The written result of the Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Examination, 2014 has been declared by the Commission and the same is available on the Commission's website http://www.upsc.gov.in. It is informed that all the written qualified candidates are required to fill up and submit the Detailed Application Form (DAF) ONLINE followed by sending of ink signed copy of the printout of DAF along with their photographs and all relevant documents to the Commission. The DAF shall be available on the Commission's website from 25-09-2014 to 10-10-2014 till 11.59 P.M. Important Instructions for filling up and submitting the ONLINE DAF are also available on the website along with the Rules of Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Examination, 2014. The last date for the receipt of printed copy of DAF (ink signed) along with relevant documents is 15-10-2014. In the event of non-receipt of ink signed copy of DAF. the candidature will be cancelled without any further notice. The candidates are also required to bring a printed copy of the DAF duly signed (by the candidate) along with original documents and a photocopy each thereof at the time of interview. The Candidates must also check before hand their certificates in accordance with .the important instructions available on the website of the Commission with regard to the certificates that are required to be produced at the time of Interview. The Associateship is tenable in Research Institution/ Universities including non-profit R&D Institutions within India. The Associateships are awarded under a program sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.


ABOUT DBT
Government of India, Ministry of Science and Technology established the Department of Biotechnology in the year 1986 to give a new impetus to the development of the field of modern biology and biotechnology in India. In the last sixteen years of its existence the Department has promoted and accelerated the pace of development of biotechnology in the country. Through several R & D projects, demonstrations and creation of infrastructural facilities a clear visible impact of this field has been seen. The Department has made significant achievements in the growth and application of biotechnology in the broad areas of agriculture, health care, animal sciences, environment, and industry. The following are the mandates of the Department:

Identify and setup Centres of Excellence for R & D
Promote large scale use of Biotechnology
Integrated Programme for Human Resource Development
Establishment of Infrastructure

ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME
The Department of Biotechnology has introduced the aforesaid program. The Secretary, DBT requested Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore to co-ordinate and administer the implementation of the said programme. The Institute is successfully getting it done through the Society for Innovation and Development. The programme got started from December 2000 at a total project cost of Rs. 465.00 lakhs. The programme is intended only for Indian citizens. The purpose of the fellowship programme is to train scientists in frontier areas of research in Biotechnology at such institutions in India which are engaged in major biotechnological research activities. 

ELIGIBILITY
The applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Science, Engineering or M.D. or M.S. degree in any area of medicine with research interests in Biotechnology and Life Sciences and a good academic record. Those who have already submitted the Ph.D./M.D./M.S., thesis are also eligible to apply. The applicants should preferably be below the age of 40 years, and 45 years in case of women candidates. Persons already employed are also eligible to apply. However, their applications should be routed through their employers. 

PERIOD OF FELLOWSHIP
The fellowship is awarded for a period of two years. However, in exceptional cases, based on the progress of research, and overall importance of the project of the Fellows, the fellowship may be extended upto 5 years. The evaluation and recommendation for the extension of the fellowship will be made by the host institution as per their internal guidelines. 

The award of fellowships will normally start from 1st April or 1st October in a Calendar year. Accordingly, the selection of Fellows will be made twice a year. 

NUMBER OF FELLOWSHIPS
Up to 75 Fellowships would be awarded every year. Depending on the success and utility of the programme, the number of fellowships to be awarded per year would be revised. 

DETAILS OF THE AWARD
The Postdoctoral fellowship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 2 years. In exceptional cases, depending upon the progress of the research, the fellowship may be extended upto 5 years. Each fellow would be entitled to a stipend in the range of Rs. 22,000 - 24,000 per month and a research contingency grant of Rs. 50,000 per year, payable to the host institution. Candidates who are yet to be awarded the Ph.D./M.D./M.S degree, if selected, will be paid Rs. 18,000/- per month till the award of the degree. The fellows would also be entitled to HRA and other benefits as per the DST guidelines applicable to research fellowship/associateships. The fellowships cannot be availed at the same institution where the candidates have earned their Ph.D./M.D. degree. Candidates who are already in regular employment cannot avail the fellowship at their host institutions. However, there will be no restriction on them to receive the salary and other benefits while availing the fellowship in institutions other than their parent institutions. 

