Master of Public Health (Field Epidemiology) Course 2013

1. COURSE OFFERED
The course offered is Master of Public Health (Field Epidemiology) (MPH (FE))*. The duration of the course is two years, comprising four semesters; normally the course starts in the month of August. It is a full time course.
*Candidates with MBBS degree recognized by MCI and MPH (FE) from NCDC and two years of experience of Epidemiology work at district health facilities/health facilities/ hospitals will be allowed to appear for final examination of DNB (Epidemiology, new rules). The candidates be clearly informed that the DNB(Epidemiology , new rules), being offered as above is not included in the first schedule of the Medical Council of India Act and not recognized by MCI.

2. TENTATIVE DATE OF ANNOUNCEMENT OF COURSE
In Jan./Feb. every year. The announcement is made by the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi. Candidates are advised to refer to www.ipu.ac.in for admission notice etc.

3. TOTAL SEATS
The total Intake is 20 seats (including) 2 WHO sponsored seats. Admission to 18 seats will be through selection on the basis of an entrance test to be conducted by the GGSIP University. 11 (60%) of seats out of 18 seats are reserved for in–service candidates. In case any seat for in-service candidate remains vacant, it can be filled by direct category candidates and vice versa.

4. ELIGIBILITY
Candidates possessing MBBS degree from any recognized University. The course is open to both Fresh as well as In-service MBBS Graduates.
In-service personnel with MBBS working in health institutions/organizations in Central/State governments or Public Sector having 5 years’ experience, of which at least 3 years should be in public health activities are eligible. Such candidates, at the time of counseling for admission, would need to furnish a letter from their employer that, if they are admitted, they would be relieved for two years for undertaking the course on a full-time basis at NCDC.

5. AGE LIMIT
The upper age limit is 45 years for in-service candidates and 35 years for others as on Aug. 1of the relevant year.

6. PROCESS OF SELECTION OF CANDIDATES
The course is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi. Common Entrance Test is conducted by University. Both Direct as well as in-service candidates have to appear in the Admission Test.

7. SUBJECTS OF ENTRANCE TEST
Section I: General Aptitude
Section II: Allied Health Sciences (Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology & Entomology)
Section III: Public Health
Syllabus for the Entrance Test will be graduate level aimed at testing the candidates understanding. The following topics will give an idea of coverage:
General Aptitude
Tests of comprehension, analysis, reasoning, etc.
Allied Health Sciences
Immunology; Clinical biochemistry; Molecular diagnosis; Basic Genetics; Nutrition and Metabolism; Laboratory aspects of water -borne and vector-borne diseases; vaccinepreventable diseases; Acute Respiratory Infections including influenza, SARS and Tuberculosis; Zoonosis; Public health laboratory; Chemical and bacteriological quality of water; Fluorosis and Arsenicosis; Arthropods of public health importance; Vector bionomics & ecology and Bio-environmental vector control.
Public Health
Concept of health and disease; Screening for diseases; Communicable and non-communicable diseases; Hospital-acquired infections; Nutrition-deficiency conditions including micronutrient malnutrition; Demography and family welfare; Social sciences and health ; Environment and health; Disaster Management; Biostatistics; Health planning and management; National Health Policy and National Health Programmes.

8. RESERVATION OF SEATS
Tentative Policy of Reservation of seats would be as follows: Reservation will be as per Government/University norms - 27% for Other Backward Classes; 15% for Scheduled Castes; 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes; 5% for Defence category and 3% for Physically Handicapped Candidates.


Central Govt. Reservation policy will be followed as the Institute is owned and managed by the Central Government.
