Admission Notice 2015


Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata has invited applications for admission to the following courses of Academic Session 2015-16 through Admission Test scheduled to be conducted on Sunday, 10 May 2015:

Courses and the desired qualifications are as follows (Candidates who are due to complete the qualifying examinations before 01 July 2014 may also apply):
1. 3-year BStat (Hons.): Successful completion of 10+2 years of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent with Mathematics and English. Stipend Rs. 3000/- per month. (Offered at Kolkata).


2. 3-year BMath (Hons.): Successful completion of 10+2 years of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent with Mathematics and English. Stipend Rs. 3000/- per month. (Offered at Bangalore).

Candidates for the above two programmes, who have successfully cleared the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad test, conducted by the National Board for Higher Mathematics, Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India, need not sit for the written test; such candidates would be directly called for interview. However, such candidates are required to apply in the prescribed application form.


3. 2-year MStat: 3 - year Bachelor’s degree with Statistics as full subject, or a BStat / BMath degree from the Indian Statistical Institute or a Statistician’s Diploma / Senior Diploma in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute. Stipend Rs. 5000/- per month. (Offered at Delhi and Chennai).


4. 2-year MMath: 3-year Bachelor’s degree or a BE / BTech degree, with Mathematics and an exceptionally strong background in Analysis and Abstract Algebra or a BStat / BMath degree from the Indian Statistical Institute. Stipend Rs. 5000/- per month. (Offered at Kolkata).


5. 2-year Master of Science (MS) in Quantitative Economics: 3-year Bachelor’s degree in Economics / Mathematics / Statistics / Physics or a BStat degree from the Indian Statistical Institute. Engineering graduates are also eligible. Candidates should have knowledge of Economics and Mathematics at the BA / BSc pass level. Stipend Rs. 5000/- per month. (Offered at Kolkata & Delhi).


6. 2-year Master of Science (MS) in qualitaty Management Science: 3-year Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. Stipend Rs. 5000/- per month (Offered at Bangalore/Hyderabad)


7. 2-year Master of Science (MS) in Library and Information Science: 3-year Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Stipend Rs. 5000/- per month. (Offered at Bangalore).


8. 2-year MTech in Computer Science: (i) Master's degree in Mathematics / Statistics / Physics / Electronic Sciences / Computer Science / Computer Applications / Information Technology or, (ii) Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or any other qualification considered equivalent (such as AMIE or, GRAD-IETE or, DOEACC ‘B’ Level). (Offered at Kolkata). Stipend Rs. 8000/- per month.

A candidate with a valid GATE scores above a threshold (to be decided by the Selection Committee) in his/her own subject would be directly called for interview. However, such candidates are required to apply in the prescribed application form.


9. 2-year MTech in Quality, Reliability and Operations Research: (i) Master's degree in Statistics or Master's degree in Mathematics with Probability and Statistics as major subjects or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent or PG diploma in SQC & OR from the Indian Statistical Institute and (ii) Knowledge of Mathematics at graduate level and knowledge of Physics and Chemistry at Higher Secondary level. Stipend Rs. 8000/- per month. (Offered at Kolkata).


10. 1-year PG Diploma in Statistical Methods and Analytics: 3-year Bachelor’s degree in Economics / Mathematics / Statistics. Stipend Rs. 2000/- per month (Offered at ISI NE Centre at Tezpur and exclusively for the domiciled North East Students)


11. PG Diploma in computer Applications: 3 years Bachelor's degree in Mathematics as one of the subjects.


12. Junior Research Fellowship:
(a) Statistics: (i) A good academic record with MStat, MA / MSc or equivalent degree in Statistics or, (ii) outstanding mathematical maturity with BStat / BMath, BA / BSc or equivalent degree with Statistics as the main subject.


(b) Mathematics: (i) A good academic record with MStat, MMath, MA / MSc or equivalent degree in Mathematics or, (ii) outstanding mathematical maturity with BStat / BMath, BA / BSc or equivalent degree with Mathematics as the main subject.


(c) Quantitative Economics: (i) A good academic record with MS(QE), MStat, MA / MSc or equivalent degree in Statistics / Mathematics / Economics / Econometrics or, (ii) outstanding mathematical maturity with BA / BSc degree with Economics as the main subject. A candidate possessing a Master's degree in any subject with Mathematics / Statistics at BA / BSc (Pass) level is also eligible.


(d) Computer Science: A good academic record with ME / MTech or equivalent degree in Electronics / Telecommunication / Radio Physics / Computer Science / Electrical Engineering / Microwave Communications / Information Technology / Bioinformatics / Biotechnology with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level or a good academic record with MSc / MCA / MA or equivalent degree in Physics / Mathematics / Applied Mathematics / Statistics / Electronic Sciences / Computer Science / Atmospheric Science / Information Technology / Bioinformatics / Biotechnology with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level. Outstanding candidates having BE / BTech or equivalent degree in the above subjects will also be eligible.


(e) Quality, Reliability and Operations Research: A good academic record with MTech / ME / MS / MPhil or equivalent degree in Quality / Reliability / Operations Research or a good academic record with MStat / MSc / MA or equivalent degree in Mathematics / Statistics / Physics with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level. Outstanding candidates having BE / BTech or equivalent degree in the above subjects will also be eligible.


(f) Physics and Applied Mathematics: A good academic record with MSc in Physics / Mathematics / Statistics. (Offered at Kolkota)


(g) Agriculture & Ecology: A good academic record with MSc in Agriculture with specialization in Agronomy, or MSc / MStat or equivalent degree in statistics or MSc in Botany with specialization in Plant physiology and Biochemistry or MSc in Environmental Sciences. (Offered at Kolkata)


(h) Biological Anthropology: MSc in Anthropology with first class and with specialization in Physical / Biological / Anthropology


(i) Physiology: MA / MSc in Physiology / Applied Physiology


(j) Geology: A good academic record with MSc in Geology / Social Anthropology / Economics


(k) Sociology: A good academic record with Master Degree in Sociology / Social Anthropology / Economics


(l) Library and Information Science: A consistently good academic record with first or high second class in MS (LIS) awarded by the Indian Statistical Institute or Associate ship in Documentation and Information Science of the Indian Statistical Institute or NISCAIR / INSDOC or its equivalent degree (such as Master's degree in Library and Information Science from any University) with at least 55% marks in undergraduate programme. (Offered at Bengaluru)

Application forms can be submitted online at website www.isical.ac.in from 3rd February 2015.


Application Fee: Rs. 600/-(Rs. 300/- only for reserved categories of all programmes except Junior Research Fellowship Programme) in cash or by bank draft drawn in favour of ‘Indian Statistical Institute’ payable at Kolkata.

Mode of Payment: The Challan generated by online application portal must be taken to any branch State Bank of India and the fee will be accepted in cash along with bank charges (Rs.40/-)
