Orissa Maritime Academy, Paradip Port (Orissa) - 754142 has invited applications for admission into Pre-sea General Purpose Rating course (Merchant Navy's Crew Training).

Applicant should have passed 10th class with 40% aggregate and 40% in English in 10th or +2 level and should be 17½ years to 25 years of age as on date of admission. Eye-sight must be 6/6 in both eyes and without colour blindness. Applicant should have height of 158 cm and weight of 48 kg.

The course duration is 6 months. The course commences on 1st July, 2009. The course fee is Rs.50, 000/- inclusive of uniform, lodging, boarding and tuition fees. In addition, STCW course fees to be paid directly by candidates.

The last date of receipt of application is 21st May 2009. The intake capacity of the Academy is 40(forty) per batch. The short listed (eligible) candidates will be called to the Academy for selection. In the selection procedure, the candidate has to undergo a medical test. In order to ascertain the merit of the candidates, the Academy may conduct a written and viva-voce test in English.

The Institute imparts professional training in the area of Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology and Special Education (Hearing Impairment). It also provides clinical & rehabilitation services for persons with hearing impairment and communication disorders and is engaged in research and developmental activities.

The Courses and Eligibility are as follows.

Master of Education (Hearing Impairment) M.Ed (HI): B.Ed (HI) or any other equivalent Degree from a recognized University with 50% aggregate marks/B.Ed. (SE-DE) (HI) with 50% aggregate marks and one year teaching experience/B.Ed. (Gen) with 50% aggregate marks and D.Ed(HI)/ DSE(HI) with 50% aggregate marks. (One Year Course, Mumbai).

Master of Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology: Bachelor of Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology or any equivalent Degree recognized by the respective Universities and RCI (including internship). Internship is mandatory for applicants who have completed Bachelor in Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology after May/June 2001 (Two Years; Mumbai, Kolkata).

Bachelor of Education (Hearing Impairment): Offered at Mumbai where the eligibility is Three year Degree course and at Kolkata where the eligibility is a Degree in any discipline from any recognized University. (One year Course).

Bachelor of Audiology and Speech - Language Pathology:  Pre-University exam of any recognized University in India or equivalent of 10+2/ HSC in India or abroad. For Mumbai center the subject combination needed is Physics, Mathematics with one of Biology/Chemistry/Computer Science or Physics, Biology with one of Mathematics/Chemistry/Computer Science. For Kolkata, the eligibility is Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English and any other 5th subject. Also offered at New Delhi (4 year Course)

Diploma in Hearing, Language & Speech: 10+2 passed with PCB/PCM or its equivalent. (One Year Course offered Kolkata, New Delhi and Bhubaneswar).

Diploma in Education Special Education (Hearing Impairment): 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized Board of education with minimum 45% marks (General Category)/ 40% (SC/ST/PH). Two year course, Offered at Kolkata, New Delhi, Bhubaneshwar.

Diploma in Sign Language Interpreter Course: Carries a stipend of Rs. 2,000/- p.m. 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized Board of education. Preference will be given to more qualified candidates. One year course offered at Mumbai, Kolkata and New Delhi. Candidates appearing in Class 10 + 2 in 2009 can also apply for courses for which 10+2 is the eligibility. .

The Central Institute of Fisheries, Nautical & Engineering Training (CIFNET), Fine Art Avenue, Kochi-682 016, has invited applications for admission to the 2 - year Vessel Navigator Course (VNC) and Marine Fitter Course (MFC) which are two new trade courses started by NCTV under Craftsman Training Scheme by DGET, Ministry of Labour, New Delhi.

The courses aim at producing practical tradesmen in the Marine Sector and manpower for the deck side and engine side of the fishing vessels.  There are 16 seats for each course at Cochi (Fine Arts Avenue, Kochi-682016) and at the Units at Chennai (No 59, SN Street, Royapuram, Chennai-600013) and Vishakapatnam (Post Box No 191, Beach Road, Vishakapatnam-530001)

Applicant should have passed the 10th Standard or equivalent examination with 50% marks in Mathematics and Science and should be 16 to 20 years of age as on 1.8.2009. Upper age limit is relaxable up to 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

Candidates should be physically fit for strenuous work on board fishing vessels. In the case of Vessel Navigator Course, the candidates should pass the prescribed eye test conducted by approved Doctors of DG Shipping before admission.

Open Selection candidates who submit a Surety Bond for Rs.10,000/- at the time of admission are eligible for a monthly stipend of Rs.700/- Selection will be based on an Entrance Examination to be conducted by CIFNET at Kochi, Chennai and Vishakpatnam from 10 am to 12 noon on 21.6.2009. The Examination will be of the descriptive type and will cover Mathematics, Science Subjects and English Language.
