The Ph.D. Programme of the Institute covers Doctoral research in a variety of business related areas leading to the award of Ph.D. degree. The main objectives of the Ph.D. Programme are:
• To provide facilities for higher studies and advanced research in areas relating to International Business;
• To encourage and facilitate research on contemporary issues in the field of International Business; and
• To encourage publication of research papers in academic journals, occasional papers and monographs, books and other refereed forums.
One of the primary purposes of doctoral studies is to encourage in-depth analysis and enrich knowledge in the chosen field. This includes the ability to independently apply methodologies of scientific research as well as to create new scientific knowledge. Further, the candidate should demonstrate an ability to critically analyze research findings and to understand their importance in the relevant context. Skills to undertake and to effectively communicate research results are needed in order to succeed in postgraduate studies.
Thus, it is important to assume an adequate knowledge and understanding of the problems, research methodologies, historical developments, theory formulation and societal importance of the scientific disciplines which are related to the candidate’s own research field.
IIFT has two campuses, viz. New Delhi and Kolkata. Selected candidates can attend the course classes from Delhi as well as Kolkata campus (via video conferencing).

Number of seats:
• Total Number of Seats: FIFTEEN (13 + 2 Sponsored Candidates).
• The admitted students will be distributed between Part Time and Full Time research scholars.
• IIFT will follow the ‘Reservation’ policy as per Government of India Rules.

Eligibility:
The eligibility for applying in IIFT’s Ph.D. programme are the following:
• Master’s degree (including IIFT MPIB/MBA (IB)), in any discipline from a recognized university with at least 55% marks or equivalent to B Plus in aggregate.
OR
• Four years of B.Tech/B.E. or equivalent degree in engineering from a recognized university with minimum 60% (CGPA of 4.5 on a scale of 7 or equivalent to B Plus) and minimum 5 years of
work experience.
OR
• Diploma courses which are considered equivalent to Master Degree (e.g. PGDIM from IIMs) with 55% marks or CGPA equivalent to B Plus, recognized by AICTE/UGC only would be considered. In such cases candidates would be required to produce the necessary certificate(s) from competent authority.
OR
• A Professional qualification like CA, ICWA, CS, with at least 55% marks or CGPA equivalent to B Plus and minimum 5 years of work experience.
Overseas students can also apply as long as they satisfy the above-mentioned criteria. They need to produce GMAT score (the GMAT result should not have been declared before 1st
January 2010 and should be received by the Institute latest by 31st March 2012) to get exemption from appearing in Entrance Tests. Candidates only with GMAT scores of 500 and above may apply. However, they will be required to appear for viva-voce and attend the course work in the campus, if selected.

Desireable:
• Credits would be given to candidates with good publication records such as books, papers in National/ International Journals and paper presentation experiences in National/International conferences.
• Candidates with prior teaching and research experience or Candidates from industry having made exceptional contribution in their area of work would be given an important consideration.


Admission Processes:
A three-stage process is followed for admission to the Ph.D. Programme.
Stage I: The Expert Panel Members of the Institute will screen the applications together with necessary
enclosures and prepare the list of the candidates to be allowed for appearing in the entrance
examination based on their academic eligibility. The list will be uploaded in the web-page of the
Institute, well in advance of the entrance test.
Stage II: Only eligible candidates will be called for the Written Entrance Test, comprising of:
• One hour Objective Test (based on Logical Reasoning and Mathematics (12th Standard)) and
• One hour Descriptive Test (on Research Aptitude) to judge writing skill of candidates on contemporary i s s u e s
It is important to note that Objective Test is a screening test. Papers of the Descriptive test will be examined only for those candidates, who qualify in the objective test. Qualifying both the tests is essential and merit list will be prepared considering marks received by a candidate in both the tests.

Stage III: Candidates who would qualify in the Entrance test will subsequently appear for an interview
conducted by Expert Panel Members at the Institute in New Delhi.

IIFT will not bear any cost borne by the candidates for appearing in the written test and viva-voce.

Note:-
There will be an evaluation committee under the Supervision of Chairperson (Research) to scrutinize the applications of the candidates in order to call them for entrance examination. Applications will be arranged according to different subject areas.
In case of sponsored candidates, Admission Process will be similar. Separate merit list will be prepared for sponsored candidates.


