodation and if possible, suggesting recreational activities.

2. Candidates with BE / BTech degree or equivalent with excellent academic record (minimum CGPA of 9.00 on 10 point scale or 80% marks in aggregate) may be considered for direct admission.

Relaxation in CGPA to 7.00 on a 10-point scale or in marks to 65% for the minimum eligibility conditions may be permitted for candidates with a BE / BTech degree or equivalent who have a minimum of 3 years of professional and / or research experience in the area in which the admission is sought. However, candidates admitted with BE / BTech or equivalent qualification will be admitted for PhD after successful completion of eight Masters level courses as suggested by the PhD Admission Committee of concerned Department/School, within a period of two years from the date of admission. A minimum CGPA of 6.00 on a 10-point scale should be earned in the courses prescribed by the concerned Department/School.

Part-time studies leading to PhD degree are permitted for professionally employed personnel such as working engineers, scientists and teachers. Part-time studies leading to PhD shall also be permitted to persons working in Institutions with which a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed for research purposes. Such a candidate must be in employment at the time of admission and be engaged in professional work in the area to which admission is sought.

Admission:
The admission to PhD Programme for the session 2011-12 will be made on the basis of Entrance Examination conducted by the University at 11:00 am followed by Interview at 3.00 pm on 16-12-2011 in the respective Dept. / School the University.
During interview, a candidate is required to present his / her area of proposed research. Relaxation for appearing in the entrance test may be given to those candidates who have done MPhil or have qualified UGC / CSIR (JRF) / SLET / GATE.

The Score of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) turning to be a screening tool for recruitment of Engineer trainees to major Public Sector Undertakings in the country, GATE 2012 has all of a sudden turned out to be a major attraction with over 10 lakhs expected to have registered for the examination.

GATE till now was only an eligibility examination for students to do Post Graduation in Engineering/Technology with MHRD and other Fellowships/ Scholarships. However, from 2012, it is going to be a score that is going to be used to short list applicants for selection of Graduate Engineer trainees in several organizations. These undertakings include BHEL, NTPC and Indian Oil.

BHEL: BHEL is planning to recruit a total of 800 Engineer Trainee for 2012-13 from Mechanical (550 numbers), Electrical (175) and Electronics (75)

Candidates who wish to apply for Engineer Trainee position in BHEL for the year 2012-13 will be required to take the Graduate Aptitude Test of Engineering - 2012 (GATE-2012). The scores obtained in GATE-2012 will be utilized by BHEL for inviting candidates for a Personal Interview for consideration for the position of Engineer Trainees. After submitting applications for GATE-2012, candidates will be allotted Registration No. Candidates will have to separately apply on-line to BHEL for which BHEL recruitment website http://careers.bhel.in will be activated from 4.1.2012. In BHEL on-line applications, candidates will have to give their GATE-2012 registration No.

General/OBC candidates are required to make a payment of Rs. 100/- as processing fee through the Powerjyoti Account (details will be made available at the website from 4th January, 2012). SC/ST/PH candidates are exempted from payment of this fee. On submission of online application, the system will generate an Acknowledgement Slip having a unique Acknowledgement No. Candidates should take a print out of the Acknowledgement Slip, affix a copy of the same photograph used for GATE-2012, sign at the space provided and send it to BHEL along with the challan of Rs. 100/-. The passport size photograph affixed by the candidate should be the same submitted along with GATE-2012 application form. In case the candidate is called for interview, he/she will have to bring with him/her, the GATE-2012 admit card, GATE-2012 official score card and other relevant documents which will be mentioned in the interview call letter.

Selection process will comprise of GATE 2012 score of the candidates in the concerned disciplines & performance in Interview. The candidates will be short listed for interview on the basis of GATE-2012 score in order of merit in the ratio of 1:3 to the number of vacancies in each discipline and category. For Physically Challenged candidates, relaxation of 20% below the cut-off marks will be provided. Final selection panels shall be prepared by assigning a weightage of 75% for GATE-2012 score and 25% to Interview marks.

For applying the above ratio, initially, all UR candidates of each discipline of Engineering along with such reserved category candidates of that discipline, who do not avail any relaxation, will be grouped together and then arranged in descending order of GATE-2012 score and candidates, shall be called for interview in the ratio of 1: 3 in UR category. After this, candidates belonging to OBC/SC/ST categories, who are not short listed for interview as UR, shall be regrouped with their respective categories for further consideration in their respective categories and candidates will be called for interview in the prescribed ratio of 1:3. Later on, at the time of final selection, the same exercise will be carried out.

