Applications are invited by Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-Kanpur) for admission for the session commencing from July 2012 in the following programmes:
I. MTech & PhD (Engineering):
Aerospace * Biological Sciences & Bio-Engg * Chemical * Civil * Computer Science & Engg * Electrical * Industrial and Management Engg (all areas of Management) * Materials Science & Engg. * Materials Science * Mechanical * Nuclear Engg and Technology.
II. PhD (Sciences):
Chemistry * Mathematics & Statistics * Physics
III. PhD (Humanities & Social Sciences):
Economics * English (Literature and Linguistics) * Philosophy * Psychology * Sociology
IV. MTech: Environmental Engineering & Management * Laser Technology
V. MDes: Design
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD:
(Engineering) MTech / ME / MSc(Engg.) degree in the respective or allied area. The candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or Master’s degree in Sciences in an allied area with exceptional academic record and possessing a valid GATE score may also apply. For PhD in BSBE, candidates with MBBS, BPharma or MPharma Degree may also apply. Candidates with Master’s degree in Management may apply for PhD in Industrial and Management Engineering (IME).
PhD (Sciences & HSS):
MSc / MA degree in respective or allied area with a valid GATE / UGC / CSIR score. For PhD in Economics, Mathematics at +2 level is required.
MTech:
BTech / BE / BSc(Engg.) / MSc in respective or allied area with a valid GATE / UGC / CSIR score; BTech graduates from IITs with an overall minimum CGPA of 6.5 and a CGPA of 8.0 during the last two semesters in BTech may apply without a GATE score (such candidates will, however, be not eligible for Assistantship if CGPA is below 8.0).
For MTech in Biological Sciences and Bio Engineering, candidates with MBBS or BPharma Degree are also considered.
Eligibility for a specialization within a Department may depend on the candidate’s choice of test paper in GATE.
MDes:
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Design or Architecture with a valid GATE / CEED score.

The application fee of Rs. 200/- for candidates in General / OBC / PD and Rs. 100/- for SC / ST must be paid through demand draft payable to The Registrar, IIT Kanpur at Kanpur.
Copies of the following items should be enclosed with the filled-in application forms:
1. Date of Birth (DOB) Certificate or High School (Class Ten) Certificate with DOB (Required for all candidates)
2. SC / ST / OBC Certificate if applicable (Item 13)
3. Certificate of Physical Status (Type of disability to be attached).
4. Sponsorship certificate for sponsored candidates. (Item 15)
5. GATE / CSIR / UGC score card (Item 17 A)
6. Copies of mark / grade sheets (Items 17 B & 17C)
7. No Objection / relieving Certificate from employer (for employed candidates)
8. The Demand draft for the application fee of Rs. 200/- or Rs. 100/- as applicable
9. Two letters of reference (for PhD applicants only)
10. One self-addressed envelope of 23cm x10cm.
