Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) invites applications for admission to the following programmes:



1. M.Sc. (Economics):
This is a two-year programme commencing August 2009.

Eligibility:
Minimum qualification: B.A. / B.Sc. in Economics / B.Com. / B.Stat. / B.Sc. (Physics or mathematics)/ B.Tech. /B.E. with at least a second division or Economics discipline and lirst division for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary level or should be able to demonstrate equivalent mathematical ability.

Some need based scholarships are available to Masters students as per Institute's norms. The second year Masters students are eligible to express interest to work as Graduate Assistants and depending upon the availability and norms, might be awarded such assistant ships.

2. M.Phil/Ph.D. (Development Studies):
These are interdisciplinary programmes commencing August 2009. The duration of M.Phil, programme is two years and that of Ph.D. programme is four years.

Eligibility :
M.A. / M.Sc in Economics / M.Stat. / M.Sc. (Physics, Mathematics. Environmental Science or Operations Research) / M.B.A. / M.Tech. / M.E. / B.Tech. / B.E, with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary level or should be able to demonstrate equivalent mathematical ability.

Stipend:
M.Phil./Ph.D. students receive a monthly stipend of Rs.12,000/- in the first two years. Those students, who fulfill the terms and conditions for Ph.D. registration, would receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 18,000/- after Ph.D. registration in the third year.

Selection Procedure:
Candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in a written test and an interview. The written test emphasizes general aptitude, analytical ability and mathematical skills. The test will be held on April 26,2009 at the following centres: Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow. Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, and Thiruvananthapuram. The test venue will be notified in the call letter. Based on the performance in the written test, short listed candidates will be called for an interview at IGIDR around the first week of July 2009. Second class return rail fare by the shortest route From the place of residence will be paid to the candidates interviewed. The decision of the selection committee will be final.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants possessing minimum second class in the following are eligible to apply:

1. Selection is based on valid GATE score only.

(b) M Tech in Electronics Design and Technology, Computational Science, Climate Science and Instrumentation.

ELIGIBILITY

Minimum second class in the qualifying examination:

Electronics Design and Technology: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology with Electronics as one of the subjects of study; or Post B Sc AMIE or equivalent in Engineering; or Master's degree in Physics (with Electronics as special subject) and 2 years experience in Electronics hardware.

Computational Science: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology; or Master's degree in Science (strong mathematical and programming background is required).

Climate Science: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology; or Master's degree in Physical Sciences.

(4) Instrumentation: Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology in Instrumentation / Instrumentation & Control Engineering / Electronics & Instrumentation / Electronics; or Master's degree in Science with specialization in Instrumentation/Electronics.

Selection for (1), (2) .and (3) is based on an aptitude test and interview subsequent to shortlisting based on valid GATE score and for (4) based on valid GATE score only.

(c) M DES in Product Design & Engineering

ELIGIBILITY.

Minimum second class at Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology / Design / Architecture or Post B Sc AMIE or equivalent degree in Engineering including Architecture. Selection is based on a Design Aptitude Test and interview subsequent to short-listing based on valid GATE / CEED scores.

(iii) INTEGRATED Ph D PROGRAM

(1) Biological, (2) Chemical, (3) Physical and (4) Mathematical Sciences ELIGIBILITY First-class in B Scdegree under 10+2+3 years system as indicated below for the various disciplines.

1. Biological Sciences: B Sc degree in Physical, Chemical or Biological Sciences (including Pharmaceutical, Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences).

2. Chemical Sciences: B Sc degree with Chemistry as one of the main subjects associated with Mathematics at PUC (Plus 2) level.

3. Physical Sciences: B Sc degree with Physics as a main subject.

4. Mathematical Sciences: B. Math; or B. Stat; orB Sc; or BA degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects or Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

All the candidates should qualify in HSc Entrance Test scheduled for 26" April 2009. The short-listing of candidates for interview is based on performance in the IISc Entrance Test.

(iv) EXTERNAL REGISTRATION PROGRAM(Ph D/M Sc(Enqq)

It is a Sponsored Research program for working professionals from (1) R&D Organizations / Industries [for Ph D / M Sc(Engg)] and (2) for Faculty members from Engineering, Agricultural, Pharmaceutical, Veterinary, Medical Colleges/ Universities, recognized by the appropriate government agencies [for Ph D only].

