Jain Vishva Bharati Institute is a Institute of higher learning and research blended with spirituality, which came into existence in 1991. The Understanding Jainism Programme (UJP) of the JVBI emphasizes Jain Philosophy, Ethics, Non-violence, Meditation, Art & Architecture and life-style in India. It is interdisciplinary in nature, with participating faculty of the Humanities, Social Sciences and Linguistics.

Objectives :
i. To understand the concept and ideas of Jainism.
ii. To develop understanding and attitude of nonviolence.
iii. To familiarize the participants with the philosophy of creative non-violence
in India.
iv. To impart training of Preksha Meditation for emotionally balanced life-style.
v. To establish the importance and relevance of amity for the survival of
living being.

Course Credits
The programme has Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses of 3/4 week duration. The number of credits
a student can take in this programme depends on the agreements with individual students or agreement
reached with the Institute or participating institution.

For PG Student
Studies will be carried out on the basis of sacred Jain texts of Swetambar & Digambar tradition. Texts like Acaranga, Sutrakritanga, Bhagvati, Nandi, Dasvaikalika, Tattvartha Sutra, Samayasar, Gommatsar etc.
Study text could vary depending on the need.

Indian Classical Language Orientation Programme
Keeping in view the interest of international students in the ancient and classical languages of India, a
special programme of orientation in Sanskrit, Prakrit and Hindi will be organized during the programme.
Those who will participate shall be awarded one credit. The fee of the programme will be $50 each.
Prakrit
Prakrit capsule course will be dealt broadly with the phonology and morphology. It will cover both the traditional and linguistic pattern of teaching. To understand Prakrit, the contemporary classical language Sanskrit will be compared with. Though phonology and morphology students will learn the development of ancient Indian language through out the ages beginning from the sound system with vowels and consonants, behavior of sounds etc. and parts of speech, in the morphology and construction of sentences etc. will be in the curriculum.

Sanskrit  
An introductory course on basics of Sanskrit will also be the part of programme for willing candidates consisting of vowel, pronunciation, verbs, introduction to nouns, gender, alphabetical order, halanta and conjunct consonants, special symbols, dictionary practice and exercise.

Hindi
Hindi is one of the major spoken languages in India and has a rich literature of over one thousand years and can be compared with any other developed language and literature of the world. To understand Hindi, it is necessary to have preliminary acquaintance with the structure of the language and linguistics future. This programme consists: language element, elementary linguistics and salient features of Devanagri scripts, Hindi and its subordinate languages and exercise of spoken Hindi.

The Institute is located in Ladnun, a small township in the Nagaur District of Rajasthan (India),  representing the ancient Indian Gurukul tradition. Ladnun is 380 Kms. west of Delhi, the Capital city of India, and 215 Kms. North West of Jaipur, which is known as the Pink City and the Capital of the State of Rajasthan. Candidates applying through ICCR should get in touch with the respective Indian Embassies only. Candidates are to submit credentials regarding his / her knowledge of English Language.

APPEARED GRADUATES
Appeared Graduates may also apply. Such candidates opting for any of the Diploma Course or for Certificate Course in Screenplay Writing must submit graduation certificate / mark-sheet at the time of Orientation. Those opting for One Year Certificate Course in Television must submit the same at time of interview. In the event of not submitting the said certificate/ mark-sheet as per above, the candidate will not be allowed to participate for further admission process.

Circular For Admission to Post B.Sc. Four Semester PG Diploma in Jute Technology and Management

Department of Jute and Fibre Technology, Institute of Jute Technology, Calcutta University, announces commencement of the Post B.Sc. Four Semester PG Diploma in Jute Technology and Management for sustainable HRD for Jute Sector to be conducted in this department for Sponsored and General (Non-sponsored) Candidates.

1. About the Course : This Post B.Sc. Four Semester PG Diploma in Jute Technology and Management is the course approved by Calcutta University and AICTE mainly designed to suit the Diploma level technical manpower requirement as Technical supervisors for Jute industry and related organizations.

2. Intake:
Total Seats: 60 (50% for sponsored and 50% for non-sponsored candidates.). However, if seats for sponsored candidates remain vacant, those will filled up by non-sponsored candidates. Reservations for SC/ST/PH candidates are as per University norms / W.B. Govt. rule. 5% seats are reserved for Tution fee waiver (TFW) candidate.

3. Eligibility for Admission:
Pass in three years B. Sc. Examination with Physics and Chemistry as two compulsory
papers (along with other possible combination, such as, Mathematics/Statistics/Computer, etc.) of the University of Calcutta or any other University, recognized by UGC.

4. Admission Procedure :
A Common Admission Test for PGDJTM for all categories of candidates will be conducted by this Department. The admission test will comprise one paper of 100 marks with four subgroups, viz. (i) General knowledge and English, 25 marks (ii) Mathematical aptitude, 25 marks (iii) Physics , 25 marks and (iv) Chemistry, 25 marks.
In this year , the admission test will be held on Sunday, 20th January , 2012 at 12 AM at the premises of Department of Jute and Fibre Technology , Institute of Jute Technology , Calcutta University (35, Ballygunge Circular Road, Kolkata-700019) followed by interview on the same day. All candidates applied for the said course are to appear for the Admission Test.

5. Course Fee: For both sponsored and non-sponsored candidates: Rs. 5,000/- per semester i.e. Rs. 10000 per year ( including lab fee , library fee etc for each semester) plus miscellaneous other fees as applicable for all categories of candidates ( Students activities fee – Rs. 400 in 1st semester only ; Identity card fee – Rs. 30 in 1st semester only. Examination fee per semester is as applicable and to be
decided by the Calcutta University.

6. Sponsorship: Jute Mill/Jute Organization may sponsor candidates for the Post B.Sc.
Four Semester PG Diploma in Jute Technology and Management course. For the sponsored candidates, original letter of sponsorship from the Unit Head of the Sponsoring Organization/Unit/Mill (Director/ President/General Manager/Mill Manager/ Chief Executive/Executive Director with full name and office seal) mentioning the total
experience, if any, is to be produced to this office during submission of application form.
