The Competitive Entrance Examination for admission to the MBBS Course at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi will be conducted by the Institute on 1st June, 2011 (Wednesday) from 10 am to 1.30 noon at Ahmedabad (Centre Code-01), Bangaluru (02), Chandigarh (03), Chennai (04), Delhi (05), Guwahati (06), Hyderabad (07), Jammu (08), Kolkata (09), Lucknow (10) and Mumbai (11). 

The Competitive Entrance Examination of 3½ hours duration and will have one paper consisting of 200 objective type (multiple choice and reason-assertion type) questions from Physics (60 questions), Chemistry (60), Biology (Botany and Zoology-60) and General Knowledge (20). Question paper will be provided either in English or in Hindi according to the choice of candidates to be recorded while applying. This choice cannot be changed later at any stage.

Each correct response will get 1 mark while each incorrect response will result in a loss of one-third mark. No credit will be given for the questions not answered. More than one response will be treated as wrong answer and negatively marked.

The general standard of the Entrance Examination will be that of 12th class under the 10+2 Scheme/Intermediate Science. No syllabus for the examination has been prescribed by the Institute.

Those belonging to General category have to score a minimum of 50% marks in the Entrance examination while those belonging to OBC category will be required to score 45% marks. SC/ST candidates should score at least 40% marks in the MBBS Entrance Examination. OPH candidates will be required to score a minimum of 50% marks in case of General Category candidates, 45% for OBC & 40% for SC/ST candidates in the Entrance Examination. Based on the result of the Competitive Entrance Examination, the following merit lists will be prepared (a) Common Merit list (b) Scheduled Caste candidates list (c) Scheduled Tribe candidates list (d) Other Backward Classes candidates list. Thirty seven candidates from the common merit list, eleven candidates from the merit list of Scheduled Caste category and five candidates from the merit list of Scheduled Tribe and nineteen candidates from the merit list of Other Backward Classes category will be admitted including 3% reservation for orthopaedic physically handicapped on horizontal basis in the seats available. The reservation will be 7 ½ % for ST, 15% for SC and 27% for OBC category.

In case eleven candidates from the Scheduled Caste or five candidates from the Scheduled Tribe categories and nineteen candidates belonging to OBC are not available, then the number of candidates selected on the basis of merit for general seats shall be correspondingly increased so that the total number of candidates selected for the M.B.B.S. course is 72. The remaining candidates will be kept on the waiting list in order of merit.

Eligibility: Indian Nationals should have attained or should attain the age of 17 years as on the 31st December, 2011. Those born on or after 2nd January, 1995 are not eligible to apply. Applicant should have passed the 12th Class under the 10+2 Scheme/Senior School Certificate Examination or Intermediate Science (I.Sc.) or an equivalent examination of a recognised University/Board of any Indian State with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and should have obtained a minimum of 60% marks in the case of General & OBC and 50% in case of SC/ST candidates in aggregate in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

All those who have appeared or are appearing at the qualifying examination with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as main subject and expect to pass the examination with required percentage of marks are also eligible to apply and appear in the Competitive Entrance Examination. However, their candidature will be considered only if they provide documentary evidence of having passed the qualifying examination with the required subjects and percentage of marks on or before the date stipulated in the Prospectus.

Foreign Nationals nominated by the Government of India are required to have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in the subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in their Intermediate Science or an equivalent examination to be eligible for admission to the M.B.B.S. Course. Foreign candidates are not required to appear at the Competitive Entrance Examination.

The list of candidates, who qualify for admission would be declared by 15th July, 2011. Roll numbers of candidates who qualify for admission will be displayed on notice board of Examination Section, AIIMS and will also be published in leading newspapers and intimation to that effect will also be sent to them by the Institute under Speed Post/Registered Post. The result will also be available on AIIMS website www.aiims.ac.in  and www.aiims.edu. The Institute will not intimate the individual unsuccessful candidates regarding the result of Entrance Test. However, the mark of individual candidate will be available on AIIMS website on completion of the admission process. Requests for re-evaluation/re-checking of answer sheet will not be entertained under any circumstances.

The selected candidates will have to undergo medical examination by a Medical Board set up by the Institute, consisting of Faculty Members of the Institute. If, in the assessment of the Medical Board, a candidate is found medically unfit to be admitted to the course, then he/she will be rejected and not admitted and the decision of the Board shall be final. In that case, in his/her place next candidate in order of merit will be admitted.

Application: Indian Nationals may apply in the prescribed format available online and offline with the Prospectus.

Application Fee for those applying online is Rs.1000/- (General/OBC) and Rs.800/0 (SC/ST) and Transaction Charges as applicable. Payment can be made through Computer generated Challan Form in any branch of State Bank of India. The candidates are required to bring AIIMS copy of Challan Form at the time of Entrance Examination on 1.6.2011 along with their Admit Card and handover the same to the Invigilator, failing which they will not be allowed to enter.

