M.Phil Admissions 2011-2012


Applications are invited by University of North Bengal in prescribed forms from candidates having Masters Degrees in their subjects with at least 55% marks [50% marks for SC / ST candidates] for admission to the Four Semester MPhil programme of the session 2011-2013 in Bengali / English / Nepali / Philosophy / Political Science / Economics / History and in Himalayan Studies [for which the eligibility required is Master’s Degree in Strategic & Area Studies / History / Geography / Economics / Political Science / Sociology / Anthropology].

Prescribed application forms is available from the Office of the Joint Registrar, Faculty Council for P.G. Studies in Arts, Commerce & Law, University of North Bengal on payment of Rs. 100/- [Rs.25/- for SC / ST candidates] at the University Cash Counter till 09.09.11 between 11 am and 3 pm.

Application forms may also be downloaded from the website www.nbu.ac.in
The downloaded form has to be submitted along with a Bank Draft of Rs. 100/- [Rs.25/- for SC / ST candidates], drawn in favour of the University of North Bengal and payable at SBI, NBU Campus Branch. Application, along with supporting documents, shall reach the Office of the Joint Registrar, Faculty Council for PG Studies in Arts, Commerce & Law, NBU-734013, by 09.09.11,

Important Dates:
Written test for all subjects [to be held in respective Departments] will be held on 13.09.11 at 11 am, Viva-voce at 3 pm.
Written test for Himalayan Studies [to be held in the Centre for Himalayan Studies] will be held on 14.09.11 at 11 am, Viva-voce at 3 pm.
List of the provisionally selected candidates will be notified on the notice board of this office on: 21.09.2011
Admission will take place on 26.09.11 & 28.09.11
Classes will commence from: 28.09.11

Applications in prescribed form are invited for admission to the Ph.D. programme 2011-12 of the University of North Bengal in various disciplines as follows:

ELIGIBILITY:
1) Any Master of Arts, Commerce, Law, Science, Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy or any other discipline of the University of North Bengal or of any other University whose degree has been recognized by this University on the basis of the list prepared by the Equivalence Committee of the University from time to time are eligible to apply for the Ph.D. programme in the subject in which she / he has obtained the Master’s Degree or in an allied subject (to be determined by the Equivalence Committee).
Foreign students will be required to produce clearance from the Government of India and / or other appropriate authorities. Admission into the Ph.D. programme may be granted only to such foreign nationals who have obtained a research visa.

2) The candidates who have been awarded research fellowship by DBT / DST / CSIR / UGC or any other Govt. recognized funding agency shall apply in prescribed form for admission to the Ph.D. programme.

3) Candidates who already hold an M.Phil. Degree shall also apply in prescribed form.

4) The candidates who have already been registered under old ordinances may opt to pursue Ph.D. programme as per New Ordinances (UGC Regulations 2009). In such case their earlier registration shall remain valid until they get registration as per New Ordinances. They will have to apply in prescribed form for admission to Ph.D. Programme.

Prescribed application form may also be collected from the office of the undersigned on payment of Rs.100/- (Rs. 25/- for SC/ST/BC/PH) at the university cash counter from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm.

The filled-in downloaded application must be accompanied by Crossed Bank Draft of Rs. 100/- (Rs.25/- for SC/ST/BC/PH) payable in favour of “University of North Bengal” at State Bank of India, NBU Campus Branch, Siliguri.
Completed application along with two copies of the recent passport size photograph (identical with the same pasted in the form) and other documents regarding citizenship (by registration), age, qualification, and experience etc. duly attested by the candidate must be sent to the Office of the Registrar, University of North Bengal, P.O. North Bengal University, Raja Rammohunpur, Dist. Darjeeling, PIN 734013, on or before 05.09.2011.

List of eligible candidates for the Entrance Test will be notified on the Notice Board of the respective department on 09.09.2011 [Friday]
Date of Entrance Test [Test will be held in the respective Department/Centre]: 15.09.2011, Thursday [from 12.00 Noon to 2.00 P.M. – All subjects; from 3.00 P.M. to 5.00 P.M. – Centre for Himalayan Studies and Biotechnology].

Date of publication of the results of Entrance Test will be notified on the Notice Board of the respective department on 16.09.2011 [Friday].

Date of Viva-Voce in respective department on 19.09.2011 [Monday] : 11.00 A.M. onwards.

Date of Admission to Ph.D. programme: 23.09.2011 [Friday] and 26.09.11 [Monday].