Central Sector Scholarship for HSC/VHSE 2011-2012


The Director of Collegiate Education, Kerala, has invited applications from students who have scored more than 80% marks in the Plus Two/VHSC Examinations, March 2011, conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Education / Board of Vocational Higher Secondary Education Government of Kerala, and who are pursuing any regular course at Under Graduate level in recognised Educational Institutions, including Professional Courses such as Medical, Engineering etc. for the Central Sector Scholarship for Under Graduate Studies, for the academic year 2011-12.

The scholarship, offered by Ministry of Human Resource Development Department of Higher Education, Govt of India, aims at providing financial assistance to meritorious students from low income families. The total number of scholarships for the state will be as decided by the Central Government, based on the statistics of the population in the age of 18-25 years in the state. 50% of the scholarships would be earmarked for girls. The scholarships would be distributed amongst the pass-outs of the Science, Commerce and Humanities streams in the ratio of 3:2:1. Scholarships are reserved for SC (15%), ST (7½ %) and OBC (27%). Three percent scholarships are reserved for Physically handicapped students, horizontally, in all the categories.

Rate of Scholarship: Students doing Under Graduate courses, will be awarded Rs.1000/- per month for (subject to a maximum of Rs. 10,000/- for an academic year) and Rs. 2000/- per month for Post-Graduate studies (subject to a maximum of Rs. 20,000/- for an academic year), provided they are selected for Scholarship at UG level.

For Professional Courses, the scholarship is Rs.1000/- per month for the first three years (Subject to a maximum of Rs. 10,000/- for an academic year) and Rs. 2000/- per month for the 4th and 5th years of study (Subject to a maximum of Rs. 20,000/- for an academic year).

Eligibility: Applicant should have scored a minimum of 80% of marks in the Plus Two/VHSC Examinations of March 2011 conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Education / Board of Vocational Higher Secondary Education, Government of Kerala and should be pursuing any Regular Course at Under-Graduate Degree level in any recognised Educational Institution, including Professional Courses such as Medical, Engineering etc. Those pursuing Parallel/ Private Registration/ Correspondence/ Distance Education courses are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Parental income (of both father and mother) should not exceed Rs. 4 ½ lakhs per annum for the financial year ending March 2011. Applicant should not be availing any other scholarships/ Financial Assistance.

Applicants should not be belonging to the Creamy-layer as defined by the Department of Personal and Training in their Notification number 36012/22/93 Esst.(SCT) dated 8/11/93 (Annexure IV) and as modified vide their OM No.36033/3/2004-Esst(Res) Dated: 9/3/2004 (Annexure V) and as may be modified from time to time. Applicant should be listed in the list of candidates’ eligible for applying for the scholarship as per the select list available at http://dcescholarship.kerala.gov.in/dce/main/selection_list.php

Applicant should have a Bank account in his/her name in one of State Bank of Travancore/ State Bank of India / South Indian Bank/Federal Bank. This is mandatory to apply for the Scholarship.

Applicants who are currently studying outside the state have to do online registration first. They have to submit the application through the Head of their Institution where they are studying now. For those outside the state, before the online registration by the student, the institution has to register in the website. The institution should send their details to dcedirectorate@gmail.com and the registration will be initiated by the Department. The institution will be provided with user Id and password to login the scholarship site by which the institution has to complete the registration and add their courses and course fees in the site. The verifying officer of the institution has to verify and the Principal has to forward the online printout and supporting documents submitted by the students to the Special Officer Scholarships.

Procedure for Online Submission of Application:

(ii) Click the button ‘Selection List’ to see whether the Candidate’s name is in the Selection List. Only those Candidates whose names are included in the ‘Selection List’ can apply for the Scholarship.

If the candidate has already registered his/ her name for any other Scholarship at this site, the candidate may login with the previous registration details. The Certificate stating that the Candidate is pursuing the Under Graduate course in the Institution has to be given in the prescribed place in the Registration Printout. Verification and Approval by the Institutions are to be completed by 3rd December, 2011.

