The University of Calicut launches through its School of distance Education Four Semester MBA Programme in 2012, designed in keeping with the needs of the ever changing corporate and business world in India and abroad.  It envisages equal opportunity of admission to people from all over the country and abroad.

The  School  of  Distance  Education  intends  to  enroll  approximately  1000  students for  the programme annually.  The candidates will be admitted from Kerala and Gulf region.  Those who belong to  Kerala shall be attached to any of the 5 University  MBA centres, ie SMS Thrissur,  SMS  Palakkad,  SMS  Kozhikode,  SMS  Kuttipuram,  SMS  Vadakara  and  at  the Department of Commerce & Management Studies, University of Calicut, in addition to a centre at  Thiruvananthapuram  for  academic  administration,  contact  classes,  project  work,  library facilities, etc.  Depending on the number of enrolment, the University reserves the right to attach the candidates opting for different centres at any of the said centres.
 All overseas candidates shall be attached to any of the overseas counseling centres of the School of Distance Education in Kuwait, Sharjah or Rasal-Khaima.

The maximum number of students attached to the centres will be 80 inside Kerala and 50 outside Kerala and abroad.  If more number of students than the maximum fixed opt for a particular centre, attachment will be made on the basis of merit.

Eligibility for admission
Any  student  who  has  passed  any  degree  of  the  University  of  Calicut  (including  degree programmes of SDE, University of Calicut) or  that of any other University or institute or institution recognized by the UGC or AICTE. Programmes of other Universities or institutions shall be in 10+ 2+ 3 pattern (or 10+ 2   + 4) under regular stream. In all the cases, the student should  have  passed  the  bachelor  degree  examination  with  not  less  than  50  %  marks  in aggregate including the marks of languages if any (without approximation, that is, 49.9999 % is not eligible since it is less than 50%), is eligible for admission. However, SC/ST, OBC, and other eligible communities shall be given relaxation as per University rules. 

Admission Procedure
The admission to the programme shall be made on the basis of an Entrance Examination called CUMAT(SDE)  conducted  by  the  University.  The  rank  score  shall  be  based  on  Entrance Examination carrying 120 marks. 
Questions will be to test the candidate’s ability in the following areas:  English Language, test of reasoning, numerical ability and general awareness. 
A rank list shall be prepared by the University based on the Entrance score and a counseling session shall be conducted for admission to the MBA Programme.

Medium of Instruction and examination
The medium of instruction and examination shall be English.

The Entrance Exam fee is 1000 for resident candidates and USD 100 for overseas candidates ( 500/- for SC / ST candidates if attested copy of Community Certificate is submitted). The Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology was established in M G University in 2009. An expert committee has formulated the MS and M.Phil courses and started the first batch in 2010-11. The first batch of the centre has successfully completed and the M.Phil students have been sent to major national institutions such as Rajiv Gandhi Centre  for Biotechnology (Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala), and Central Electrochemical Research Institute (Karaikudi, Chennai) to carry out their Project work. Also the M S students have been sent to the major International Universities in Japan, Korea, Poland and Germany. The centre has also got the accreditation and financial assistance from UGC (Under 5- year Innovative Programme Scheme) to conduct the MS course.  

The Centre for Nanosciene and Nanotechnology has received about 16 crores of financial assistance for various projects from DST – Nanomission Project, UGC, DBT, ICMR and KSCSTE. The main International collaborators with this centre include General Cables, USA and Czech Company, Germany and the national collaborators include Alathur Pharmaceuticals Manufacturer Association, Chennai and Apollo Tyres, Kerala.
This centre has also achieved a patent with Apollo Tyres for the inner tubes and inner liners of the tyres. 

The centre is well equipped with various sophisticated instruments for the synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials which have been procured through various projects of different funding agencies. Some of those include High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope, X-Ray Diffractometer, Scanning Probe Microscope, Differential Scanning Calorimeter, Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer, Thermal Mechanical Analyzer, Gas Permeability Tester, Lyophilizer, Electrospinning Unit, High Temperature Furnaces, Ultrasonic Processor, Spin Coater etc.

The purpose of the scheme is to identify talented students and nurture their talent. The scheme, covers areas like Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law. It honours and helps talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship. For the courses in Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and Commerce, this assistance is provided up to Ph.D. level. For professional courses like Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law this assistance is given only up to Post Graduation.

Eligibility: All students of Class X studying in recognized schools are eligible to appear for the Stage -I examination, conducted by the States/UTs, in which the schools are located. There will be no domicile restriction.

Scholarships: On the basis of the National Talent Search Examination, 1000 scholarships will be awarded. The amount of scholarship will be Rs.500/- per month.

Reservation: 15% scholarships will be reserved for students belonging to the SC category, 7.5% scholarships for students belonging to the ST category and 3% for Physically Challenged Group of Students.

Selection: The pattern of written examination for Class X will be as follows:
+Stage I examination at the State/UT level will comprise of two parts, namely (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT) and (b) Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

For admission to M.Tech.  (CAD-CAM),  candidates must have B.Tech./B.E.  in Mechanical Engineering/Automobile Engineering/Chemical Engineering/Chemical Technology/Civil Engineering or allied branches with at least 60% marks (for General/OBC candidates),  and 55% marks (for SC/ST candidates).

For admission to M.Tech. (Automation  &  Robotics),  candidates must have B.Tech./B.E.  in Mechanical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Electronics & Communication Engineering/Computer Science  &  Engineering or allied branches with at least 60%  marks for General/OBC candidates),  and 55%  marks (for SC/ST candidates).

The  equivalence of any degree for admission to any programme  shall be decided by the University.  The  eligibility criteria given above are minimum and mere possessing the same does not qualify  a candidate  for admission. University may prescribe any other requirements over and above these conditions.

(i) The candidate has to fill an application form On-line with all relevant details.
(ii) After filling the application form On-line candidate has to take printout of application form and payment challan.

3. Age: The upper age limit for General candidates shall be 45 years and that for Service candidates will be 49 years as on the date of notification for inviting application. (i.e.08.08.2012) 

4. Selection and Entrance Examination : All Candidates including Service Quota candidates shall have to qualify the Entrance Examination to be conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala at Thiruvananthapuram on 09.09.2012(Sunday).The Entrance examination will be of 3 hours duration with 200 Multiple Choice Questions. General merit candidates and service candidates have to score 40% marks in the Entrance Examination. In case of candidates belonging to SC/ST and SEBC the required minimum marks is 35% in the Entrance Examination.  

5. Application forms:  Prospectus and Online Application form will be available from  08.08.2012 (Wednesday) onwards in the website The Online Application procedure is common for General and Service candidates. Candidates seeking admission to this course can apply in the online application form provided in the website of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations and then remit the required fees at any  State Bank of Travancore Branch using the Bank Chalan available with the print out .Candidates residing outside Kerala State can remit the application fee by way of Demand Draft drawn in favour of the  Commissioner for Entrance Examinations,  payable at Thiruvananthapuram.  Application fee is Rs.1000/-  for General/Service candidates and Rs.500/- for SC/ST candidates.