Ph D in Science: All the Science departments as indicated in (i) except High Energy Physics. M Sc (Engg) & Ph D: All the Engineering departments as indicated in (i). ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications remain the same as for the regular candidates apart from that these should have two years experience in the current employment Age: NOT higher than 35 years for M Sc(Engg) and 40 years for Ph D as on 01.04.2009.

Desirable: Qualifying in one of the tests;l!Sc Entrance Test.CSIR-UGC NET for JRF, UGC-NET for JRF, DBT JRF, ICMR JRF, GATE, NBHM.

Selection is based on individual's performance in the interview to be conducted at the IISc. Reservation for SC/ST/Physically-Handicapped and Kashmiri-Migrant candidates: As per the Government of India regulations. (Grade / Class of qualifying examination is relaxed to a "pass class" for SC/ST candidates).

Scholarships: All the regular students who join the Institute are eligible for HSc scholarship / fellowship from CSIR / UGC / ICMR / MHRD / AIGTE / NBHM / as the case may be. Scholarships from GE / INFOSYS / IBM / HP / TATA / PHILIPS / BELL LAB are also available for meritorious students.

The DD must be drawn in favor of "Registrar, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore".

Online application Online submission, of application may be made by accessing the IISc website www.iisc.emet.in/admissions w.e.f. 09.02.2009. Online application fee is Rs. 500/- for general category and Rs. 250/-for SC/ST/PH categories.

University of Delhi will be hold a Combined Entrance Examination (CEE) for admission to First Semester of Bachelor of Engineering (BE) courses for the session 2009- 10 for Delhi Region candidates passing from Schools/ Colleges/ Institute located with in National Capital Territory of Delhi, in Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) and Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) on Saturday, the 30th May, 2009.

ELIGIBILITY:
The candidates having Indian nationality should have passed Senior School Certificate Examination from the recognized School / College / Institute located within the National Capital Territory of Delhi or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto by the University of Delhi securing 60% or more marks in the aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (50% or more marks for candidates belonging to SC / ST category, 55% or more marks for candidates belonging to CW (Defence) / Physically Handicapped category).  

The candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply for the CEE-2009.

Minimum Age: 17 years on or before 1st October, 2009.

Reservation of Seats:
15% seats for Scheduled Castes and 7.5% seats for Scheduled Tribes.
5% seats for Children / Widows of Personnel of Armed / Para Military Forces Killed /Disabled in action during hostilities (CW).

3% seats for Physically Handicapped (1% for persons with low vision or blindness, 1% for hearing impaired, 1 % for those with loco-motor disabilities and or cerebral palsy).

Reservation of Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates as per directive approval of the competent authority.

The Combined Entrance Examination consists of objective type questions in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (Combined).

Candidates should have a minimum CGPA of 6.75 (or 60% marks) for General, 6.25 (or 55% marks) for SC/ST, 5.75 (or 50% marks) for physically handicapped (PH) candidates on a 10 point scale in the qualifying examination and also have valid GATE/NET qualification.  Percentage of marks or CGPA shall be calculated taking the aggregate scored by the candidate in all years or as per the norms of the concerned university/Institute. 5% of total numbers of seats are available for officially sponsored candidates from the Govt. Department /P.S.U./R&D organisation with minimum of 2 years experience. Valid GATE/NET score is essential qualification for all disciplines (including M.B.A.) except for the following category of candidates:- (i) Candidates holding B.V.Sc. /M.B.B.S./B.A.M.S. degree; (ii) Foreign nationals; (iii) NRI and their wards category (in case of M.B.A (Pharm.) only; (iv) Sponsored candidates from Public/Private Sector undertakings, Govt. Departments and Research and Development Organizations.

Candidates appearing for final qualifying examinations can also apply but they must produce final result on the day of Counselling/Interview/GD failing which their candidature shall be rejected.

A common written test for all disciplines of the Masters programme will be held on Sunday, the 14th June, 2009 at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Luck now, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune and Trivandrum. The centres may be altered if sufficient numbers of candidates do not register for a particular centre.

