Eligibility Criteria for Admission in to PhD Programme :

The upper age limit is 28 years (BTech / BE / MSc / MA / MCA / MBA) and 32 years (MTech / ME / MS / MPhil) and is applicable only for candidates applying in Regular and Full time category (Institute Fellows).

Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates : Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ ST applicants.

PhD in Engineering :
* Candidates having MTech / ME degree in a Engineering / Technology, with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks OR
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology (from any Institute other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75% of marks OR
* Bachelor's degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 OR
* Master's degree in Science from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70%.

PhD in Science :
* Master's degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks OR

Eligibility Criteria:

PhD Programme in Science:

(i) Masters degree in Chemical/Physical/Biological and related sciences/technology

AND

(ii) A valid research fellowship offer from UGC/CSIR/DBT/ICMR/BINC/DST-INSPIRE or any other research fellowship programme.

Candidates who have qualified only the CSIR/UGC lectureship (LS) category or GATE are not eligible.

PhD Programme in Engineering:

For applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering/Technology/related discipline:

(i) Minimum of 55% marks or 5.5 CGPA or equivalent at the Bachelors degree level (50% marks or 5.0 CGPA for SC/ST/PH candidates)
(ii) A valid GATE score above the qualifying score for that subject OR A valid research fellowship offer from CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/BINC/DST-INSPIRE or any other research fellowship programme
(iii) Age on August 15, 2012 should be less than 28 yrs (relaxable upto 5 years in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes, women, physically handicapped and OBC applicants).

For applicants with a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering/Technology/related discipline:

(i) Minimum of 55% marks or 5.5 CGPA or equivalent at the Master’s degree level (50% marks or 5.0 CGPA for SC/ST/PH candidates)
(ii) A valid research fellowship offer from CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/BINC/DST-INSPIRE or any other research fellowship programme


Selection Procedure:

Admission is through an initial screening based on minimum eligibility criteria followed by further screening test and/or personal interview.

Candidates applying to the PhD programme who fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria as mentioned on the main page may apply online at the link provided. The list of candidates eligible for appearing for the written test and/or interviews, after initial screening, will be uploaded on this website. Final list of eligible candidates under different disciplines will be announced after the interviews. Students may consider staying back in Pune for two to three days more after the interviews, so that in the event of their selection, they may complete the counseling and selection of research guides. Counseling will be held on the next day after the interviews. Details of counseling will be announced at the time of the interviews. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the screening test and/or interview or at the time of joining.

The number of students to be selected in the areas of Physical, Chemical, Biological, and Engineering sciences will depend on the vacancies that will exist for each of the disciplines.

Minimum Qualifications for Eligibility:
A candidate for admission to the PhD programme must have obtained any one of the following academic qualifications in the discipline of research or a subject allied thereto (the alliance will be decided by the Academic Council on the recommendation of the respective Board of Studies) at the Master’s degree (MTech / ME, MBA, MCA, MA, MSc, etc. other than MPhil) level from a recognized University:

(i) At least 60% marks with First class or equivalent CGPA at the Master’s Degree level;
(ii) At least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA at the Master’s Degree level followed by the degree of MPhil with course work.
(iii) At least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA at the Master’s Degree level with at least three years teaching experience in the subject concerned in a recognized College / University / Institute;
OR
at least three years’ experience on supervisory executive positions in Industry / business house.

