COMEDK UGET 2013

‘Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka’, (COMED-K), has notified the Under Graduate Entrance Test (UGET) 2013 for admission to the Under Graduate courses in Medical, Dental and Engineering in the member colleges of COMEDK in Karnataka. It will be held on 12th May, 2013 (Sunday).

There are 12 Medical, 25 Dental and nearly 150 Engineering colleges which offer nearly 20,000 seats in these professional institutions. The entrance test, publication of test score and rank list will be followed by centralized counseling (Single window system).

Eligibility: MBBS/BDS: For admission to the MBBS / BDS courses, applicant should complete the age of 17 years on or before 31st December, 2013. As per the Regulations of Medical/Dental Council of India, applicant should have passed the 2nd PUC or 10+2 Higher Secondary or equivalent examination, recognized by State / Central Government, the last two years of study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) with English as a compulsory subject. Applicant must also have passed in Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% of marks taken together in PCB (40% in the case of SC, ST and OBC of Karnataka state). Applicant should also secure not less than 50% marks (40 % in the case of SC, ST and OBC of Karnataka state) in PCB in the Common Entrance Test of COMEDK 2013.

For UGET for MBBS/BDS, there will be 60 questions from each of Physics, Chemistry and Biology and 30 questions from English. Each correct answer would fetch one mark. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. Applicant should secure not less than 50% marks in English (40 % in the case of SC, ST and OBC of Karnataka state) in UGET. However, the marks so secured in English will not be added for the determination of rank list as the rank list will be drawn exclusively based on the minimum required marks secured by the candidates in PCB. A candidate is not entitled for a rank if he/she fails to secure 50% or 40% of marks in English, as the case may be. The paper on English language will be of Matriculation standard to test the comprehension of the language, the structure of words, phrases, clauses and sentences, of the candidate.

So, if a general merit candidate secures 50% in English and not less than 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together, his/her name would be announced in the rank list based on the marks secured by him in PCB. If a Candidate secures more than 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together but secures less than 50% in English, he / she will not be eligible to participate in the seat selection process as his/her name will not figure in the Rank list. If a Candidate has secured more than 70% in English but has secured less than 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together, he/she will not be eligible to participate in the seat selection process as he/she will not figure in the Rank list. Those who have passed the qualifying examination prior to 2009 need not apply.

Those who had qualified earlier and had selected a MBBS seat in an earlier COMEDK UG entrance test and has failed to join the college selected without surrendering the seat at the COMEDK level or if the said candidate having joined the college, has failed to pursue his / her education, such candidates need not apply for UGET 2013.

Engineering (BE): As per the norms of the All India Council of Technical Education, applicant must have passed the 2nd PUC or 10+2 Higher Secondary or equivalent examination recognized by State / Central Government with the last two years of study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) with English as a compulsory subject. A General Merit Candidates should have passed with a minimum aggregate of 45% marks (40% in respect of SC, ST and OBC Candidates of Karnataka state) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) and should have passed these subjects individually. Physics and Mathematics are compulsory subjects. The third optional subject can be Chemistry or Biotechnology or Biology. However, if AICTE makes any change in the eligibility criteria, the same will be adopted. Diploma Candidates are not eligible to take COMEDK UGET-2013 entrance test.

In UGET 2013 for B.E, there will be 60 questions from each of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each correct answer would fetch one mark. There is no negative marking. There are no minimum marks fixed for the entrance test, to get qualified to figure in the Engineering rank list.

B. Arch: Applicant should have passed 2nd PUC or 10+2 Higher Secondary or equivalent examination with Mathematics as one of the subjects or should have passed the 10+3 Diploma recognized by Central / State Government and should have obtained at least 50% marks in aggregate (45% marks in case of SC, ST and OBC Candidates of Karnataka). Applicant should also have appeared for National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by Council of Architecture and passed the Test with a minimum score of 80 out of 200 for both general merit and category candidates. COMEDK will not be conducting any Common Entrance Test for candidates seeking admission to B. Arch (Architecture Course) as per its existing rules.

Online applications for MBBS/BDS and BE, can be submitted from 12th March, 2013 (Tuesday). The last date for receipt of completed application forms for MBBS/BDS & B.E is 15th April, 2013.

Uploading of Online Test Admission Tickets will be done by 24th April. Answer keys of the Test to be held ion 12th May, 2013 will be announced on 12th May, itself. Objections related to the answer key can be submitted latest by 16th May, 2013. The Test scores will be published on 1st June, 2013. Objections related to the Test scores can be given till 5th June, 2013. Rank List will be published on 11th June, 2013.

For B Arch, there will be only Centralized Counseling. Issue of online application form for B Arch will commence on 31st May, 2013. Last Date for Receipt of Completed Application Forms for B. Arch will be 21st June, 2013. Rank list of B.Arch will be published on 1st July, 2013. Eligibility & Qualifications:
Candidate must be Indian National.
The nationality certificate issued by the District Magistrate / Additional District Magistrate / Chief Metropolitan Magistrate or a valid passport will be considered as a proof of Nationality.
Candidate must have passed qualifying examination i.e. HSC (or equivalent) examination with the subject Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

Candidate belonging to general category should obtain minimum 50% marks in CET (Common Entrance Test) conducted by this Deemed University. However, admission will be on the basis of merit.

VITEEE-2013, the Vellore Institute of Technology Entrance Examination (VITEEE), for admission to the B Tech Programmes offered at the Vellore Campus and Chennai Campus of VIT, will be held as a Computer Based Test between 15.04.2013 and 30.04.2013 at centres across the country.

