GATE - 2012 Job Oppertunites

The Score of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) turning to be a screening tool for recruitment of Engineer trainees to major Public Sector Undertakings in the country, GATE 2012 has all of a sudden turned out to be a major attraction with over 10 lakhs expected to have registered for the examination.

GATE till now was only an eligibility examination for students to do Post Graduation in Engineering/Technology with MHRD and other Fellowships/ Scholarships. However, from 2012, it is going to be a score that is going to be used to short list applicants for selection of Graduate Engineer trainees in several organizations. These undertakings include BHEL, NTPC and Indian Oil.

BHEL: BHEL is planning to recruit a total of 800 Engineer Trainee for 2012-13 from Mechanical (550 numbers), Electrical (175) and Electronics (75)

Candidates who wish to apply for Engineer Trainee position in BHEL for the year 2012-13 will be required to take the Graduate Aptitude Test of Engineering - 2012 (GATE-2012). The scores obtained in GATE-2012 will be utilized by BHEL for inviting candidates for a Personal Interview for consideration for the position of Engineer Trainees. After submitting applications for GATE-2012, candidates will be allotted Registration No. Candidates will have to separately apply on-line to BHEL for which BHEL recruitment website http://careers.bhel.in will be activated from 4.1.2012. In BHEL on-line applications, candidates will have to give their GATE-2012 registration No.

General/OBC candidates are required to make a payment of Rs. 100/- as processing fee through the Powerjyoti Account (details will be made available at the website from 4th January, 2012). SC/ST/PH candidates are exempted from payment of this fee. On submission of online application, the system will generate an Acknowledgement Slip having a unique Acknowledgement No. Candidates should take a print out of the Acknowledgement Slip, affix a copy of the same photograph used for GATE-2012, sign at the space provided and send it to BHEL along with the challan of Rs. 100/-. The passport size photograph affixed by the candidate should be the same submitted along with GATE-2012 application form. In case the candidate is called for interview, he/she will have to bring with him/her, the GATE-2012 admit card, GATE-2012 official score card and other relevant documents which will be mentioned in the interview call letter.

Selection process will comprise of GATE 2012 score of the candidates in the concerned disciplines & performance in Interview. The candidates will be short listed for interview on the basis of GATE-2012 score in order of merit in the ratio of 1:3 to the number of vacancies in each discipline and category. For Physically Challenged candidates, relaxation of 20% below the cut-off marks will be provided. Final selection panels shall be prepared by assigning a weightage of 75% for GATE-2012 score and 25% to Interview marks.

For applying the above ratio, initially, all UR candidates of each discipline of Engineering along with such reserved category candidates of that discipline, who do not avail any relaxation, will be grouped together and then arranged in descending order of GATE-2012 score and candidates, shall be called for interview in the ratio of 1: 3 in UR category. After this, candidates belonging to OBC/SC/ST categories, who are not short listed for interview as UR, shall be regrouped with their respective categories for further consideration in their respective categories and candidates will be called for interview in the prescribed ratio of 1:3. Later on, at the time of final selection, the same exercise will be carried out.

Indian Oil: IndianOil is planning to recruit Engineers/ Graduate Apprentice Engineers (GAEs) of Chemical Engineering, Computer Science & Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering. Graduate engineers from the relevant disciplines, desirous of taking up a career with IndianOil are required to appear in GATE-2012 in the same disciplines. The disciplines and corresponding GATE papers along with GATE paper codes are given at http://iocl.com/download/Recruitment_2012_Detail_Ad_Engineers_23_sep_11.pdf On the basis of GATE-2012 score, candidates will be short listed for further selection process comprising of Group Discussion / Group Task, Personal Interview for assessment of different facets of knowledge, skill, attitude and aptitude. Only GATE-2012 score is valid for this recruitment exercise. GATE score of 2011 or scores prior to that is not valid.

On downloading the GATE-2012 admit card and receipt of GATE registration number, candidates need to apply to Indian Oil, Online. The relevant link will be made available from 2nd Janaury’2012 on the IndianOil’s website www.iocl.com. Candidates should click on the ‘ONLINE’ application link, read the instructions carefully and fill-in the ONLINE application form giving accurate information including the GATE-2012 Registration number.

The last date for receiving the ONLINE application for IndianOil is 11th February 2012.
