The Singapore-Stanford Biodesign (SSB) Fellowship seeks to train and nurture the next generation of Asian medical device innovators in Singapore, serving Asia and beyond.

This highly competitive programme is directed towards creative and entrepreneurial Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents who have a strong interest in invention and early-stage development of new medical technologies.

Programme

The SSB Fellowship will offer intensive hands-on training in the basics of medical device innovation, with a focus on Asian clinical needs and markets. The SSB Fellows will be trained on aspects such as identification and verification of clinical needs, brainstorming, invention, prototyping and business plan development, under a multidisciplinary team setup comprising of engineers, clinicians and business/industry professionals. They will also learn patenting basics, early-stage testing, regulatory and reimbursement, financing and project implementation.

The SSB Fellows will examine clinical needs within the Singapore and/or regional clinical setting and identify opportunities for medical technology innovation. They will then invent, prototype, develop and patent one or more new technologies. During the Fellowship, the team will also be mentored by "real-world" experts from the medical technology, legal and venture capital industries both in the United States and Singapore.

Financial Support

The SSB Fellows will receive stipend, tuition and international travel support.

Successful applicants should have advanced degrees (e.g. Master, Ph.D., M.D., M.B.B.S.) and/or significant industry work experience.