Such a candidate has to attend and clear compulsorily at least four theory courses of MTech in relevant discipline, as decided by the DRC.

(d) Bachelor’s degree (BTech / BE) in appropriate discipline, or equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 7.6 or 70% marks in aggregate (of all the years / semesters of the course), and a minimum of 15 years of regular service in Govt. Organizations or teaching institutes of degree level. Such a candidate has to clear compulsorily at least four theory courses of MTech in relevant discipline, as decided by the DRC.

ii) Sciences, Mathematics & Computer Applications Streams-
First Master’s degree in the appropriate discipline, or equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 7.0 or 65% marks in aggregate (of all the years / semesters of the course).

iii) Humanities, Social Sciences & Management Streams-
First Master’s degree in the appropriate discipline, or equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 6.7 or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years / semesters of the course).

Additional Eligibility Conditions for Part-Time PhD Admission:
a) The applicant should be an employee of an educational institute / org and must have completed on the last day of receiving applications, a minimum of two years of continuous service as at least a Lecturer or equivalent.
b) The candidate proves to the satisfaction of the DRC that his / her official duties permit him to devote sufficient time to research.
c) The candidate proves to the satisfaction of the DRC that facilities for pursuing research in the chosen field of research are available at his place of work.
d) He is required to visit (on working days) NITK to discuss the research work with his supervisor in the Dept. He may visit any number of times but must visit at least twice in each semester at intervals of not less than a month. All such visits be reported to the Chairman of the DRC for record.

Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award - 2011

The Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India has invited applications from outstanding young scientists with innovative ideas and desirous of pursuing research in frontier areas of biotechnology for the 'INNOVATIVE YOUNG BIOTECHNOLOGIST AWARD' (IYBA) for the year 2011.

The young scientists below the age of 35 years are considered for this award. The scientists without regular employment are also eligible for this award. The award consists of financial support for a project besides a fellowship of Rs.25, 000/- per month for those awardees who are not in regular employment. The awardees those are not in the regular employment can be attached to a senior scientist (Mentor) in a University, Research Institute, Medical / Agriculture / Veterinary College, or any other institute of repute, provided the mentor agrees to provide laboratory space and other facilities. It is expected that the awardees will work independently and the Mentor will facilitate the awardees’ research efforts. Awardees having a regular employment will receive a cash award of Rs.1, 00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Only) every year during the course of the project.

Eligibility:
The applicant should have an excellent academic career and should have publications in high impact journals and/or should have invented technologies supported by Indian / International patents. The proposed research project should clearly reflect the innovative thinking and execution capabilities of the applicant.

1. The candidate should have secured First Class grades in examinations of all academic courses for award of a degree from the graduate level onwards. The minimum eligibility criteria for applicants will be the following:

2. Cumulative publication impact factor of 10 OR Cumulative publication impact factor of 5 with two registered Indian Patents or one International patent.

3. Qualification: PhD in any branch of life science including Medicine, Veterinary Sciences, Pharmacy, Agricultural Sciences, and engineering sciences. Master degree in Medicine, Engineering / Technology is also eligible to apply.

4. Age limit: 35 years or below at the time of submission of the application. Age relaxation of 5 years is made for candidates belonging to SC / ST / OBC, Women and Physically Handicapped Category.

5. The applicant should be an Indian National. In addition to the above minimum eligibility criteria, it is essential that the proposed project work is carried out in any recognized research

6. Institution / university in India having adequate facilities to carry out the proposed research project. A consent letter from the Institution / University is required to be furnished along with the application.

7. A nomination / recommendation by a Fellow of any of the National Academies, or a Director of National Laboratory, or a Head of an S&T Department of Government of India, or a Vice-Chancellor of a University or an eminent scientist in the field of biotechnology is also essential.

The applications received from eligible candidates are reviewed by an expert committee for selection of IYBA on the basis of their career profile, distinctions, publications, patents, innovative thinking, scientific originality of the project and the detailed scientific comments. Eligibility Conditions:

(I) Nationality
A candidate must be either:
(a) A citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, The United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

(II) Age Limits
(a) A candidate must have attained the age of 17 years and must not have attained the age of 21 years on 1st January, 2012, i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1991 and not later than 1st January, 1995.