Exam centres:
• The written entrance examination will take place both in Kolkata and New Delhi campus of the institute.
• However, interview of a candidate, qualifying the entrance examination, will only be conducted in the New Delhi campus of the institute.

Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences (RMRIMS) is holding pre Ph.D. registration test on 25th Feb.2012 for interested candidates who have to work at RMRIMS and get registered for Ph.D. from Calcutta Univ. The RMRIMS has been affiliated with Univ. of Calcutta and T. M. Bhagalpur Univ. for Ph.D. registration and award of Degree. The Institute encompasses research on broad interdisciplinary areas of (1) Biochemistry, (2) Biostatistics, (3) Bioinformatics and Drug Discovery, (4) Clinical Medicine, (5) Entomology, (6) Epidemiology, (7) Immunology, (8) Microbiology, (9) Molecular Biology, (10) Cell Biology etc. The candidate qualified eligibility test for JRF in CSIR-NET/DBT/ICMR is exempted from the written test. However, they will require filling the form and to appear in the interview and course work.

Total number of seats available: 18 (UR-9, OBC-5, SC-3, ST-1). The number of seats is tentative, subjected to change at any time by competent authority.

Minimum Qualification:
A. Students having 55% or above marks in minimum essential qualification (M. B. B. S.* or M.Sc/ M.Tech/ M. Pharm. in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Statistics/ Zoology/ Life Sciences or equivalent recognized by UGC, India) are eligible to apply for this exam. However, SC/ST candidates having 50% or more marks in above mentioned degree are eligible to apply.

B. Candidates appearing in final examination to secure minimum essential qualification this year may also apply; they will be admitted provisionally pending and satisfactory fulfilment of the above requirements at the time of joining will be needed.

*The candidate having M.B.B.S. degree should have three publications as first author in peer reviewed International journals of the relevant discipline prior to registration.

Selection procedure:
A. Candidates fulfilling minimum requirements will be invited for a written qualifying test at their own expenses on 25th Feb. 2012 at RMRIMS, Patna.

B. The written test is aimed at evaluating their knowledge in the respective field, abilities to comprehend, analyse and reason based on given syllabus (on the website).

C. Result of qualified candidates will be available on the website of the Institute/ICMR as well as the notice board of the Institute. Passed candidates will be called for interview.

D. Selected candidate will be enrolled for the PhD programme of RMRIMS, in academic affiliation with University of Calcutta.

E. Reservations as per statutory norms.

Ph.D. programme:
No stipend will be provided to the passed candidates from the Institute; however, preference will be given if any project comes to the Institute. Moreover, students will be appreciated to manage their own fellowship. Hostel accommodation will be available to both boys and girls student subject to the availability.

1. The Admission Committee shall be responsible for conducting the admission of students in the Ph. D. Programme for the academic session 2012-13.

2. Ph. D. Programme in Management:
2.1. Ph. D. Programme in management is a four-year full-time residential programme at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University under School of Petroleum Management (SPM)

2.2. Each of the first two years is divided in three trimesters, in which course work is done.

2.3. Final two years are for writing the doctoral thesis.

3. Eligibility and Selection Process
3.1. Eligibility:

3.1.1. Candidates who have appeared at Common Admission Test (CAT), or Xavier Admission Test (XAT), Management Aptitude Test (MAT), GMAT or GRE in last two years are eligible to apply.

3.1.2. Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications to apply for SPM’s Doctoral Programme
A Masters Degree in any discipline, with at least 55 percent marks, with a Bachelors degree/ equivalent qualification with at-least 50 percent marks obtained after a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent, or
Five year/four year Integrated Masters Degree programme in any discipline, with at least 55 percent marks, obtained after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent, or
A professional qualification like CA, ICWA, CS, with at least 55 percent marks.
3.1.3. The Bachelor's and Master's degrees, or an equivalent qualification must be from Universities recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, or any University incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956. Candidates holding equivalent degree(s) from any recognised foreign University can also apply.
3.1.4. In case of the candidates being awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence would be based on the equivalence certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained bachelor's degree.
3.1.5. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by the SPM by dividing earned CGPA with the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the quotient with 100.
3.1.6. A candidate appearing for the final year examination of Master's degree or equivalent can also apply.
Such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally.
However, the admission will be confirmed provided that final mark sheet and degree certificate are submitted not later than September 30, 2012 and if the candidate has met the prescribed eligibility criteria.
Non-fulfilment of the above conditions/dates will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.

