Time PhD Programme (Engineering) – 2013 in the following streams
1. Civil Engineering
2. Mechanical Engineering
3. Electrical & Electronics Engineering
4. Chemical Engineering

(1) ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
For admission to the Ph.D. programme in a related subject, applicants fulfilling the
following criteria shall be treated as eligible
(a) Candidates having Post Graduate Degree with specialization in fields relevant to the aforementioned streams with at least 60% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average(GPA) of this University or an equivalent degree recognized by University of Calicut. For SC/ST category pass in the qualifying examination is sufficient.
(b)Regular teachers of approved Government / Aided colleges/ self-financing colleges affiliated to the Universities in Kerala, Teachers of University Departments, candidates appointed as research fellows or research assistants selected by UGC/CSIR in the research projects run in the university departments / government / aided colleges / central / state and other approved research institutes and scientist working in the research institutes satisfying the eligibility criteria as stated are eligible to apply for part time registration for research. In addition, those who have been working in the state/central government departments, government public undertaking, and boards with not less than 5 years of experience can apply for part time research through any of the recognized research centres, provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria. All such candidates should submit No Objection Certificate from the Employer at the time of admission.

(2) ELIGIBILITY TEST
(a) An Eligibility Test for the Full time /Part-Time PhD (Engineering) will be conducted as per the following schedule. The syllabus for this test will be available in the university web site (universityofcalicut.info)
Test Centre: Govt. Engineering. College, Thrissur.
Date of Eligibility Test: 23th February 2013 (Saturday), 9.30 AM-12.30 PM
Pattern of Question paper: Maximum Mark 100
Part A: 50 marks (25 Objective Type Questions of two marks each with no negative mark)
Part B: 40 marks (Descriptive Type questions, 8 out of 16 questions of 5 mark each)
Part C: 10 marks (Descriptive type with1 out of three question on recent research topics in the respective discipline)
Candidates who secure a minimum of 50% marks in the eligibility test are eligible for admission to the PhD (Engineering). Programme. SC/ST candidates require only
35% marks.
(b) Regular Teachers of the Govt. and Aided Engineering Colleges with more than 7 years of experience and also for candidates selected under QIP scheme are exempted from

Eligibility test. But they should submit the application form with prescribed application fee.

3. FEE
Application fee is Rs.50 (Rs.20 for Sc/ST)and Eligibility test fee is Rs. 500 (Rs.200 for Sc/ST)
The application fee and eligibility test fee shall be remitted to the University Fund Fee can be remitted in “Janasevana Kendra” or selected branches of the SBT or Treasuries or directly in the Cash Counters in Tagore Nikethan and University Information Centres, towards Calicut University Fund

The list of eligible candidates will be published by the University Qualifying the eligibility test is not a matter of right to get admitted to the Ph.D. programme. It will be decided based on the availability of vacan cy and willingness and capability of the Guide to supervise the student in the area the student intended to work.

(4) REGISTRATION
1. The qualified candidates (candidates who got passed the eligibility test or those who got exemption from eligibility test) may contact the teaching/research department/centre where he/she prefers to pursue the PhD Programme and seek the availability and willingness of the research guide who is competent in the area in which he/she is willing to do research and work under him/her to the develop research proposal. Such candidates will be called for an interview before a committee.
2. On the basis of interview, the allotment of the Research Guide for a selected candidate shall be decided by the Research centre.

(5) PROCEDURE
The prescribed application form (The application form available at www.universityofcalicut.info/PhD/PhDEnggformJan22.pdf)  for the Ph.D (Engineering) along with original chalan receipt of fee remitted should reach the Principal, Govt. Engineering College, Thrissur, (P.O.) Engineering College, Thrissur (Dist.), Kerala, PIN 680 009 on or before 8th February, 2013. The envelope containing the application should be super scribed with: “Application for PhD Programme (Engineering) The Candidates seeking admission under exempted category need to send the filled application form along with application fee of Rs. 50/-. .