(b) The upper age limit is relaxable as follows:
(i) up to a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe.
(ii) up to a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates.
(iii) up to a maximum of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to the 31st day of December, 1989.
(iv) up to a maximum of three years in the case of Defence Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof:
(v) up to a maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs / SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service as on 1st January, 2012 and have been released (1) on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year from 1st January, 2012) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency, or (2) on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service, or (3) on invalidment.
(vi) Up to a maximum of five years in the case of ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of five years of Military Service as on 1st January, 2012 and whose assignment has been extended beyond five years and in whose case the Ministry of Defence issues a certificate that they can apply for civil employment and that they will be released on three month's notice on selection from the date of receipt of offer of appointment.
(vii) Up to a maximum of 10 years in the case of blind, deaf-mute and Orthopaedically handicapped persons.

(III) Educational Qualifications:
For admission to the examination a candidate
(a) must have passed in the first or second division, the Intermediate or an equivalent Examination of a University or Board approved by the Government of India with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination. Graduates with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as their degree subjects may also apply; or

(b) must have passed in the first or second division, the Higher Secondary (12 years) Examination under 10 plus 2 pattern of School Education with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination; or

(c) must have passed the first year Examination under the three year degree course of a university or the first examination of the three year diploma course in Rural Service of the National Council for Rural Higher Education or the third year Examination for promotion to the 4th year of the four year BA / BSc (Evening College) Course of the Madras University with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination provided that before joining the degree / diploma course he / she passed the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or equivalent examination in the first or second division. Candidates who have passed the first / second year examination under the three-years degree course in the first or second division with Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry as subjects of the Examination may also apply; provided the first / second year examination is conducted by a University; or

(d) must have passed in the first or second division the Pre-Engineering Examination of a University, approved by the Government of India; or

(e) must have passed in the first or second division the Pre-Professional / Pre-Technological Examination of any Indian University or a recognised Board, with Mathematics and at least, one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination conducted one year after the Higher Secondary or Pre-University stage; or

(f) must have passed the first year examination under the five year Engineering Degree Course of a University: Provided that before joining the Degree Course, he / she passed the Higher Secondary Examination or pre-University or equivalent Examination in the first or second division. Candidates who have passed the first
year Examination of the five-year Engineering Degree Course in the first or second division may also apply provided the first year Examination is conducted by a University; or

(g) must have passed in the first or second division the Pre-Degree Examination of the Universities of Kerala and Calicut with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the Examination.

(IV) Physical Standards:
Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Special Class Railway Apprentices, Examination, 2012 as per Regulations given in Appendix-II of the rules for the Special Class Railway Apprentices, Examination, 2012 published in Gazette of India dated 22nd October, 2011.

Additional Methodology Programme in BEd (AMP-BEd - DM) Admissions 2011-2012

Applications are invited through proper channel from women teachers for admission into Additional Methodology Programme in BEd course 2011-12 of Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam offered in Distance Education Centre in SPMVV campus.

Eligibility:
A candidate seeking admission into BEd Additional Methodology Programme should have passed BEd Degree from a recognized university. The methodology chosen should be the subjects of study at their graduation level.

Fees:
The candidates who are selected for admission should submit to the Director, Distance Education Centre, S.P. Mahila Visvavidyalayam on or before the date of admission, a demand draft for Rs. 6000/- drawn in favour of the Registrar, Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam payable at Tirupati with the name and address of the candidate written on the reverse of the draft.

Application Procedure:
Application and prospectus can be obtained from the Director, Distance Education Centre, Sri Padmavati Mahila University, Tirupati by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope (Rs. 10/- for ordinary post and Rs. 30/- for Registered post) of size 28cms x 13cms along with a Demand Draft for Rs. 250/- on any Nationalised Bank drawn in favour of the Registrar, Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam payable at Tirupati with the name and address of the applicant written on the reverse of the draft, or by submitting the Demand Draft in person. If the applicant is in-service candidate the application should be sent through proper channel.

Enclosures: Attested copies of the following should be enclosed along with the application:
1. BEd Degree Certificate / BEd Provisional Certificate
2. Graduation Degree Certificate
3. BEd Degree Marks Statement
4. Three Years BA / BSc Degree Marks Statements
5. Service certificate (if the candidate is in service)
6. No objection Certificate

Last date for Submission of the application to The Director, Distance Education Centre, S.P. Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati-2 is 31-10-2011.