(iv) At least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA at the Master’s Degree level and the candidate has also qualified the UGC / CSIR-NET, GATE, SLET etc.
(v) At least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA at the Master’s Degree level if the candidate has been selected as Junior / Senior Research Fellow in a research project sanctioned by UGC, CSIR, ICSSR or any other govt. body to the University or its Institutes.
(vi) In the case of NRI / Foreign candidates, at least 55% marks in the qualifying examinations of Master’s Degree in the relevant discipline. However, the candidates, who have passed the qualifying examinations from any foreign University, will have to submit equivalence certificates from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
An applicant possessing any one of the following qualifications shall be eligible to apply for admission to a Ph.D. programme of the University.
(i) A Master's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Science/ Humanities/ Social Sciences/ Commerce/ Medicine/ Law/ Education/ Pharmacy/ Management/ of a recognized Indian University, or a post graduate degree approved by Association of Indian Universities/AICTE/ UGC/ MCI/ Bar Council/ Pharmacy Council, or any other equivalent qualification to the satisfaction of Academic Council of the University duly approved by equivalence committee of the University, in the relevant field, with not less than 60% marks in aggregate.
(ii)(a) Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology with either 75% or more marks in aggregate and a minimum of three years, or 60% or more marks in aggregate and a minimum of fifteen years, relevant experience in recognized Institute/ University/ Industry/ Government Organization, may be considered eligible for admission, on the recommendation of SRC and approval by BOS.
(ii)(b) Applicants with MBBS Degree (approved by MCI) with either 60% or more marks in aggregate and a minimum of three years or 50% or more marks in aggregate and a minimum of 15 years relevant experience in Recognized Govt. Hospital/ Organization may be considered eligible for admission on the recommendation of SRC and approval by the BOS.
(iii) For applicants belonging to SC/ST category and/or physically handicapped applicants, a relaxation of 5% in marks shall be admissible under eligibility conditions.
(iv) Teachers working in any University or its affiliated colleges and having a teaching/research/other relevant experience of not less than 3 years may be allowed a relaxation of 5% marks under clause (i).
Provided that out of the two relaxations stipulated under clauses (iii) and (iv), only one relaxation is permissible for an applicant.
(v) Perspective Research Candidate generally shall not have completed an age of 55 years at the time of submission of application for registration for Ph.D. A relaxation in the prescribed age beyond 55 years can, however be recommended by the SRC/BOS recording appropriate justification for the approval by the Vice-Chancellor

SELECTION PROCEDURE:-
All the applicants shall have to appear for Research Aptitude Test (RAT) except Foreign Nationals. Candidates shall be provisionally registered if they are selected through the entrance test RAT conducted by the G.G.S. Tndraprastha University and thereafter Interview shall be conducted.

IIT Gandhinagar (IITGn) is one of the new IITs started in the academic year 2008-09. The Institute is located at Chandkheda, which is about a 15-minute drive from both Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Ahmedabad is known for its excellent infrastructure with thriving industries, prestigious academic and research institutes, and an ambiance that encourages excellence and entrepreneurship. Currently the Institute is functioning from the premises of the Vishwakarma Government Engineering College.

The Institute has excellent facilities in terms of classrooms, laboratory spaces, faculty offices, etc. IIT Gandhinagar currently offers a 4-year B. Tech. programme in Chemical, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and an M. Tech. programme in Chemical and Civil Engineering. In addition, the Institute offers the students the option to do a Minor in Computer Science or Management along with their B. Tech. degrees. It also offers Ph.D. progammes in several disciplines in Engineering (Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, and Metallurgy & Materials Science), Sciences (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) and Humanities & Social Sciences (Cognitive Science, Economics/Finance, English, Philosophy and Sociology). Starting July 2011, the Institute is introducing a futuristic undergraduate curriculum keeping in mind the urgent need to develop engineers and problem solvers for the 21st century.

The Institute currently has 493 students (434 undergraduate, 14 M. Tech. and 45 Ph. D.), 60 faculty members and 66 staff members.


IIT Gandhinagar is looking for bright and dedicated young scholars interested in research to join us as PhD scholars. Currently, we offer PhD programme in several disciplines in Engineering (Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Materials Science and Engineering), Sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) and Humanities & Social Sciences (Cognitive Science, English, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology). Prospective students satisfying the eligibility criteria are encouraged to acquaint themselves with the research areas of our faculty members for suitable match of interest. Prospective candidates should consult the project profiles of faculty members before applying for PhD program.

