Eligibility for MBA Programme:
Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university with not less than 55% marks in the aggregate taking into account the marks scored in all subjects of all the university examination conducted during the entire prescribed period of the degree programme. However, this prescribed minimum marks shall be 50% in the case of SC / ST students. Final year students can also apply but admission is subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria & CAT Score.

PhD Program on Fulltime basis:
Eligibility and Selection:

The prescribed minimum qualification for admission into PhD program is MTech / ME / MS /MPhil or equivalent degree, or BTech / BE / MSc / MSc (Tech) / MA or equivalent degree.
For PhD in Management, the minimum qualification is MTech in Management, or MBA with BTech, or MBA with Master’s degree either in Sciences or in Economics. CAT or GMAT qualification is desirable.
For PhD in Bio- technology the minimum qualification is BTech / MTech (Bio-Tech) or equivalent degree.
Admission to a PhD program shall be open to candidates who passed the prescribed qualifying examination in first class with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.5 in the 0 - 10 scale grading system (6.0 in the case of SC / ST candidates), or not less than 60% marks in the aggregate (55% marks in the case of SC / ST candidates).
For a PhD candidate under fulltime on institute fellowship, he / she must be sound academically, and must possess First Class both at BTech and MTech from recognized institutes or universities and the GATE or NET qualification.

The candidates selected for admission for PhD under Fulltime basis are eligible to receive institute fellowship as follows. The tenure of a research scholarship is three years only.

(a) Candidates joining with Master's degree in, Engineering / Technology or a degree recognized as equivalent thereto,
Rs.18, 000/- per month, for the first two years
Rs.20, 000/- per month, in the third year.

A facility of Teaching Assistantship is also available to the suitable candidates.

(b) Candidates joining with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology or Master's degree in Science, MBA, Arts or Social Science or MCom or a degree recognized as equivalent to any of them.
Rs. 16,000/- per month, for the first two years
Rs. 18,000/- per month in the third year

PhD Program on Part time basis:

Educational Qualifications:
An applicant possessing the following qualification shall be eligible for admission to a PhD programme of the Institute (degrees obtained through distance education mode shall not be acceptable).

i) Engineering Stream-
(a) Master’s degree (MTech / ME / MS) or equivalent in appropriate discipline with a minimum CGPA of 7.0 or 65% marks in aggregate (of all the years / semesters of the course), preceded by a First Class Bachelor’s degree in Engg. / Tech.
Or
(b) Master’s degree (MTech / ME / MS) or equivalent in appropriate discipline with a minimum CGPA of 6.7 or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters of the course) preceded by a First Class Bachelor’s degree in Engg. / Tech. and a minimum of 10 years of regular service in Govt. Organizations or educational institutes.
Or
(c) Bachelor’s degree (BTech / BE) in appropriate discipline, or equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 9.5 or 90% marks in aggregate (of all the years / semesters of the course). Such a candidate has to attend and clear compulsorily at least four theory courses of MTech in relevant discipline, as decided by the DRC.
Or
(d) Bachelor’s degree (BTech / BE) in appropriate discipline, or equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 7.6 or 70% marks in aggregate (of all the years / semesters of the course), and a minimum of 15 years of regular service in Govt. Organizations or teaching institutes of degree level. Such a candidate has to clear compulsorily at least four theory courses of MTech in relevant discipline, as decided by the DRC.

ii) Sciences, Mathematics & Computer Applications Streams-
First Master’s degree in the appropriate discipline, or equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 7.0 or 65% marks in aggregate (of all the years / semesters of the course).

iii) Humanities, Social Sciences & Management Streams-
First Master’s degree in the appropriate discipline, or equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 6.7 or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years / semesters of the course).

Additional Eligibility Conditions for Part-Time PhD Admission:
a) The applicant should be an employee of an educational institute / org and must have completed on the last day of receiving applications, a minimum of two years of continuous service as at least a Lecturer or equivalent.
b) The candidate proves to the satisfaction of the DRC that his / her official duties permit him to devote sufficient time to research.
c) The candidate proves to the satisfaction of the DRC that facilities for pursuing research in the chosen field of research are available at his place of work.
d) He is required to visit (on working days) NITK to discuss the research work with his supervisor in the Dept. He may visit any number of times but must visit at least twice in each semester at intervals of not less than a month. All such visits be reported to the Chairman of the DRC for record.

VI. Faculty of Management Studies
Post graduates programme or equivalent with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent [for SC / ST candidates the minimum marks is 50% (CGPA 5.5/10)] and NET / UGC / CSIR fellowship in the relevant area tenable form the current year.
Candidates with master’s degree in engineering and technology or architecture with GATE Score OR having Managerial experience for not less than 5 years OR when applying for Part time / Internal / External scheme of registration do not require UGC / NET / CSIR / JRFfellowship.

Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. Programme:

Eligibility Criteria for M.Tech (Research) Programme:
The minimum qualification required for admission to M.Tech (Research) programme in Engineering, Science, Management, Humanities & Social Science is one of the following:
a) B.E./B.Tech./B.Pharm/MCA or equivalent in relevant discipline with 60 percent marks in aggregate (or 6.5 CGPA).
b) M.Sc. in Basic Sciences with 60 percent marks in aggregate (or 6.5 CGPA) in relevant disciplines.
c) M.B.B.S. with 60 percent marks in aggregate (or 6.5 CGPA).
d) M. Sc. /M.A. / MBA / M.Com. in Humanities, Social Sciences or Management with 60 per cent marks or 6.5 CGPA.

Applicants Awaiting Results:
Applicants who have fully completed the final examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply for both M.Tech(Res) and PhD programmes. The following conditions apply:
1. For all course based degrees [B.Tech, M.Sc., MBA, M.Tech (Regular)] results need to have been published before admission is granted.
2. For thesis based Postgraduate degrees [M.Tech (by Research), MS or equivalent] a student given admission to the PhD programme is permitted one year from the date of his/her thesis submission (proof required) to submit successful result. During this period students awarded fellowship will be paid fellowship at B.Tech rate. Difference of fellowship will be paid on submission of results.

(b) read the advertisement carefully,
(c) read the instructions to fill up the online application form
(d) fill up and submit the online application form accordingly and

ADMISSION TO M. Tech./ MURP PROGRAM: 2011
Courses are offered in Master of Technology (M. Tech.) in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engg, Computer Sc. & Engg., Electronics & Communication with different specializations and Master in Urban and Regional Planning (MURP).

Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Admission - M.Tech. and MURP : Admission to Post Graduate program (M.Tech. and MURP) will be granted in the Autumn (Odd) semester of each academic session on the basis of the performance at Common all India competitive test known as Graduate Aptitudes Test (GATE) for Engineering and Architecture.

The candidate must have

(i) Passed Bachelor’s degree or equivalent examination with specialization in relevant branches/ disciplines as specified for different Master’s specialization/ courses.
(ii) The candidates under different categories must have minimum percentage of marks in aggregate (of all the semesters/ years) or minimum CGPA in 10 point scale (as determined by NIT Patna) in their qualifying examination.
(iii) Candidates presently in last semester/ final year may also be considered for admission provided they fulfill above criterion and submit final passing result before start of academic session. If the candidates selected for admission fails to submit passing certificate or his/ her percentage marks in aggregate falls below the minimum requirement, then his/ her admission shall stand cancelled.
(iv) Admission under different categories shall be made in order of preference of discipline/ branch of specialization on GATE Score of the candidate for different specialization.
(v) The GATE score certificate may be used by the candidate for one time admission only.
(vi) Merit list of the candidates based on qualifying GATE score shall be prepared for grant of admission. Candidate’s Inter-se-merit shall be as per preferential order of Branch/ Specialization at Bachelor’s degree program indicated above. The minimum cut off GATE score notified by GATE authority may be revised by the Institute.
(vii) The minimum percentage cut-off of marks/ CGPA in qualifying examination and cut-off GATE Score Percentile for different categories of candidates is detailed below:
General: 60% in Aggregate/ CGPA: 6.75
OBC: 60% in Aggregate/ CGPA: 6.75
SC/ ST/ PH: 55% in Aggregate/ CGPA: 6.25
Sponsored: 60% in Aggregate/ CGPA: 6.75


ADMISSION TO Ph. D. PROGRAM: 2011
Courses are Offered in Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) Program under Mechanical,Civil Engg., Computer Sc. & Engg., Architecture, Mathematics, Physics and Humanities & Social Sciences departments.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Admission - Ph.D
Candidates with following qualification shall be eligible for admission to the Ph. D. Programme

For Engineering, Technology and Architecture Departments:
(a) Candidates possessing M. Tech/ M. E/ M. Sc. (Engg.)/ M. Arch or equivalent Degree in relevant branch from a recognized University/ Institute with minimum 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale) in the qualifying examination shall be considered for admission in the departments as per their Specialization only.

(b) Candidates possessing B. Tech/ B. E/ B. Sc. (Engg.)/ B. Arch or equivalent Degree in relevant branch from a recognized University/ Institute with minimum 75% marks (or a CGPA of 8.25 in 10 point scale) in all (from 10th onward) examinations including qualifying examination may be considered in exceptional cases after approval of DRC. Such candidates must have professional/ research experience of at least ten years in reputed Institutions/ Organizations.

For Science Departments: Candidates possessing Masters Degree in the area of Science from a recognized University/ Institute with minimum 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale) in the qualifying examinations shall be considered for admission in the departments as per their Specialization only.

Candidates for admission to MS (by Research) degree programme shall be required to have 60 percentage of marks or 6.5 CGPA (for OC / OBC) in the B.E./B.Tech. degree and a valid GATE SCORE in the appropriate subject. In case of SC/ST candidates the eligibility requirement is 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 and a valid GATE SCORE in the appropriate subject. Final semester students with a valid GATE score can also apply provided their final marks are made available on or before 15th September, 2011. Such candidates may be considered for provisional admission. These candidates must include attested copies of the mark lists and bonafide certificate from the Head of the Institution along with the application form.

ELIGIBILILTY FOR ADMISSION TO M.Sc. PROGRAMMES
Minimum of 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in the qualifying examination, for OP / OBC and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 for SC / ST candidates. Final semester students can also apply provided their final marks are made available on or before 15th September, 2011. Such candidates may be considered for provisional admission. Admission to a MTech Programme shall be open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying Examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, or not less than 55% of marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/university examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 5.0 or 50% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST candidates.

B. MTech (Research) Programme: (common to all P.G. Programmes): Full time - Two years (Four Semesters)
A pass in the prescribed qualifying examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.0 OR not less than 60% marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public / university examination conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme) For SC/ST minimum CGPA of 5.5 OR 55% marks in the aggregate. Valid GATE score is essential for scholarship seats

C. MCA Programme : Full time Three-year (Six Semester) course
1. Candidates securing 60% marks or 6.5/10 CGPA (55% or 6.0/10 CGPA for SC/ST) in each of the examination of
(i) 12th level with Mathematics and
(ii) Bachelor’s Degree of full time 3 year duration from a recognised University with any one of the following as one of the subjects.
a. Mathematics
b. Statistics

D. MBA Programme: Full time Two year course (Four semester)
1. Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a Recognized University with not less than 55% marks (or cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system) in the aggregate taking into account the marks scored in all subjects of all the University examination conducted during the entire prescribed period of the degree Programme. However, this prescribed minimum marks shall be 50% (CGPA of at least 5.0 in the 0-10 scale grading system) in the case of SC/ST.
2. CAT - 2010 Score
Admission is based on the Rank/Scores obtained in the CAT - 2010 and Group discussion and Interview.

E. MSc Programme : Full time Two years (Four semesters) course:
Eligibility for admission to MSc Programme in:
i. M. Sc in Chemistry: A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry with 60% (or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.0 in the 0-10 scale grading system) of the aggregate in all the years of course of study and with 55% (CGPA of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system) in respect of SC/ST candidates.
ii. M. Sc. in Physics: A Bachelor’s Degree in the subject with 60% (or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.0 in the 0-10 scale grading system) of the aggregate in all the years of course of study and with 55% (CGPA of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system) in respect of SC/ST candidates.

F. PhD Programme
i) Admission to a PhD Programme shall be open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, or not less than 55% marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/university examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 5.0 or 50% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST candidates. The prescribed qualifying examination is as follows:
a. For PhD in Engineering/Technology - Master’s degree in relevant field.
b. For PhD in Science /Humanities, Social Sciences & Management - Master’s degree in relevant field.

ii) Employed professionals having experience and proven competence aspiring for PhD Programme will be considered under part-time scheme (External Registration) and will be allowed to pursue their research at their own location of work.