MODE OF APPLICATION
Candidates may submit their application on plain paper along with bio-data, list of publications (attach reprints of 2 important papers), copies of certificates (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D./M.D.), one page synopsis of Ph.D./M.D. thesis, 2 letters of recommendation (academic). The applicant is advised to propose his/her place of work, name of the supervisor, enclose one page synopsis of proposed research which must be compatible with the on-going research of the proposed supervisor, and his/her consent, for availing the fellowship. They should also enclose a declaration stating that if selected for the fellowship, he/she will complete the tenure of the fellowship. However, they may be allowed to relinquish the fellowship only if accepting permanent employment in India. Those who had applied previously need not apply. 

MODE OF SELECTION
The candidates will be selected based on their C.V. and performance in the interview. The interview will be held at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and candidates called for interview will be paid II class railway (non-AC)/bus fare by the shortest route from their home town. If the candidate accepts the fellowship, he/she must join the host Institution/University within a month's time.

7. One Year Post Graduate Programme in Health, Safety and Environment Management (PGP HSEM): Offered from Hyderabad Campus

Candidates having Master’s Degree with specialization in the parent discipline should apply in the prescribed form downloaded from Website www.caluniv.ac.in  along with an application fee of Rs. 100/- (by cash) through a challan obtainable from the Cash Counter, Alipur Campus. The filled up forms along with the requisite fee by C.U. Challan are to be submitted between 12.00 and 2.30 pm on all working days at the office of the Centre (4th Floor), Alipur Campus.

MHRD Commonwealth Scholarships 2015

Online applications are invited from Indian nationals, through MHRD’s website http://mhrd.gov.in/  for nominations, of the award of Commonwealth Scholarships in United Kingdom tenable from September / October 2015 for higher studies / research in the subjects mentioned below in the United Kingdom. Up to Sixty five (65) nominations are to be sent to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for final selection to be made by them. Out of these not more than twenty six (26) are for doctoral studies.

These scholarships will be awarded for studies leading to either:
(I) One Year Taught Master’s Courses or Equivalent Degree,
(Ii) Doctoral Degree of up to Three Years Duration

Each scholarship provides:
(A) Student concessionary or other approved airfare to the United Kingdom and return on expiry of the Scholarship (the cost of journey made before final award confirmation will not normally be reimbursed nor can fares be paid for a scholar’s dependents).

(B) Approved tuition and examination fees.

(C) A personal maintenance allowance at the rate of £977 per month (£1,208 per month for those studying at institutions in the London Metropolitan area)

(D) A grant towards the expenses of preparing thesis or dissertation, where applicable.

(E) An initial arrival allowance, incorporating in initial clothing grant for scholars from tropical countries.

(F) A grant for expenses for approved travel within the United Kingdom or overseas

(G) A contribution towards fieldwork costs for those Scholars undertaking doctoral studies for whom a case has been made for fieldwork outside the United Kingdom. This shall not normally exceed one economy class return airfare to the field work location.

(H) A paid mid-term fare to their home country for Scholars on three years doctoral awards. Scholars for whom fieldwork fares are provided to their home country shall not be entitled to a mid-term fare home, nor Scholars who have claimed (or intend to claim) spouse or child allowances for more than 12 months during their award.

(I) For Scholars selected by the Commission for awards exceeding 18 months, a spouse allowance of £ 220 per month is payable provided that the Scholar and spouse are residing together at the same address in the United Kingdom. It is not paid when spouse is also in receipt of an award. For Scholars accompanied by their spouse and children, a child allowance is payable at the rate of £138 per month for the first child and £108 per month for the second and third child under the age of 16, provided they are residing with their parents.
The Commission’s spouse and family allowances represent only a contribution towards the cost of family maintenance in the UK and Scholars should expect and be able to supplement these allowances to support family members who choose to come to the UK. Irrespective of the length of the award, a Scholar who is widowed, divorced or a lone parent will receive an allowance in respect of the first accompanying child and child allowances for the second and third accompanying children

Eligibility
The candidate should not be more than 40 years of age as on 10.10.2014 and fulfill the minimum qualifications as follows:
For Master’s Degree One should hold or able to produce the certificate of Bachelor’s Degree by October, 2015 in the subject field concerned (indicated above) securing 60% or above marks in Humanities and Social Science group and 65% or above marks in Engineering and Technology, Science and Agriculture Group.