Offline application can be obtained from Examination Section, AIIMS, Ansari Nagar, New Delhi - 110 608 only, against a Demand Draft for Rs. Rs.1000/- for General/OBC Category and Rs.800/- for SC/ST Category, if by Hand. It can be obtained for Rs.1050/- General/OBC Category and Rs.850/- (SC/ST Category) if by Post.  The cost of Application Form includes the fee for entrance examination.

Online Registration can be made at http://www.aiimsexams.org/ as per the Instructions given there and then deposit the prescribed fee in the designate Bank through a Challan that would be generated. The candidates are required to bring AIIMS copy of Challan Form at the time of Entrance Examination on 1.6.2011 along with their Admit Card and handover the same to the Invigilator, failing which they will not be allowed to enter.

Offline Application: No document (copies of certificates, mark-sheets etc.) is required to be attached with the application. Duly filled in Offline Application Form should reach Examination Section, AIIMS, Ansari Nagar, New Delhi - 110 608 on or before 5 pm on 15th March, 2011.

Acknowledgement with regard to successful Online Registration will be forwarded to the email ID of applicants. In case of Offline Applicants, the Form numbers of all the Offline Application Forms received will be available on AIIMS website www.aiims.ac.in  and www.aiims.edu  as well as www.aiimsexams.org  after 18th April, 2011. Candidates are advised to check position regarding acknowledgement of their Online Registration/status of Offline Application Form on the website. If a candidate's Registration number/Application number is not available on the website, he/she should immediately write to the Asstt. Controller of Examinations, AIIMS, New Delhi - 110 608 along with full particulars/Proof of delivery of the Offline Application Form in AIIMS.

Those recommended for admission on the basis of results of the Entrance Examination, will be required to submit attested copies of certificates/mark-sheets in support of their claims of educational qualifications, marks, category, date of birth etc. to Asstt. Controller of Examinations, AIIMS by hand or by Speed/Regd. Post within 7 days from the date of declaration of result of the Entrance Examination.

Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has invited applications for the 'Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE)', a component of the 'Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)' being implemented by the Department.

Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) is a Programme launched by the Government of India and being implemented by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), to strengthen the National Science and Technology base. The INSPIRE Programme includes three components namely Scheme for Early Attraction of Talents for Science (SEATS), Scholarships for Higher Education (SHE) and Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC).

The Scheme SHE is focused on attraction of talent to study of Natural/Basic Sciences at the Bachelor and Master's level. SHE is currently limited to support for educational programmes at B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons), M.Sc. and Integrated Master's level courses in Sciences, leading to MSc in any branch of Natural and Basic Sciences namely Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences and Life Sciences.

A total of 10,000 scholarships are available annually under SHE starting April 2008. The scholarships are limited to those studying courses in Natural/Basic Sciences (B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons), Integrated M.Sc.) in any one of the recognized institutions in India.
 
Eligibility criterion for the scholarships are
(i) performance in Board examinations within the cut-off threshold (of top 1%) for each State or Central Board examination at the class X and class XII level and/or
(ii) performance in any of the specified competitive examinations within stipulated cut off ranks. The eligible applicant must be already enrolled into Degree level education in Natural/Basic Sciences in any of the recognized institutions in India.

(i) Based on Performance in Board Examinations: Applicant should have obtained aggregate marks in the top 1% in the Board Examination at both class X and XII levels. For example, those applying for INSPIRE Scholarship 2008 should have secured marks within the top 1% in Class X in 2006 and Class XII in 2008 in the respective Board Examinations and should have joined a Degree course leading to B.Sc. or B.Sc. (Hons) or Integrated M.Sc. in Natural/Basic Sciences in any institution in India in the year 2008 and returned to study of second year in the academic year 2009-10. Cut-off marks for various board examinations conducted in the years 2006, 2007 and 2008 for class X and corresponding year of 2008, 2009 and 2010 for class XII are listed in Table 1. Candidate securing top 1% marks only in Class XII Board Examination can also submit the application form.

(ii) Based on Performance in Competitive Examinations (specified in Table 2): Performance within the top 10,000 ranks in Joint Entrance Examination of IIT, AIEEE (Engineering) and CBSE Medical and joining Degree level courses in Natural/Basic Sciences in any recognized Indian institution. The candidate may apply with a valid document of these examinations. The scheme in its current format does not include courses in Engineering, Medicine, Technology and other Professional courses.

(iii) Based on Performance in Competitive Examinations (specified in Table 3): Clearance of competitive examinations conducted by institutions listed in Table 3 and all candidates securing admissions and joining Integrated M.Sc/ MS courses in Natural/Basic Sciences conducted by Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Indian Institutes of Technology, Department of Atomic Energy – Centre for Basic Science (DAE-CBS) and University from the academic years 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 are eligible. Institutional coverage is being done for this category. Students in this category need not apply.

Value and Type of Support: Eligible candidates will receive annually scholarship @ total value Rs.80,000/- per candidate. The cash value payable to the SHE scholarship holder is Rs.60,000 per annum. All the SHE scholars are to undertake summer time attachment to an active researcher in recognized research centers in the country. A summer time attachment fee of Rs.20,000/- will be paid to the mentoring institution for undertaking summer time project.

