Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) Jais, Rae Bareli, U.P. has been set up as an Autonomous Institute under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. RGIPT is promoted by leading six Oil PSUs in India (ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL and HPCL), in association with Oil Industries Development Board (OIDB) as an Institute of National Importance established under Act 54/2007 of the Parliament of India. RGIPT is positioned as a World Class Institute with an objective to cater to the growing demand of professionals for hydrocarbon chain in India and abroad. RGIPT has already started its B.Tech (Petroleum Production & Reservoir Engineering, and Petroleum Refining Engineering) and MBA (Petroleum & Energy Management) during 2008-2009. World Class Laboratory and Library facilities are in the process of development. Accommodation for boys’ and girls’ are being provided by the institute. The Post Graduate programmes for M.Tech. and Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering for the session 2008-2009 will start from January, 2009.


General information for the candidates:

A. M.Tech. in Petroleum Engineering.
The programme will start from January, 2009. Full time, regular students who have qualified GATE and have been admitted will be eligible for assistantship. Sponsored candidates (from Government Organisations / Public Sector Organisations / Other industries) may also be considered for admission, but no financial assistance will be provided to such candidates. They do not require GATE score. They should have at least 2 years of work experience.

B. Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering (Registration open all year round).

C. The following types of students will be considered for admission
a) Regular (Full Time).

The students should have cleared GATE. Such students will receive institute assistantship.
b) Sponsored (Full Time)
Sponsored candidates (from Government Organisations/Public Sector Organizations/Other
industries) may also be considered after their interviews, but no financial assistance will be provided to such candidates. They should have at least 2 years of work experience.
c) Part-time students
Those who are employed in reputed institutes or in oil industries and have acquired a minimum of three years of experience can also apply for the registration as Part-Time Ph.D. students at RGIPT.
d) External candidates with atleast 3 years of experience in Government Organizations / Public Sector Organizations / Other industries having adequate research facilities may be considered.

In such cases the research work should be of interest to RGIPT and should be separate from the candidate’s regular work for the organization where the candidate is employed. Such candidates should work under a Supervisor within his parent organization and the overall guidance will be provided by the major guide from RGIPT under whom the candidate should register for Ph.D. No financial assistance will be provided to such candidates. Such applications may be accepted during any time of the year.

D. Minimum Requirements:
For M. Tech (Petroleum Engineering):
B.Tech degree in Petroleum/Chemical/Mechanical
Engineering with 65% marks or CPI of 6.5, and a valid GATE score. Sponsored candidates do not need a GATE score.


For PhD (Engineering):
a) M.Tech degree in Petroleum/ Chemical/ Mechanical Engineering with 65% marks or CPI of 7.0 .
b) B.Tech/B.E. Degree in above areas with 70%marks or CPI of 8.0 (for direct admission to PhD)


E. Fee Structure:
1) For Regular/ Full time Students
M.Tech Tuition Fee : Rs. 30,000 (Thirty thousand) per semester. Other fees: Rs. 5,000 (Five thousand) per semester. Refundable deposit: Rs. 10,000 (only once, at the time of registration). The hostel charges (rent, food, transport to academic building, etc. are not included in the above. These will be between Rs. 4,000 and 5,000 per month.
Ph.D Tuition Fee : Rs. 30,000 (Thirty thousand) per semester. Other fees: Rs. 5,000 per semester. Other details as for M.Tech above

2) For other Students
M.Tech/ Ph.D Tution Fee : Rs. 50,000 per semester. Other fee as mentioned for M.Tech regular students remains same.

F. Financial Assistantship (Only for GATE Qualified regular/ Fulltime students):
M.Tech: Rs. 8,000 p.m. (Eight thousand)
Ph.D.: Rs. 15,000 p.m. (Fifteen thousand)


IMPORTANT DATES AND INFORMATION:
Last Date of Receipt of Application Forms for M. Tech: 3rd December, 2008.
(For PhD, one can apply anytime during the year.)
Short Listing of Candidates and informing them: 5th December, 2008.
Interview of the Candidates: 17th December, 2008.
Notification of Results of Selection: 19th December, 2008.
Commencement of Programmes: 5th January, 2009 at Rae Bareli.


How to Apply:
The application forms may be downloaded from the website www.rgipt.ac.in and the duly filled up application form may be submitted along with a demand Draft of Rs. 1000/- in favor of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, payable at New Delhi (Not Rae Bareli) to the Director, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Ratapur Chowk, Rae Bareli – 229 316, U.P. Please SUPERSCRIBE the envelope with the type of student against which application is made, like Regular (Full Time) or Sponsored (Full Time) etc. No TA/DA is admissible for attending the Interview.

Please note that just because a candidate has cleared GATE, does not imply that he/she will be called for interview. The Admissions Committee will evaluate each application based on performance in GATE, and all through the education programme undertaken thus far.
