IIT Gandhinagar is looking for bright and dedicated young scholars interested in research to join us as Ph.D. scholars. Currently, we offer Ph.D. programmes in Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Cognitive Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Earth Sciences, Electrical Engineering, English, Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Social Epidemiology, Sociology and South Asian Studies. Prospective students satisfying the eligibility criteria are encouraged to acquaint themselves with the research areas of our faculty members for suitable match of interest. IIT Gandhinagar also offers a Start Early Ph.D. Fellowship with additional financial support for exceptionally qualified undergraduate students wishing to start on a direct Ph.D. programme.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria
At least 55% marks or 5.5 CPI marks in M.A./M.Sc./B.Tech./ M.Tech. or equivalent degree in appropriate branches. Above mentioned eligibility criteria is minimum and the disciplines may use higher cut off levels for short listing. Course Work Requirement
IIT Gandhinagar strongly believes in value addition through course work. There is a significant number of course work a Ph.D. student needs to do depending on his/her background.

Residential Requirement
Ph.D. programme is fully residential. The regular candidates will have to stay on campus. For external candidate the minimum residential requirement is normally one year. For candidates under Faculty Development Program, currently 2 years of residency requirement after completion of 1 year of advanced admission is followed.

Admission Categories
Regular(RR): Fulltime residential research candidate.

External (ET): Candidates serving in research institutions/industry. External candidates may furnish their employers consent (see Annexure 1) at the time of interview. The candidates under this category may require an additional supervision at their parent institutions.

Faculty Development Program (FDP): Candidates working as a faculty in any educational institution. In this category the candidate is given advance admission with 90 days of residency requirement in 1st year and on successful completion of 1st year, 2 years of residency to complete the program. A certificate in support of the candidature must support the application (see Annexure 2).

The Institute may club together the External and Faculty Development Programs to a Continuing Doctoral Programme, with one year of residency requirement in the first phase and at least two weeks of residency in the Institute per semester. The program may also provide an opportunity for advance admission with a preparatory period of one year.

Financial Support
Students joining the Ph.D. program as regulars (RR) will be considered for Institute Fellowship based on the following norms:

Students with B.E./ B.Tech. / B.Arch / B.Sc.(Engg)/ M.Sc. / M.A. / M.Com. degrees or equivalent, who have qualified GATE or National Level test (UGC / CSIR / NBHM / DBT etc.), will be considered for monthly assistantship of Rs.16000/- for the first 2 years and enhanced rate of Rs.18000/- for the remaining 3 years.

Students with M.Tech. / M.E. / M.Arch. / M.Sc.(Engg) or equivalent/ M.Phil./ M.B.B.S / MD / MS degrees and Management students with a combination of M.B.A. and Engineering/ Technical background will be considered for monthly assistantships of Rs. 18000/- for the first 2 years and enhanced rate of Rs.20000/- for the remaining 2 years.

Full time PhD students are encouraged to present their research work at international conferences. Financial support of up to Rs. 2.00 Lakhs for the entire duration of the programme is available. Additional funding may also be provided.

Over and above the monthly assistantship, an additional fellowship of Rs. 5,000/- per month is provided to the candidates ranking within the top 5% in any relevant National level qualifying examination. Candidates who have obtained at least one of their previous degrees from a premier institution like IIT, IISc etc. can be considered for an additional fellowship of Rs. 10,000/- per month.

Candidates joining for the Ph.D. program through start early Ph.D. fellowship will receive an additional fellowship of Rs. 10,000/- per month in case GATE qualified. Payment of assistantship is subjected to a candidate complying with the prescribed norms and work output.

Admission Procedure
Admission is generally offered on the basis of an interview, which is supplemented by a written test if necessary. The candidates called for the Test / Interview will be reimbursed any amount exceeding Rs.400/- for to and fro single second-sleeper class railway fare by the shortest route from their place of residence to the Institute /venue of the Test / Interview. For example, in case of total railway fare of Rs.1000/- the candidate will be reimbursed Rs.600/-. It is required to produce evidence (railway ticket) in support of the claim.