Duration of the Support: Selected candidates will be supported for a maximum period of five years starting from 1st year course in B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons) and Integrated course leading to M.S or M.Sc or the completion of the course, whichever is earlier. Continuation of the scholarship for the selected candidates for subsequent years is based on satisfactory performance of the examinations conducted and certified by the institution imparting education.

Format for Application: Application may be submitted in the prescribed format available at www. inspire-dst.gov.in, written preferably in English & Hindi only along with attested copy of (i) Mark sheets of Class X and Class XII and (ii) Endorsement Certificate from Principal of the College/ Director or Registrar of the Institute or University where the applicant is presently enrolled.

The Banaras Hindu University will hold the PMT-2011 Screening, the first stage of the All India Competitive Written Test for admission to MBBS course and the All India Competitive Written Test for admission to BDS, BAMS and B Pharm Courses of the University will be held from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm on 8th May, 2011 (Sunday) at Varanasi, Kolkata, Delhi and Hyderabad.

The PMT-2011 Screening will be the basis for selection of students to take the PMT-2011 Main Examination, the second stage of the All India Competitive Written Test for admission to MBBS course at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, to be held on 12th June, 2011 (Sunday) at Varanasi.

The PMT-2011 Screening will be the basis for preparation of merit list for admission to the BDS and BAMS courses offered at the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU and B Pharm Course at the Institute of Technology, BHU, Varanasi.

Syllabus: The standard of PMT will be broadly based on the 10+2 course or equivalent as laid down by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

Pattern of PMT Screening: The PMT 2011 Screening will have a single question paper containing 200 objective type questions, each carrying 2 marks. There will be 50 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology with a maximum of 100 marks for each subject. Marks will be deducted for incorrect answers. One mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. 

Pattern of PMT Main: The PMT Main also will have one question paper with 200 objective type questions from Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. The Question paper will have two sections. Section A will have 100 questions having 25 questions from each subject (Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology). Against each questions, four responses will be given of which only one will be correct. Section B will have 100 questions with 25 from each of the four subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology). The questions will be of the multiple response type. Out of four options given against each question, more than one shall be correct. Each correct answer in PMT Main will carry 2 marks. One mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

Minimum Marks for PMT Screening and Main: Candidates belonging to the General category have to score a minimum of 50% marks while those belonging to the General Physically Challenged (PC) category have to score a minimum of 45% marks to qualify in the PMT Screening. Candidates belonging to the OBC (Non-Creamy layer) and SC/ST and their respective PC Category candidates have to score 40% marks to qualify.

Selection for MBBS: From the list of PMT Screening, first 4200 candidates will be called (as per Government of India Reservation policy) for appearing in the PMT Main Examination for MBBS. For MBBS, candidates will be selected based on their merit in PMT-2011 Main Test. 

Selection for BDS/BAMS: For BDS and BAMS Courses, candidates will be selected on the basis of their merit in PMT 2011 Screening Test.

Selection for B Pharm: Selection to the B Pharm course will be based on the separate list prepared for B.Pharm course, based on the merit in the PMT Screening Test.

Eligibility: Applicant should be an Indian National. Applicant should have passed the Intermediate Science or Pre-Medical Course/12th year of the 10+2 examination or equivalent examination of a recognized Indian University/ Board/Council with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

For MBBS/BDS/BAMS applicant should have scored a minimum of 50% marks for General and 45% for General-PC candidates and 40% marks for OBC (Non Creamy layer)/SC/ST and respective PC candidates in the subjects specified at the qualifying examination (English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology). For B.Pharm, applicant should have scored a minimum of 60% marks for General / OBC and respective PC candidates and 55% marks for SC/ST and respective PC candidates in the subjects specified at the qualifying examination. Candidates appearing in qualifying examination may also apply, subject to their qualifying by 30th June, 2011.

Applicant must complete the age of 17 years but should not cross the age of 25 years as on 31st December 2011. Only those candidates whose date of birth falls between 1st January 1987 and 1st January 1995 (both dates inclusive) are eligible to apply.

Admit Card: Provisional Admit Card for PMT 2011 Screening would be sent by Speed/Registered Post to the candidates. If candidates do not receive the admit card by 2nd May, 2011, they may contact the Office of the Director, Institute of Medical Sciences (PMT Cell), BHU, varanasi-221005 in person or on Phone numbers 0542-6703233; 0542-2369501 between 10 am and 5 pm. Such candidates will be informed of their Roll Number and Centre. Duplicate Admit Cards can be collected by them at the following Camp Offices on 7.5.2011 between 10 am and 3 pm. Foreign Nationals are not required to appear in the PMT examination for MBBS/BAMS courses. They may seek admission through the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi, as per the rules laid down for the purpose and their nomination must reach by Friday, the 15.07.2011.

Seats: There are 84 seats for MBBS of which 42 are under General category. There are 23 seats reserved for OBC (Non Creamy Layer), 13 seats for SC and 6 seats for ST for MBBS.
