NOTIFICATION



Applications are invited for admission to the following courses offered in affiliated colleges for the academic year 2011-2012.

Duration of the course   
For all the above mentioned courses, the duration is for a period of 3 years consisting of 6 semesters. 

Eligibility
Candidate with a pass in Plus Two or equivalent examinations recognized by the University, irrespective of streams /subjects are eligible for admission to the course. 
(Only female candidates need apply for the B.Sc. Apparel and Fashion Design programme, since the course is offered in a women’s College). 

Bonus marks for (i) for participation in in NCC/NSS (ii) for Ex- Servicemen applicants and widows and children of Jawans / Ex-Servicemen will be given as per the existing rules of admission. Reservation for candidates with outstanding records in sports and games shall be allowed as per rules. 3%of the seats under Merit quota are reserved for physically challenged candidates. 

How and When to apply : 
Application forms can be downloaded from the website of the Mahatma Gandhi University  www.mgu.ac.in from 23.07.2012 onwards. Registration fee of Rs. 350/- (Rs.150/-for SC/ST candidates) shall be remitted at the cash counter of the University or at FRIENDS JANASEVANAKENDRAM or or by way of M.G.University Chalan from State Bank of Travancore. Application fee can also be remitted by way of DD drawn in favour of the Finance officer, Mahatma Gandhi University payable at SBT, M.G University Campus Branch (code No. 669). Fee once remitted shall not be refunded under any circumstances. Since the admission to the above courses under merit and management categories is based on a common rank list prepared by the University, the candidates are required to submit applications in the office of the Assistant Registrar (Acad II), M.G. University, Priyadarsini Hills, Kottayam PIN 686 560.  However, admission to management seats shall be made by the management concerned from the rank list irrespective of the rank secured by the candidate.  A self- addressed   stamped envelope shall be enclosed along with the application. 

 The last date for receipt of filled in application is 27.07.2012. 

Mode of  selection  
 Admission to the programme and colleges mentioned above will be on centralized process based on an entrance test which is mandatory for all candidates. The selection will be based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination and the entrance test. 

The entrance test is of one hour duration consisting of objective type multiple choice questions each of which carries four choices. Since the test is conducted on objective basis, there will not be provision for revaluation.

Subject areas included for the entrance tests : 
General awareness, creative aptitude and General English. 

Centre of Entrance Test
There will be only one Examination Centre for the Entrance Test. The venue for the entrance test will be mentioned in the Admission Ticket. 

Classification of Seats
In unaided courses 50% of the seats shall be filled by the managements from among the candidates of their choice from the rank list prepared by the University and the remaining seats(50%) will be Merit Seats. 65% of the Merit Seats shall be filled on general merit and 35% shall be filled by candidates belonging to  SC/ST and other backward ommunities in the order of merit with the following quota for each community. 

Scheduled Caste - 8% 
Scheduled Tribe - 2% 
Ezhava, Thiyya & Billavan - 9% 
Muslim - 8% 
Latin Catholic other than Anglo Indians - 2% 
Other Backward Christian - 1% 
Other Backward Hindus - 5% 
Lapsed seats, if any, under merit quota shall be filled in by the management concerned.

Centralized Allotment Process
Admission /Allotment of seats under merit quota are governed by a Centralized Allotment Process. Selection/ Allotment of a candidate to any college will be based on the rank of the candidate and the availability of the seats. While a reserved category candidate entitled to admission on the basis of his/her merit will have the option of taking admission to the colleges where a specified number of seats have been kept reserved for reserved category but while computing the percentage of reservation he/she will be deemed to have been admitted as an open category candidate and not as a reserved category candidate. Admission memo will be issued to the selected candidates after the Centralized Allotment Process. It is obligatory for the candidates to report to the college to which he/she is selected. Failure to appear before the Principal concerned for joining the course on the specified date and time will result in the forfeiture of his/her candidature and he/she will not be considered for any vacancies arising in future. Vacancies arising after the first round of allotment of seats will be filled up according to the rank of the candidate and reservation norms. Options exercised at the time of counseling will be final and the candidate is bound to accept the allotment as per the options. There will be no mutual transfer between the candidates from one college to another.