WHO CAN APPLY
Masters’ degree (M.Sc/M.Tech/M.Pharm.) with 60% (or equivalent in CGPA) in any branch of life sciences / Chemical sciences / physical sciences / biotechnology / mathematics / statistics / computer science or allied subjects with special interest in biology.B.Tech (in biological sciences or other branches with special interest in biology) / B.Pharm / BBS candidates with 60% (or equivalent in CGPA) may also apply.

Fellowship: M.Sc. candidates should also hold CSIR-UGC (JRF) /DBT (JRF) /ICMR-JRF/DST-INSPIRE (fellowship certificate should be valid as on July 8, 2013, 2013 in all the cases.  Fellowship conditions should allow them to work in CSIR laboratories and under CSIR projects. B.Tech./B Pharm. candidates should have valid GATE score of 95 percentile or above. Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for a written test followed by an interview (see below).
Upper age limit is 28 years as on February 28, 2013 (closing date) which is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC/physically handicapped persons as well as woman candidates as per Govt. of India rules in this regard.

HOW TO APPLY
Links to application form will be available from 1st February 2013-28th February 2013 at www.igib.res.in. Instructions for filling in the application form and last date of application will be given therein. Candidates will have to submit a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 500/- (Rs. 250/- for SC/ST candidates). The instructions for the payment will be available on the website.


SELECTION PROCEDURE
Candidates fulfilling minimum requirements will be invited through email to appear for a written aptitude test of two hour duration on March 17, 2013 at any of the ten test centers at Delhi, Pune, Kolkata , Chennai, Chandigarh, Trivandrum, Bhopal, Baroda, Hyderabad and Guwahati. The test will be aimed at evaluating abilities to comprehend, analyze and reason along with the aptitude of the candidate in biological sciences. The result of the written test will be declared on IGIB website on or before March 22, 2013.

Successful candidates will have to appear for interviews and discussion at IGIB from June 10, 2013-June 12, 2013. Selection of candidates for Ph.D program will be based on performance in aptitude test and interview. 

The names of the successful candidates eligible to join IGIB Ph.D program will be declared on June 17, 2013. The selected candidates are required to join IGIB on or before July 8, 2013.

No TA/DA will be paid at any stage of the selection process. The decision of the Admission Committee will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence will be treated as a disqualification. In case of eligible candidates with already activated JRF fellowships, the consent letter from appropriate authority is to be submitted to IGIB at the time of interview otherwise the candidature is liable to cancellation. Candidates should note that non-fulfillment of the eligibility criterion will result in cancellation of candidature at any stage of admission process.

INTRODUCTION & SCOPE OF THE COURSE:
Cryogenic technology deals with production, maintenance and applications of low temperature, typically below -150˚C. With the advancement of technology and growth of human knowledge, cryogenics is gaining more relevance in all spheres of social milieu. Today cryogenic technology is applied in medical, biological and food preservation processes as well as in futuristic technology like fusion reactors for power generation and deep space probe.
In view of the growing demand of cryogenics, both at national and global levels, this course is conducted to impart basic understandings on theories and practices of cryogenic engineering. Efforts will be made to address the broader spectrum of issues rather than discussing in depth on a particular topic. IIT is located about 6 km from the Kharagpur Railway Station. Those travelling by air may hire a taxi from Calcutta Airport, which would bring you to IIT Campus at Kharagpur (145 km one way) within 2.5 hours. The minimum charge is about Rs. 2,500/-. LSAT—India is a standardized test of reading and verbal reasoning skills designed by the USA–based Law School Admission Council (LSAC) for use by law schools in India.

LSAT—India is a paper-and-pencil test with four sections.
Test duration – 2 hours and 20 minutes

d. The work experience of minimum 03 years at a managerial position in a corporate entity.
e. The upper age limit for all participants is 50 years or less on the date of commencement of the program.

The application form can also be downloaded from NIFM website link: http://nifm.ac.in/files/application_form_PGDM3113.pdf  and the filled-in application form should be sent to NIFM Programme Office, Sector-48, Pali Road, Near Badkhal Village, Faridabad-121 001, Haryana, along with the demand draft or pay order of Rs.500/- in favour of NIFM payable at Faridabad / New Delhi.

The last date for submission of applications for officers of the Central Government, State Governments, PSUs and Defence Personnel is (tentative) March 30, 2013.