Information Brochure containing Application form can be obtained in person or by post from the office of the Organizing Chairperson, NIPER-JEE 2009 on   submission of non refundable Bank Draft of Rs. 1000/-(Rs.500/- for SC/ST) payable at S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali)/Chandigarh in favour of "NIPER-JEE 2009" along with two duly typed self-addressed Slips with name (10 cms X 6 cms). ELIGIBILITY:
A candidate for admission to B.A.LL.B, B.Sc.LL.B & B.B.A.LL.B (Hons.) shall have:

Passed the 10+2 or equivalent in any stream with at least 50 % marks.

For B.Sc.LL.B (Hons.) candidates should have passed 10+2 or equivalent in the science stream with at least 55% marks; and

Not completed 21 years of age as on 1st July 2009.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE:  
Admission to the five year integrated B.A. LL.B; B.Sc. LL.B & B.B.A. LL.B (Hons.) programs will be through a common all-India entrance test (KLSAT). The entrance test will be of two hours duration. The test will consist of multiple choice questions and short answer type questions to test Legal Acumen, Linguistic Skills, Logistic and Analytical Reasoning, Mathematical and Numerical Ability, and General Knowledge. 70% of the questions will be of multiple choice types and the remaining 30% will be of the short answer type.

Application for the admission test can be obtained from the University Counter and various designated branches of Allahabad Bank and Law School Tutorial (LST) centres free of cost.

Eligibility:
M.Sc. in one of the following subjects: Physics, Space Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry (Physical, Nuclear /Analytical), Geology, Geophysics, Ocean Sciences. Engineering students with M.E./M.Tech. (in Electronics and Communication or Computer Engineering or Information Technology or Mechanical Engineering) are also eligible to pursue the Ph.D. programme in Physical Sciences. They must have Physics and Mathematics at the B.Sc. level. A minimum of 60% marks at the Master's level Is required for all candidates. Those appearing for Master's Degree examination in 2009 may also to apply. Those who applied earlier and were not selected need not apply again. Age Limit: Not more than 25 years as on 31/12/2008.

Selection Procedure:
Written test, followed by personal interview for those who qualify in the written test. These will be held at the PRL main campus at Ahmedabad. Written test may be waived for candidates who have qualified with exceptionally good rank in any of the following:
(I) JEST-2009
(ii) GATE (In Physics) 2008/2009,
(iii) UGC-CSIR NET in 2007/2008 in Subject Code-1: Chemical Sciences, or Subject Code-2: Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean & Planetary Sciences, or Subject Code-5: Physical Sciences.

A photocopy of the GATE/NET result must accompany the application, If applicable. If the NET certificate Is not available a copy of the admit card and a print-out of the online results with the candidate's roll number circled should be sent. Candidates who have qualified JEST-2009 should mention their roll number, rank and percentile.

Stipend & Facilities:
Rs. 12,000/- per month, raised to Rs. 14,000/- per month after two years, subject to satisfactory review; a book grant of Rs. 5,000/- per year; and accommodation at a nominal charge. Students may also be partially supported for attending conferences abroad during theirtenure.

The Karnataka Private Medical & Dental Colleges Association, and Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association in their endeavour to offer an effective, fair and objective testing procedure to determine merit of students seeking admissions to the Member Institutions, have formed "Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka" COMEDK, COMEDK has been assigned the task of organising a Common Entrance Test for the academic year 2009-2010, for candidates aspiring to pursue Under Graduate courses Medical and Engineering Colleges in the State of Karnataka, in member institutions of the Consortium (Medical and Engineering Colleges).

 

In accordance with the consensual agreement between the Government of Karnataka and Karnataka Private Medical and Dental Colleges Association (KPMDCA) this year 2009-2010 for admission to BDS there will be no Common Entrance Test. However centralised counseling will be conducted based on rank list prepared. Rank list will be on the basis of aggregate marks of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) in the qualifying examination (2nd PUC/12th Standard or any other equivalent examination recognized by State / Central Government).

 

COMEDK entrance test & publication of test score and rank list will be followed by centralised counseling (Single window system). The details will be publicised in due course on our website, www.comedk.org.