**Candidates who wish to undertake postgraduate study in Business / Management Studies should have taken the Graduate Management Admission Test (Princeton Test) before applying for the Commonwealth Scholarship. Details about GMAT may be obtained from GMAT Educational Testing Services, Box 966 - R, Princeton, NJ 08541, U.S.A.

Candidates appearing for Scholarship in Economics and related subjects should be aware that a number of departments may require them, before admission, to pass the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) of which details may be obtained from Graduate Record Examination, Educational Testing Service, Box 955, Princeton, NJ 08541, U.S.A. An IELTS test will only be considered valid if taken after 1st October 2014 and before 6th March 2015.

For PhD Degree:
One should hold or able to produce the certificate of Master’s Degree by October 2015 in the concerned subject fields (indicated above) securing 60% or above marks in Humanities and Social Science group and 65% or above marks in the relevant subjects in Engineering and Technology, Science and Agriculture Group.

Applications have been invited by Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, from young College and University teachers / researchers from Humanities and Social Sciences / Journalist / NGO activist in the age group of 22 to 35 years for Winter School on "Life and Thought of Gandhi" to be held at Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla during 1-15 December 2014.

A batch of 25 participants will be selected from amongst the applicants. Those interested may send their bio-data (that should include their academic qualification, experience, research interest and area of specialization) along with the note of 200-250 words regarding how they perceive life and thought of Gandhi.

All expenses will be borne by the IIAS. Applications for the above programme should reach IIAS on before 30 September 2014. Those selected will be informed by 31st October 2014.

The National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD), Hyderabad has invited applications for admission to ‘Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development Management (PGDRDM) of  Session January 2015

The Entrance Test will be conducted on 09.11.2015 at the following centres: Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Dimapur, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, New Delhi, Patna, Pune and Thiruvanantapuram

Eligibility:
Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University. Students who are in the final year and expect to complete all the requirements of graduation before 1st January, 2015, may also apply.

Selection Process:
Selection of candidates will be made through a process of All-India Entrance Test which will test the verbal, quantitative and analytical competencies of the students including English Language. Group Discussion and Personal Interviews will be conducted for the short-listed candidates.

The applications sent by post will also be accepted through downloadable form available in above said website. The filled in online (Hard copy) / downloaded application form should be submitted along with the application fee of Rs. 200 (Rs. 100/- for SC/ST and PWD candidates) through an Account Payee Demand Draft drawn in favour of NIRD - PGDRDM, payable at Hyderabad. The filled in application form should be sent to the Coordinator (Admissions), Centre for Post Graduate Studies (CPGS), National Institute of Rural Development, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad-500030 (A.P), India, so as to reach on or before 25.10.2014. Last date for receipt of applications from the students of North Eastern States, Jammu & Kashmir, Andaman & Nicobar Island and Lakshadweep is also 31.10.2014.

MPhil Admission Notice 2014-2015

Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM), Kolkata, has invited applications for admission to MPhil in Management of Calcutta University for 2014-2015 session

Eligibility:
Master's degree in Management, Commerce, Social Welfare or equivalent.
Any candidate who has a Master's degree in Management, Commerce, Social Welfare or its equivalent from Calcutta University, with 55% marks in aggregate (SC/ST with 50% marks) or with 60% marks in aggregate of any other recognized University may apply for the MPhil Programme in Management

Admission:
Applications will be screened by the MPhil Board of Studies and shortlisted candidates will have to appear for an entrance examination. Candidates who have qualified in NET, SET or equivalent national level examination will be exempted from the Entrance Test. Candidates who qualify in or are exempted from the written test will be called for an interview.