IIT Gandhinagar also offers a Start Early PhD Fellowship with additional financial support for exceptionally qualified undergraduate students wishing to start on a direct PhD programme. Minimum Eligibility Criteria
At least 55% marks in MA/MSc/B.Tech/M.Tech or equivalent degree in appropriate branches. Above mentioned eligibility criterion is the minimum; individual disciplines may use higher cut off levels for short listing. Candidates belonging to SC/ST categories would be eligible for relaxations, as per norms, in the selection criteria.

Course Work Requirement
IIT Gandhinagar strongly believes in value addition through course work. There is a significant amount of course work a PhD student needs to do depending on his/her background.

STEP-I : Make PAYMENT

In order to fill in the online application, payment of application fee has to be made apriori. The payments are made through Demand Draft only.

Demand drafts of Rs. 500/- (Rs. 250 for SC/ST category) should be made in favour of "IIT Kharagpur" on any nationalized bank payable at Kharagpur.

STEP-II : Fill in the ONLINE application form

Register with Your Email Id and Login. FILL in the appropriate data. You will have to FILL in the payment details also(Except women candidates). Therefore, it is essential that before you fill in the online application form make sure that you have the Demand Draft as mentioned above. You must enter the Demand Draft number and the Bank name for the payment details. You have to upload your digital photograph and signature. Please make sure that you have your passport size digital photograph and digital image of your signature ready before submitting online.

STEP-III : PRINT the online application form

After freezing the online application, you will be able to generate a PDF document of the online application with your specific details/data. For this your computer must have Adobe Acrobat Reader. From the onscreen view of the PDF document that your browser projects, you must PRINT the generated PDF online application form.

How To Apply
All applications should be submitted online in PGEE portal To submit the application, a candidate has to complete two registration forms: Pre-Registration Form and Main Registration Form.

After filling the Pre-Registration form, the candidate receives an E-Mail which contains the link and identification code. The link should be opened in a browser by supplying the identification code to fill in the Main Registration Form.

The main registration form can only be filled by opening the link received through the E-Mail, after filling in the preceeding pre-registration form.

Applicants can apply for one or more programmes in the same form by indicating choices.

The application fee is Rs. 1000/- for one programme and Rs. 50/- extra for each additional programme applied for.

Application fee can be paid either through Credit Card or through Demand Draft.

Demand Draft- While filling-in the Main Registration form, the candidate can opt for Demand Draft option. After submitting the Main Registration form.Demand Draft in favor of IIIT, Hyderabad for appropriate amount should be drawn.

ADMISSIONS:
All admissions shall be made strictly on merit as determined on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the Entrance Examination to be conducted by University, except the following:

(a) Admissions to BTech Programmes shall be made by the University on the basis of merit of AIEEE Examination conducted by CBSE, New Delhi.
(b) Admissions to Masters programme in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology shall be made through the entrance examination conducted by JNU, New Delhi. For application forms and other details candidates may contact JNU, New Delhi.
(c) Admission to Masters programmes in MBA / MBA (Agribusiness) shall be made through CAT score and Group Discussion and an Interview conducted by the University.
(d) In MTech programmes, admission shall be made first based on the qualified GATE score. Vacant seats shall be filled based on OGPA / percentage (%) of marks of BTech. The candidate should have secured at least an OGPA of not less than 6.000 / 10.000 or 3.000 / 5.000 or 55% marks in aggregate in case of the Institutions / Universities where these scales are not applicable in the Bachelor's degree. However, admission towards seats for Other State candidates in MTech Agricultural Engineering majors shall be made through Entrance Examination conducted by ICAR. In case, domicile candidates of Uttarakhand are not available for the sanctioned seats, the same shall be filled from amongst candidates of Other States.
(e) Admissions to MCA programme shall be made on the basis of separate Entrance Examination to be conducted by the University. In case a candidate wants to appear for other Masters programmes in addition to MCA, he/she has to fill separate application form.
(f) Candidates other than Bonafide residents of Uttarakhand are not eligible to seek admission directly to the Undergraduate and Masters degree programmes in the University. However, they can apply to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi/Veterinary Council of India, New Delhi. They will have to submit a separate application as and when called by ICAR/VCI, New Delhi and take All India Competitive Examinations and attend counselling at New Delhi for seat allotment. The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda shall hold Entrance Examination for eligibility for admission to Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PET) on 11th March 2012 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at General Education Building, Opp. D. N. Hall Cricket Ground, Pratapgunj, Vadodara.