COMEDK Under-Graduate Entrance Test-2009 (COMEDK UGET-2009)

 

COMEDK will conduct a separate entrance test for Medical and Engineering Under- Graduate courses called „COMEDK UGET-2009', for candidates seeking admission to Under Graduate courses in MBBS and B.E The entrance test is being conducted for merit determination for use by COMEDK Member Institutions only. The COMEDK entrance test is mandatory for candidates seeking admissions for the Under-Graduate courses in COMEDK Member Institutions. The COMEDK UGET-2009 test scores are valid only for admissions during the academic year 2009-2010.

 

Note: There is no Common Entrance Test for admission to BDS during the year 2009-2010.

MBBS:
General Merit Candidates should have passed the qualifying examination which is 2nd PUC or 10+2 higher secondary or equivalent examination, recognized by State / Central Government. The last two years of study shall comprise of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) with English as a compulsory subject and must have passed these subjects individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% of marks taken together in PCB. In addition, in the Common Entrance Test, must have secured not less than 50% marks in PCB.

SC, ST and OBC Candidates of Karnataka should have passed the qualifying examination which is 2nd PUC or 10+2 higher secondary or equivalent examination, recognized by State / Central Government. The last two years of study shall comprise of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) with English as a compulsory subject and must have passed these subjects individually and must have obtained a minimum of 40% of marks taken together in PCB. In addition, in the Common Entrance Test, must have secured not less than 40% marks in PCB. Candidates should have attained the age of 17 years as on31/12/2008.

 

BDS:
General Merit candidates should have passed qualifying exam which is 2nd PUC or 10+2 higher secondary or equivalent exam recognized by State / Central Government. The last two years study shall comprise of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) with English as a compulsory subject must have passed the subject and individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% of marks taken together in PCB. Candidates should have attained the age of 17 years as on 31/12/2008. There is no Common Entrance Test for admission during the year 2009-2010.
 
SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka a minimum of 40% of marks taken together in PCB. All other requirements are same as applicable for General Merit candidates.

 

B.E:
General Merit Candidates, the minimum qualification for admission is a pass in the 2nd PUC or 10+2 higher secondary or equivalent qualifying Examination recognized by State / Central Government with a minimum aggregate of 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM). Physics and Mathematics are compulsory subjects along with Chemistry or Biotechnology or Computer Science or Biology or Electronics as one of the optional subjects. English as one of the language of study is compulsory. There is no minimum mark fixed for entrance test. Hence all candidates who have taken the entrance test will find a place in the merit list as per their performance.

SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka the aggregate marks in PCM should be not less than 40% in the qualifying examination as mentioned above.

B. Arch
A candidate who has passed the qualifying examination (2nd PUC or 10+2 higher secondary or equivalent examination) with Mathematics as one of the subjects along with other subjects or a 10+3 Diploma recognized by Central / State Government and having obtained at least 50% marks in aggregate (45% marks in case of SC/ST and OBC Candidates of Karnataka). Further the candidate should have appeared for National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by Council of Architecture with a minimum score of 80 out of 200 for both general merit and category candidates.

COMEDK will not be conducting any Common Entrance Test for candidates seeking admission to B.Arch (Architecture Course) as per existing rules.

MBBS/BDS: Candidate must have obtained not less than 60% marks in English and a minimum of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in the qualifying examination and 50% in the Amrita Entrance Examination. (For SC/ST candidates, minimum marks required are 50% and 40% in the Amrita Entrance Examination). 
BAMS: Candidate must have obtained not less than 60% marks in English and a minimum of 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in the qualifying examination. For SC/ST candidates, minimum marks required in Plus-Two is 50%

Date of Birth: 
Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or before 31st December 1992, i.e. at least 17 years of age as on 31st December 2009, but have not crossed the age of 23 years as on that date, are eligible to apply. Date of birth as recorded in the 10th standard/ school leaving certificate will be taken as authentic.

The candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary Examination or its equivalent in ONE attempt. Exemptions may be considered only on medical grounds, and the decision of the Chairman - Admissions will be final and binding. The last two years of such study should include Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. Students studying in foreign countries following a syllabus other than any Indian syllabus should produce an Equivalence Certificate from The Association of Indian Universities, A.I.U.