Preference in allocation of seats will be given to teachers of management institutes and MBA students. Total seats per session will be 15.

How to apply:
Option - I
Download the DL Form, Admission Brochure and IISWBM / State Bank of India Power Jyoti A/c No. 32495656710 Challan and deposit Rs.600/‐ to any branch of State Bank of India against the challan and DL Form duly filled in.

Send the completed DL Form with column 12 duly entered by the State Bank of India along with the IISWBM’s copy of Power Jyoti A/c. No. 32495656710 Challan to the Institute, so as to reach the Institute by 8th October, 2014 at the latest.

A scanned copy of the completed DL Form along with a scanned copy of the receipted counter foil of the challan meant for IISWBM of S.B.I. Power Jyoti Account No. 32495656710 should also be sent by e‐mail (admissions@iiswbm.edu)  for record purpose.

Option - II
Collect from the reception counter of IISWBM Application Form and Admission Brochure against cash payment of Rs.1500/‐
Last date of issue and receipt of completed application form is 8th October, 2014

Post-Doctoral Fellowship 2015

Applications are invited for admission to 2nd phase of Institute Post-Doctoral Fellowship (IPDF) programme at IIT Guwahati in the Department of Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Design, Electronics & Electrical Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering and Physics.

Completed applications in all respect received by the Academic Affairs Section of IITG on or before October 15, 2014 (Wednesday) will only be considered for the Second phase of Interview. The candidate may send the soft copy first to meet the deadline, followed by the hard copy.

Eligibility:
PhD degree holders are eligible to apply within five years after completion of PhD Maximum Age is 35 years [relaxable by 5 years for women and reserved (SC / ST / PwD) category]

Selection Procedure:
The applications received by the Academic Section will be forwarded to the respective Departments for short listing of candidates to be called for interview. The concerned departments will send back the applications along with recommendations to the Academic Section.

The softcopy as well as hard copy of the interview call letters will be sent to the shortlisted candidates by the Academic Section.

Candidates called for interview are eligible for reimbursement of to and fro AC II tier railway fare by the shortest route.

For a selected candidate who had obtained his/her PhD from IIT Guwahati, the mentor faculty member shall be other than the candidate’s PhD Supervisor (s).

Call for INSA Young Scientists Medal 2015

Applications have been invited by Indian National Science Academy, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi-110002 for award of INSA Medal for Young Scientists for the year 2015.
Award is to honour talented young Indian scientists in recognition of their outstanding contributions in any branch of science or technology coming within the purview of the Academy.

Age Limit:
Any citizen of India, who has not attained the age of 35 years on December 31, of the year preceding the year of award, shall be eligible for the award. Only those born on or after 1 January 1980 are eligible for consideration in the year 2015.

Cash Prize and Research Grant:
Each awardee will be presented a Medal, a certificate, and cash prize of Rs. 25,000/-.  In addition, the recipient may be considered for research support with seed money.

The awardee within five years of receipt of award will be considered for a visit abroad with full support for presenting research work at conferences, and/or participating in collaborative / training research projects wherever possible.

As part of their career development, those young scientists who have been unable to obtain suitable placement, may be considered for an interim Fellowship (amount depending on the qualification and research experience) and contingency of Rs 25,000/- per year. To avail this Fellowship, the awardee should be attached to some research / academic institution.  The tenure of the Fellowship will be for a maximum period of three years.

Nomination Procedure:
Candidates may be nominated by Fellows of the Indian National Science Academy, previous recipients of INSA Medal for Young Scientists, national scientific societies, university faculties, post-graduate departments or research institutions.

A nomination will remain valid for consideration for 3 years or the eligibility age whichever expires earlier. However, a fresh nomination (only once) can be made, if the nominee has not yet crossed the age bar. A nomination shall be made in the prescribed format along with all supporting documents. Nominations, one hard copy and a soft copy in MS-Word only (in a CD / through e-mail at ytinsa@gmail.com ), must reach the Executive Director, Indian National Science Academy, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi-110002 latest by October 31, 2014.