3.2 Selection Process:
3.2.1. The candidates shortlisted on the basis of evaluation of academic records, application packet and CAT/XAT/MAT/GMAT/GRE scores, will be invited for the selection process.

3.2.2. The selection process includes, (a) Research Aptitude Test (b) Research Interest Presentation (c) Personal Interview
3.2.3. Candidates who have passed UGC NET or JRF will be exempted from writing the Aptitude Test.
3.2.4. Candidates who pass the Aptitude test will be asked to make Research Interest Presentation followed by appearance in Personal Interview.

3.3. Relevant research experience and academic performance may be part of evaluation.


4.Admission Process:
4.1 Candidates eligible as per the clause 3.1 may apply by sending the duly filled in application form (available at Schools' website www.spm.pdpu.ac.in along with the payment of the application fee of Rs. 2,000.
4.2 The application fee can be paid via a demand draft drawn in favour of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, payable at Ahmedabad. The Application fee can also be paid in the University account at Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) A/C No. 09331131002245. In this case the payment receipt must be enclosed along with filled application form
4.3 Candidates are required to send filled application form by registered post, or through DTDC courier. The University has tie-up with DTDC courier. DTDC delivers the packets to the University on daily basis.


4.4 The last date of applying for the admission is 28th February, 2012.


4.5 The list of received applications will be put up on the School's website www.spm.pdpu.ac.in on 2nd March 2012.
4.6 Short-listed candidates will be invited for Aptitude Test as well as Research Interest Presentation and Personal Interview. The schedule for these will be displayed on the School website on 2nd March 2012.
4.7 Candidates have to bear all expenses for attending the selection process. During PI the School will make arrangements for refreshment and lunch.
4.8 A candidate appearing for the selection process is required to report at least one hour in advance as per the schedule and register with Admission Counsellor.
4.9 In case a candidate is late, the Admission Counsellor may accommodate him in next session on the same day if possible.
4.10 If a candidate cannot appear for the selection process on scheduled date due to unavoidable circumstances, he or his guardian may earliest request by writing to the Admission Committee along with documentary evidence showing reason for inability to appear on scheduled date, and seek an alternate arrangement. Such request must be made in a reasonable timeframe. The Admission Committee will take an appropriate decision on such request. The decision of Admission Committee will be final and binding to all.

4.11 The candidates must bring the following documents for verification at the time of PI:
(a) Mark-sheets
(b) CAT / XAT / MAT?GMAT/GRE Admit Card
(c) CAT / XAT / MAT/GMAT/GRE Score Card
(d) Identity Proof
(e) Experience Certificate, if any
(f) Character Certificate from the University/School last attended, certifying that the applicant had not been indulged in any activity subversive of the rules, regulations and discipline of the institution, and that the applicant has never resorted to unfair means in any examination conducted by the institution.

4.12 The list of selected and waitlisted candidates will be available on the website on 27th April 2012.

4.13 Selected students are required to make payment latest by 11th May 2012 as per the clause 7.2.1 to secure admission and obtain admission letter.

4.14 Last date of admission for candidates notified in the final list is 11th May 2012. All candidates should complete admission formalities by this date, failing which the admission offer will stand cancelled.

4.15 If at any stage, the information provided by the candidate is found to be false, his candidature/admission shall be cancelled and he will be debarred from applying for admission in School for next two years.

4.16 All communication by the School for the admission process will be made through SPM website www.spm.pdpu.ac.in. Candidates are strongly recommended to access the School's website on regular basis for admission updates.

5. Stipend
5.1. The PDPU awards stipend to the Ph. D. students as follows:
(a) During the first two years’ of course work: Rs. 20,000 per month
(b) During the third year (after completion of the course work): Rs. 22,500 per month (c) In the fourth year: Rs. 25,000 per month

5.2 In addition to the monthly stipend a doctoral student is given an annual Professional Development Assistance of Rs. 15,000 in the first year, 15,000 in the second year, Rs. 20,000 in the third year and Rs. 20,000 in the fourth year.