GENERAL INFORMATION
1. The candidate should fill his/ her application form available on the PGI website i.e. http://pgimer.edu.in.  He/She should fill all the fields of the form. No fields should be left blank. After filling application form the candidate should deposit the application fee through challan form (Triplicate) in any branch of SBI.
2. Candidates can go to any Branch of State Bank of India with the fee Payment Challan duly filled in and pay the prescribed Application Fee in the “Power Jyoti” PUL current account of PGIMER. The Challan form is required to be filled up in the name of Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh (Examination) in the Power Jyoti Account No. 32211613319 and those candidates who have SBI account can also pay their fee through i-collect service of SBI and I-collect Account No. is 32222954695. In that case the INB reference No. will have to be mentioned instead of Challan No. in the application form. The fees for GENERAL/ OBC/OPH candidates is Rs.1000/- and for SC/ST Rs.800/- (indicating category i.e. General or SC/ST). However, the fees for DM/M.Ch examination is Rs.1000/-. (The candidates should write his/her Name, Address, contact number and course name in which he /she apply, on the back side of Challan form).
3. The candidate should ensure that they submit the OFFLINE application immediately after payment of fees, since the same is non-refundable. No representation/ request/ demand for refund of application fees will be entertained if the candidate fails to apply within the stipulated time after payment of application fee.
4. The application along with copies of certificates duly attested in support of educational qualification(s), experience, age/date of birth certificate, caste certificate, Fresh OBC certificate, challan form and NOC from the present employer, if employed should be sent through Registered Post or Speed Post to the Professor In-Charge, Academic Section, PGIMER, Sector-12, Chandigarh-160012. The application received through Courier/ Ordinary Postal Dak etc. are not acceptable. The PGIMER will not be responsible for any postal delay.
5. The candidates completing internship after 31.12.2013 are not eligible for course No. 1, 2 and 3.
6. The number of seats wherever indicated are provisional and may increase/decrease without any prior notice.
7. A candidate can apply only for one subject/ specialty.
8. Incomplete applications will not be entertained and no correspondence will be made in this regard.
9. In case the last date of receipt of application is declared holiday, the last date for receipt of the same will be considered as next working day.

Two courses are being offered by CUTS Institute for Regulation & Competition (CIRC) and National Law University, Delhi (NLUD).

Certificate Course on Competition Policy and Law
Diploma Course on Competition Policy and Law
The Certificate Course in Competition Policy and Law is a fundamental course dealing primarily with markets and business laws, competition policy and law, in general, and the Competition Act, 2002 as amended in detail. The certificate course also covers fundamentals of Economics essential for studying competition law.

The Diploma Course in Competition Policy and Law is an advanced course dealing, in detail, with topics related to abuse of dominance, anti-competitive agreements, and regulation of combination across select jurisdictions.. The participants of Diploma course are exposed to emerging issues such as: interface between IPRs and competition law, cross border issues, and issues related to business strategy.

The courses, duly accredited by the National Law University, Delhi, are designed to deliver knowledge and skills relating to Competition Policy and Law to the participants and open up new employment opportunities in Competition Authorities, Regulatory Bodies, Law Firms, Businesses, Research Bodies, etc.


Eligibility
The following criteria will be followed while admitting participants to both the courses:

A Graduate in any discipline from a university/institution recognised by the UGC or any other regulatory body.
OR
A student in final year of graduation in any discipline from a university/institution recognised by the UGC or any other regulatory body (Subject to successful completion of graduation within specified timeline).
OR
A student who has completed first three years of graduation of a five year integrated programme
OR
An International student who has graduated from a recognized university. (Regarding the recognition status of the foreign university, the student should produce the relevant document/declaration at the time of admission, and such admissions will be subject to due approval).

Scholarships: A total of 05 (five) scholarships (worth 30% fee waiver to each student in the course fee) shall be available in  every intake.  The selection of participants for the scholarship shall be made jointly by CIRC and NLUD on need cum merit basis

Fee waiver of 30% will be provided to a total 05 (five) NLUD students every intake in the Course. The decision regarding the selection of students for the fee waiver will be taken jointly by CIRC and NLUD on need cum merit basis.

For full-time staff members of CIRC and NLUD, every intake, will be a total of 05 (five) scholarships amounting to 50% fee waiver to each student.

National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) will select candidates through following channels for admissions to Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes for the year 2014.

1. Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Science (JGEEBILS).
2. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2013/GATE-2014).
3. Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST-2014).
4. CSIR (JRF) (Chemistry) (2013-14 batch)

Candidates will be short-listed for a two-tier interview based on their performance in the JGEEBILS examination or their score in the GATE/JEST/CSIR(JRF)(Chemistry) examination.

Eligibility:
Ph.D.(NEUROSCIENCE)
Master's degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences/Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer applications/Pharmacy/Veterinary Science/Psychology from a recognized Institute/University or A minimum of four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering/Technology/Medicine from a recognized Institute/University.
Candidates appearing for final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.
Only the candidates with at least 55% (for SC/ST/PH candidates, 50%) marks or equivalent grade from secondary (10th) examination onwards will be considered. Candidates should calculate their percentage up to two decimal points without rounding off to determine their eligibility.

Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. (NEUROSCIENCE)
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences/ Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer applications/ Pharmacy/ Veterinary Science/ Psychology/ Engineering/ Technology/ Medicine from a recognized Institute/University.
Candidates appearing for final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.

Candidates for both Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. courses have to appear for the same entrance test which will be conducted on Sunday, December 8, 2013.

NBRC will accept applications from GATE qualified candidates (with 85 percentile or more in GATE 2013/2014) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Engineering, Computer Scienceand Information Technology and Instrumentation Engineering only for its Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes.
These candidates should apply to NBRC with their GATE score. The application can be submitted online or by post.
