Punjab Joint Entrance Test Notification 2010


INTRODUCTION

The Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training is an autonomous body created under the Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training Act, 1992. The Board conducts Joint Entrance Test (JET) for admissions to various diploma courses being run in the institutions affiliated to the Board. This year the test will be conducted on 22nd May, 2010(Saturday).

This prospectus gives detailed information relating to the procedures and other conditions for JET-2010 and Admissions. Candidates are advised to carefully go through all the parts of prospectus before applying for JET and they must retain this prospectus with them till the admission process is over.


2. THE JET EXAMINATION DETAILS
a) The JET will be conducted by the Board for admission to various diploma courses listed at page 20 which are being offered or are proposed to be offered in the Institutions listed at page 21. The details regarding the number of seats for which admissions are to be made in different institutions and courses can be seen at page 42-49. The Notification issued by Punjab Government, Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training may be referred to in this connection (reproduced in part -IV of the prospectus).

b) The admission to institutions will be based on the relative merit of the candidates in the JET in their respective category. Reservation shall be as per reservation policy of Government of Punjab/UT Chandigarh.

c) SCHEDULE : The JET will be conducted as per the schedule given below :

22/05/2010 (Saturday) between 10.00 am to 1.00 pm The candidates must reach the examination centre by 9.30 am. In case there is any change in the date of the JET, the same will be notified through the Newspapers.

d) SYLLABUS : The syllabus for this test is broadly based upon the syllabus prescribed for Matriculation Examination (i.e. 9th and 10th classes) of Punjab School Education Board. Subject wise details of syllabus for JET-2010 are given in part-II of the Prospectus.

e) EXAMINATION SCHEME : JET-2010 will have one paper of 200 questions (English-25, Aptitude-25, Mathematics- 50, Physics-50, Chemistry-50). The unit wise allocation of marks is given alongwith syllabus. The question paper will be printed both in English and Punjabi. The question paper will have multiple choice objective type questions only. There will be negative marking in the JET @ 25% for each incorrect response. The objective type questions shall be answered on a preprinted Optical Mark Reader (OMR) answer sheet. The candidate is required to mark his/her responses as per instructions given on the OMR answer sheet. Examples from Model test papers are given on pages 26-32.

f ) EXAMINATION CENTRES : The JET will be conducted at the places mentioned below. The exact location of the Examination Centre at these places will be intimated in the Admit Card, which shall be issued to the candidates on acceptance of their Application Form by the Board


3. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The test shall be open to candidates who have passed the Matriculation or equivalent examination in Mathematics, Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) and English, provided that a candidate who has appeared for the qualifying examination but whose result has not been declared shall be admitted provisionally to the Joint Entrance Test but his/her candidature shall be cancelled if he/she fails to qualify in the examination or fails to produce the proof of his having qualified at the time of counselling. Such candidates will have no claim,whatsoever, with regard to the admission to any course. 4. PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING FOR THE JET

A) AVAILABILITY OF PROSPECTUS :
The JET Prospectus-cum-Application Form can be obtained from the office of the Board or Polytechnic Institutions or designated branches of Punjab National Bank / HDFC Bank as mentioned at page 2-7 of the prospectus by making a payment of Rs. 250/- at the counter.

Candidates may obtain JET-Prospectus by post also by sending a demand draft of Rs. 300/- in favour of the "Secretary, Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training" payable at "Chandigarh", which should preferably reach the office of the Board atleast ten days before the last date of receipt of application form. The candidate must write his/her name, father's or mother's name and address on the reverse of the bank draft. However, the Board shall not be responsible for any postal delay. Any request made to the Bank for supply of Prospectus by post shall not be entertained. In case copies of JET-Prospectus are sold out before the last date at any of the places listed at page 2-7 then the same may be obtained from the office of the Board at Chandigarh.


b) SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORM
The JET Application Form(also referred to as OMR Form) complete in all respects should be enclosed in the envelop supplied with the prospectus and deposited at a designated Bank branch listed at page 2-6. The examination fee should be paid in cash @ Rs. 520/- (for General and other categories) and Rs. 260/- (for SC/ST) along with the application form in one of the bank branches of Punjab National Bank / HDFC Bank. In case the application form is sent by post/courier, it should be accompained by Demand Draft of Rs. Rs. 520/- (for General and other categories) and Rs. 260/- (for SC/ST) drawn in the favour of "Secretary, Punjab State Board of Technical Education & Industrial Training" payable at "Chandigarh". However, candidates are advised to submit the forms at the bank branches and get the required acknowledgment.

The candidates are advised to retain with them the photocopies of the filled Application Forms/Bank draft/ postal receipt/acknowledgement receipt.

CAUTION : JET APPLICATION FORM SUPPLIED ALONG WITH THIS PROSPECTUS IS TO BE DECODED BY A COMPUTER BASED MACHINE. THEREFORE, THE CANDIDATES ARE ADVISED TO PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TOWARDS FILLING OF THE OMR APPLICATION FORM. CANDIDATES ARE ADVISED TO READ INSTRUCTIONS AT PAGES 16 TO 19 TO UNDERSTAND THE CORRECT METHOD FOR FILLING UP THE FORM.


c) REGARDING DUPLICATE ADMIT CARD
Candidates who do not receive the Admit Card by 18th May, 2010, may contact Board's office on 19,20 and 21 May for issue of Duplicate Admit Cards. Admit Card can only be issued after showing photocopy of the submitted Application Form and acknowledgement slip from the Bank or proof of having posted the Application Form in time. However, the Board reserves the right of not issuing duplicate Admit Card if in the opinion of the Board such an issue is not justified. A copy of the Admit Card is also available in the Board's websites. Candidates, who do not receive Admit Card by post, can take a print out from websites and proceed to the Examination centre alongwith a copy of the passport size photograph.

5. GENERAL INFORMATION
i) For appearing in JET, the candidate has to submit the original OMR Application Form which has been supplied by the Board along with the Prospectus. A photocopy of this form is not valid.

ii) The candidate must fill the application form in his/her own hand writing.
iii) Incomplete OMR Application Form is liable to be rejected.
iv) All the applicants are advised to check the Board's website for confirmation of the receipt of their application form.

v) Candidates who do not receive the Admit Card in atleast 7 days before the examination date, should contact the Registrar of the Board with photo copy of the submitted

Candidates are advised to read all Parts i.e. Part I, II, III and IV of the prospectus carefully before submitting the Application Form.

Any change in the schedule of examination / admissions will be notified through press / website.

Reservations of seats in the affiliated institutions in Punjab shall be as per the policy of Government of Punjab, and for the institutes located at Chandigarh the reservation shall be as per the policy of Chandigarh Administration. The seat break up given in this prospectus is tentative which may be altered or corrected in consequence of the change in number of seats by AICTE/Govt.

The contents in Punjabi are a translation of the English text. For any difference, the English version shall prevail.

The schedule of on-line counseling shall be notified through the Newspaper. No separate intimation letters will be sent to qualified candidates. Admissions are likely to be held in July' 2010.

Candidates must keep this prospectus with them till the process of admission is completed.

Candidates who have qualified the JET-2010 and desire to seek admission must register on the counseling websites as per the counseling schedule.