5.3 During the final stage of the doctoral work a student is entitled to reimbursement up Rs. 1,00,000 for attending / presenting paper in conferences, publishing paper in national and international journals and for such academic pursuits.

The above payment is subject to rules and approval as per the policy of the University.

Eligibility:

Biological Sciences: 60% in Masters in any branches of Biology, life sciences and bioinformatics. Student with masters in any branches of natural or computer sciences with interest in pursuing career in biology. Candidates should have qualified the CSIR-NET/ GATE/ JEST/ NBHM/ INSPIRE or equivalent examination valid for the current year in the relevant area of research. UGC-CSIR or any other JRF qualified candidates have to avail the fellowship directly from UGC or CSIR or any other whereas, students selected for Ph.D. program based on GATE/ GPAT/ JEST or any other scores, are eligible for financial aid (Assistantship / Scholarship) from NISER, Bhubaneswar.

The form can be obtained by post or in person from the Academic Section, NISER Bhubaneswar. In case of request by post, please enclose a self-addressed envelope (A4 size, 21 cm X 30 cm) affixed with postage stamps of Rs. 25/-.

Candidates intending to apply for more than one program should use separate application form for each program with appropriate enclosures.

NISER does not demand any entrance fee from the candidates who apply for Ph.D program.

Indian Institute of Information Technology and Mangement-Kerala (IIITM-K) has invited applications for admission to the Ph.D. programme in Computer Science and IT in the areas of Machine/Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining Medical Image Computing and VLSI Memory Networks, commencing in November 2011.

Eligibility:
For admission to the Ph.D. Programme a candidate must have a Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Science / MCA / M.Sc CS/IT in a relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.

Preference will be given to candidates who have qualified in the entrance test conducted by the university or National Eligibility Test conducted by the UGC / CSIR / ICAR / ICMR or GATE or State Level Eligibility Test conducted by Kerala Government or Fellowship awarded by KSCSTE or who possess M Phil degree by research and thesis, in addition to a Masters Degree or its equivalent with not less than 60% marks are considered eligible to apply for registration for PhD research.

Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates:
Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ ST applicants.

SPEED-IT Research Fellowship:
The selected full-time candidates shall be eligible to get ”SPEED-IT Research Fellowship” instituted by the Department of Information Technology, Government of Kerala. Number of seats for SPEED IT Scholarship is 2.

Each selected student will be eligible for a monthly fellowship of Rs 14,000/- for the first year, Rs 15,000/- for the second year and Rs 17,000/- for the third year. An annual contingency grant of Rs 20,000/- will also be paid.

Selection :
Researchers will be selected on the basis of research aptitude test, a presentation of their PhD research proposal, and personal interview conducted by IIITM-K of candidates who meet the standards prescribed by a University in Kerala. Those who have not qualified any of the examinations prescribed by University to register for Ph.D, should qualify the examination within one year, and then proceed for registration.

Initial shortlisting process: The applications are reviewed by 3 experts and applications shortlisted based on the total marks given by them. In short listing the candidates, 70% weightage is given to research potential. The remaining 30% is divided as: 10% for applicants university marks at masters level, 10% for research/academic/industry experience, and 10% for peer-reviewed research publications.

Interview:
Only shortlisted candidates are called for the interview. There will three rounds of interview assessments lasting two days.

Admission Requirements: The admission requirement for the PhD program in the science stream is MSc in any branch of science and a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering/Technology or related discipline for the PhD Programme in Engineering. Applicants should have qualified for a UGC/CSIR/DBT/ICMR/BINC/DST-INSPIRE JRF or any other research fellowship programme. Admission is through an initial screening of the applications followed by personal interview.

Application procedure and interview schedule: Candidates applying to the PhD program who fulfil the requirements may be asked to submit their application by email/hardcopy or apply online at the CSIR-NCL/AcSIR website. The list of candidates eligible for appearing interviews, after initial screening will be uploaded on the CSIR-NCL/AcSIR website. The interviews will be held in the last week of November 2011 at CSIR-NCL. List of selected candidates under different disciplines will be announced after the interviews. Students may consider staying back in Pune for two to three days more after the interviews, so that in the event of their selection, they may complete the counselling and selection of research guides. Counselling will be held on the next day after the interviews. Details of counselling will be announced at the time of the interviews. The selected candidates are required to join for research on or before January 02, 2012.