Eligibility:
The candidates holding recognized Master's degree or equivalent to the Master's degree with at least 50% of marks or equivalent grades are eligible to apply for this examination. The candidates who have appeared for the qualifying Master Degree (Final year) examination and whose result is still awaited may also apply for this examination. However, such candidates shall be issued certificate of passing PhD entrance examination and considered eligible for admission to Doctor of Philosophy program only after they produce passing certificate of their Master’s Degree with 50% of marks or equivalent grades. In case they do not pass their Master’s Degree with 50% of marks or equivalent grades, their result of PhD entrance examination shall automatically stand cancelled.

Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribes (ST)/Physically Handicapped (PH)/Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) should attach attested copy of necessary certificates with the application form.

Exemption:
The candidates who have qualified in National / State level competitive examination such as UGC-CSIR / NET / SLET / GATE / DBT / ICMR / GA / JRF are exempted from appearing in University Entrance examination for eligibility of admission to PhD.

The qualifying mark is 55% in Post-Graduation for general category and 50% for reserved category. Candidates fulfilling eligibility criteria in the respective disciplines may download the soft copy of the application form from the website link:

For Integrated Ph.D Programme in Physical Sciences: Rs 12,000 per month during the first two years of the programme. Thereafter, upon meeting the eligibility criteria, the students will be inducted as JRF and will be paid Rs. 16000/- per month.

For For Ph.D Programme in Physical, Chemical & Biological Sciences: In line with the current rules Rs 16,000 per month for the first two years as a JRF. Thereafter, upon meeting the eligibility criteria of the Centre, the students will be inducted as SRF with a monthly stipend of Rs. 18000/- .
Selection Procedure: A written test (BOSE TEST 2012) will be conducted by SNBNCBS on Sunday, the 4th March 2012 at different Centres throughout the Country and the successful candidates will be considered for interview.

Common Eligibility Test CET for Ph.D Admissions 2012


Applications have been invited by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad, UP for State level "Common Eligibility Test" to be conducted on 29-4-2012 for admission to various "Doctoral Programs" in State Universities of UP during the Year 2012-13.

Eligibility:
1. Masters degree in relevant subject (See List of Subjects in Table-1) with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent Letter Grade/Grade Point under the Seven Point Letter Grade Scale laid down by the UGC. A 5% relaxation in minimum marks at PG level shall be given to SC/ST and physically handicapped/disabled candidates OR
The minimum educational qualification prescribed by the individual State University in their Statutes/Ordinances etc for admission to Doctoral program.

2. The candidates appearing in Final year/Final semester examination are also eligible to apply. However they will have to produce their Final year/Final Semester examination result at the time of admission.

3. 'UGC minimum standards and procedures for award of MPhil / PhD degree Regulation 2009' read with clarification on Guidelines for admission to PhD circulated vide Letter No. F.1-1/2002(PS)/Exemp Part file III March 2011 shall be applicable with respect to NET qualified candidates.

Examination Fee:
Rs. 800/- for General/OBC candidates and Rs. 400/- for SC/ST candidates.

The prescribed Application forms will be available from February 25, 2012. The candidates can obtain the prescribed application form through scheduled counter of the main branch of State Bank of India and Head Post Office of the cities (Cities for CET) as mentioned below:
