Eligibility:

 

For admission to the PhD Programme in Engineering Departments, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

Master's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Medical Sciences/ Veterinary Sciences/ Pharmacy in a relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.

Bachelor's degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Medical Sciences (from other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.

 

Regular:-

A student in this category works full-time for his/her Ph.D. degree.  He/She receives assistantship from the Institute or fellowship from CSIR/UGC or any other recognized funding agency, such as NBHM, DBT, etc. Upper age limit: 28 years (as on 1st November 2009). The applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC will be allowed relaxation in the age limit as per Govt. of India rules.

 

 

Sponsored (Full-Time):-

A student in this category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, academic institution, government organization or industry for doing research in the Institute on a full-time basis.  He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. Sponsorship letter (Form-I) must be attached with the application.

 

Self-Financed:-

A student in this category works full-time or part-time towards the Ph.D. Programme. He/She must have at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. He/She must have at qualified in NET (LS) or GATE in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student.

 

Project Staff:-

This category refers to a student who is working on a sponsored project in the Institute and is admitted to the Ph.D. Programme to work on a full-time or part-time basis. The remaining duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least one year. If the project gets completed before the student completes his/her Ph.D. Programme, his/her category will be converted to that of SELF-FINANCED unless he/she is granted an assistantship/fellowship from the Institute or any other agency. No Objection Certificate (Form-II) must be attached with the application.

 

Part-Time:-

A student in this category is a professionally employed person (including the staff of IIT Patna), who pursues the Ph.D. Programme while continuing the duties of his/her service. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form-III) must be enclosed at the time of application. He/She must have at qualified in NET (including LS) or GATE in the respective field.

 

External:-

This category refers to a student employed in an R&D organization/academic institution/industry having adequate research facilities. The research work leading to the Ph.D. degree may be carried out largely in the parent organization of the candidate under a Local Supervisor from the organization but with the overall guidance provided by a faculty member (Institute Supervisor) of the Department/Centre in which he/she is registered. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A certificate from the Head of the sponsoring Institution/Organization in which he/she is employed (Form-IV) must be enclosed at the time of application.

 

Note:  The word Form used under this section refers to the forms as specified in Pages 4 to 6 of the Application Form for Admission to Ph.D. Programme.

 

Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates:

Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ ST applicants.

 

 

 

Reservations:

The reservation of seats in admissions for SC, ST, OBC categories and for Persons with Disability (PD) will be as per Government of India rules.  OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose certificate and self-declaration statement as per formats as indicated at Annexures-I and II.  

 

Financial Support:

The Institute assistantships will be available to eligible (Indian) students as per prevailing (MHRD, GOI) norms, as applicable from time to time. The present rates of assistantships are as below:  

 

BE/ BTech/ MSc/ MA equivalent with valid GATE score above the prescribed cut off level/ NET / NBHM/ DBT-JRF qualification:

1st & 2nd Year:  Rs.12, 000/- p.m.

3rd & 4th Year: Rs.14, 000/- p.m.

5th Year: Rs.15,000/- p.m.

 

ME/ MTech or equivalent:

1st & 2nd Year: Rs.14, 000/- p.m.

3rd & 4th Year #:  Rs.15,000/- p.m.

 

Note:# No assistantship will be available beyond 4th year for this category of students.

Assistantships from external funding organizations will be available as per terms and conditions of the concerned funding organizations.

Students receiving assistantships from the Institute or fellowships from any other funding agencies are required to perform academic duties as per prevailing norms.

The continuation of the assistantship/fellowship is subject to satisfactory performance of the assigned duties and satisfactory progress of the student in the Ph.D. Programme.

 

Minimum Experience required for Sponsored (Full-Time), Self-Financed, Part-Time and External Categories of Candidates:

Candidate in Sponsored, Part-time and External categories must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organisation with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field.

Candidates in Self-financed category should have at least one year of professional experience in the respective field.

WHO CAN APPLY:

Candidates should have a bachelor degree under 10+2+3 pattern/ a degree in Agriculture, Technology, Medicine, Education or law/ a post graduate degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate from any University/Institution recognized by AIU/AICTE.  For SC/ST candidates, 45% marks is required. 	О   AMC / ADC officers presently serving with Navy or Air Force who have served Army for more than 10 years and who are members of AOBF. (Submit Certificate No 3)
	О   MNS Officers who have served Army for a minimum 10 years as regular MNS; APS personnel who are on deputation and have put in more than 10 years of service in Army or who have been directly recruited / commissioned in APS and have retired after completing their minimum service qualifying for pension; TA personnel who have completed 10 years of embodied service. •	Educational Qualification. Minimum 50% aggregate marks in :-

•    Physical Fitness. The candidate should be certified by MH / RMO / Registered Medical Practitioner as physically and mentally fit to pursue the course. A certificate to this effect is required to be submitted by the candidate when the candidate joins the institute.

Army Institute of Management, Kolkata (AIMK) was established in July 1997 by the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), New Delhi. Business India has ranked AIMK as 'A+' Category B-School in India in 2009.

 

Eligibility: Bachelor's Degree with 50% Marks in aggregate in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.  Candidates completing all requirements for obtaining the Bachelor's Degree by June 2010 may also apply.

 

Intake: Present batch size is 120 (80% seats for Army wards and 20% seats for General category)
