Doctoral Fellowship in Criminology and Police Science, Admissions 2011-2012


Applications have been invited by Bureau of Police Research & Development, New Delhi for Fellowship Programme in Criminology & Police Science aimed to encourage and foster research and development in the field of Criminology and Police Science.

The research will be carried out in any of the priority areas pertaining to Criminology and Police Science. This will cover police organization and functioning, Criminal investigation, Role of the Police in changing society, Crime-Criminals and Victims, Criminal Justice System, Organisation and functioning of criminal courts, correctional administration, juvenile delinquency and the like.

NUMBER, DURATION & VALUE OF FELLOWSHIP:
i) There shall be 6 Fellowships per year for Criminology and Police Science.
ii) The duration of fellowship shall normally be tenable for three years.
iii) The value of each Fellowship shall be Rs. 8,000/-P.M. for the first two and Rs. 9,000/- p.m. for the third year.
iv) A Contingency grant of Rs. 10,000/- per year will be sanctioned to each fellow under each fellowship/scheme.
v) A departmental assistance of Rs. 3,000/- per year will be paid to the department in which the fellow is registered for the Ph.D for providing infrastructural facilities, (Store and equipment, technical and clerical/managerial assistance, traveling cost for giving presentation, assured supply of electricity/Water etc.) to the research fellow under this programme.
vi) HRA and medical benefits may be allowed as per UGC rules.

ELIGIBILITY:
i) The fellowships are open to Indian National of 30 years for General Category and 35 years of age in Reserve Category (SC/ST/OBC).

ii) First or second class Master’s Degree not less than 55% marks for General Category and 50% for Reserve Category (SC/ST/OBC) in Criminology, Sociology, Social work, Psychology, Social Anthropology, Public Administration, Political Science, Law and Police Administration.

iii) The Candidate Should be registered for Ph.D Degree in any of the subjects mentioned above.
Desirable: NET or SET examination (if any) passed, conducted by UGC is an added advantage.

(a) Certified copy of the Matriculation or School Leaving Certificate in evidence of age.
(b) Copies of all the degree, diploma, professional and experience certificates along with their respective Mark sheets duly attested.
(c) If the Candidate belongs to Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe, he/she should send certificate in evidence of caste.

Eligibility

a) B.E. / B. ELIGIBILITY:
(1) Candidates must have a Post-Graduate Degree in relevant discipline with a minimum of 50 percent marks in aggregate.

(2) Candidates who are working in a well-equipped Educational/ Scientific/ R&D/ Industrial/ Governmental Organizations and in Colleges affiliated to the Universities and engaged in Scientific/Technological/ Architectural / Planning / Design / Engineering/Managerial activities, as the case may be, are eligible for admission as external research candidates and shall continue to work in their own organizations. Faculty members of the JNAFAU, Hyderabad and its Constituent colleges shall be admitted as internal candidates. Candidates working in organizations are also eligible to do the research on regular basis without any scholarship.

(3) Candidates working in colleges affiliated to the universities are eligible, provided
(i) the place of research work is either the institution in which they are working or the constituent College/unit of the university, where necessary facilities are available.
(ii) The Research Supervisor is either from JNAFAU Hyderabad or from any recognized institution / Organization.

MODE OF SELECTION:
Final selection will be based on entrance test and interview.
Eligible candidates must first appear for a one hour Entrance Test to be conducted by the University at HYDERABAD at their own cost. The date and time of the Entrance Test will be intimated to the eligible candidates and details will be displayed in website www.jnafau.ac.in

Areas of Research:
(a) Molecular Biology: Molecular biology of pathogens, gene silencing, stress tolerance, signal transduction, gene expression, genome-wide analysis
(b) Cell Biology & Immunology: Host- pathogen interactions, TB vaccine development, T- and B-cell activation, infectious agents & vaccine targets, protein trafficking
(c) Protein Science & Engineering: Structure-function relationships, design, folding, engineering, stability, expression, structural analysis and modeling, crystallization, structure determination of proteins and structure- based drug designing etc.
(d) Applied & Environmental Microbiology: Microbial diversity, environmental biotechnology, biotransformations, extremophiles and their metabolites
(e) Bioinformatics: Computer-aided vaccine and drug development, genome annotations, protein structure prediction, molecular simulations
(f) Bioorganic Chemistry: Enzymes and abzymes in organic synthesis, biocatalysis and bioactive molecules
(g) Peptide Chemistry: Peptide synthesis, conformational characterization and modelling
(h) Biochemical Engineering: Fermentation & downstream processing, process development and optimization, bioreactor modelling and control.


The candidates who have passed M. Sc and cleared any of the following examination are eligible to attend the interview:
(a) CSIR-UGC NET (NET-LS not eligible)
(b) DBT-JRF examination (‘A’ Category only)
(c) DST INSPIRE Fellowship
(d) ICMR-JRF examination (those selected for working only in ICMR Projects are not eligible).

Eligibility and Selection:
Candidates with Master's Degree or equivalent in any branch of science (Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Microbiology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Pharmacy) or in chemical/biochemical engineering and have qualified for obtaining research fellowship after passing CSIR/UGC NET or DBT JRF examination (‘A’ Category) or DST INSPIRE Fellowship or ICMR JRF examination are eligible to be interviewed.

Age limit: 28 years (age relaxation is applicable to SC/ST and OBC candidates as per Govt. of India rules).

There are approximately 25 to 29 seats in Medical Colleges and 1 seat in Dental College (subject to allotment of seats by Ministry of Health) for sons/ daughters/ widows of Armed Forces personnel of the following categories of Defence Personnel as per the Priority shown against each.

(a) Killed in action: Priority-I

(b) Disabled in action and Boarded out from service with disability attributable to Military Service: Priority-II