The Programmes offered at the Vellore campus include Bioinformatics, Bio-Medical Engineering, Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical (Spec. in Automotive Engineering), Mechanical (Spec. in Chemical Process Engg.), Mechanical (Spec. in Energy Engineering ).

The Programs offered at the Chennai campus are Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Applicant should be a Resident / Non Resident Indian National and should have been born on or after 1st July 1991.

He/she should have either completed or should be appearing in 2013, in any one of the following qualifying examinations:
(i)  Final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State Board; Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi); The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE, New Delhi)
(ii) Intermediate or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University
(iii) High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
(iv) General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Srilanka) at the Advanced (A) level.

Applicant should have secured an aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/ Biology in the qualifying examination(+2/Intermediate).Candidates belonging to SC/ST and Candidates hailing  from Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern states of Arunachal  Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya,  Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura need only 50% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology (PCM / PCB) in +2 (or its equivalent) put together. Only those who have studied in regular, full time and formal education are eligible to apply.

Those who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible for all the 13 B.Tech. Degree Programmes while those who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible only for B.Tech. Bioinformatics, Bio-Medical Engineering and Biotechnology programmes.

Applications: Application can be submitted online at www.vit.ac.in/admissions/viteee2013/online.asp  as per the instruction given there. The Online application fee is Rs.900/- which may be paid through Net banking /Credit card/Debit card or by way of a DD drawn in favour of VIT University payable at Vellore. After the application is submitted online, the applicant should take a print out of the application. This has to be completed as instructed.

The completed printout and DD (if applicable) should be forwarded to ‘Director-UG Admissions, VIT University, Vellore, Tamil Nadu- 632014 to reach latest by the last date prescribed. More details on online application can be had from www.vit.ac.in/admissions/viteee2013/online.asp  Applications can be submitted offline also. Prospectus and Information Brochure, along with the necessary enclosures which include the  Application Form and a printed self- addressed envelope, can be obtained against cash payment of Rs. 950/- from the various post offices as given at www.vit.ac.in/admissions/viteee2013/avail_offline.asp.

Applications can also be obtained through post by sending a Demand Draft for Rs.950/-drawn in favour of ‘VIT University’, payable at Vellore, with a covering letter addressed to ‘Director - UG Admissions,VIT University, Vellore-632014’, requesting for the application form and indicating their complete postal address. On receipt of the DD, the application form with the enclosures will be sent by post. Candidates should write their name, Mobile Number and address on the reverse of the DD.

The completed application form should be enclosed separately in the printed envelope provided, addressed to Director-UG Admissions, VIT University, Vellore-632014 and sent through Registered Post or Speed Post, so as to reach the Office of Admissions on or before 7th March 2013.

Once the application is received at VIT, a message will be sent through SMS to the candidates stating that their application has been received at VIT. So applicants should shade correctly, the mobile number in the application form.The candidates may also track the status of their application by typing their application number in the VIT website. However,this feature can be availed of only after about 3 weeks of despatch of their application.

Booking Slots for the Test : VIT Engineering Entrance Examination which will be Computer based, will be conducted from 15.04.2013 to 30.04.2013 at over 112 Test Cities.The number of examination days will be estimated based on the number of applications received for the particular group of courses and the test centre chosen by applicants in the application form. Applicants will get the facility to book the slots for the Test in the first week of March as per the Notification. Online Test booking system is a web based onlinescheduling system available at www.vit.ac.in.

Candidate should first choose the Test City, which should be the same as chosen in the applications form, and then the date and the batch for the exams. The schedule bookings are done on a first-come first served basis and are subject to the availability of the test centre date and time. More details on this will be available at www.vit.ac.in  in March 2013.

While booking the test schedule, applicant should have a photocopy of the application form submitted and the Online Test Booking Password. For both OMR and online applications, the password will be sent by email to the email address mentioned in the application form. Therefore it is mandatory to give correct email address. After logging into the Online Test Booking System, applicant should select the test he/she wishes to apply for (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics or Physics/ Chemistry/ Biology) from the drop down menu to proceed further. A slot once booked cannot be changed. Request for change of test city, date or slot will not be entertained under any circumstances. In case of non-availability of slots in a test centre of choice, the candidate may choose to book a slot in an alternative centre/ date.

The online test booking system is available only for those eligible candidates who have submitted the application forms complete in all respects on or before the last date mentioned. It is the responsibility of the candidate to book their test schedule in Online Test Booking System within the given time frame. The confirmation mail will be automatically sent to the candidate’s email address after he/she has booked his/her schedule through the Online Test Booking System.

The e-Admit card will be generated once the candidate has booked his/her schedule through the Online Test Booking System.The e-Admit card will be auto generated for only those candidates who book a slot using the Online Test Booking system before the last date. It will indicate the e-Admit card number, photograph of the student, address of the test center, test date & time selected by the candidate.

Discrepancies, if any, must be brought to the notice of VIT university immediately. The e-Admit card will be made available for candidates on www.vit.ac.in.  Candidate should provide the application form number and Online Test Booking password to download the e-admit card.The copy of the e-Admit card will also be emailed to the candidate.


Examination: VIT Engineering Entrance Examination which will be Computer based, will be conducted from 15.04.2013 to 30.04.2013 at Test Cities given at www.vit.ac.in/admissions/viteee2013/test_cities.asp

In the Computer Based Test, the candidate sits in front of the computer and the questions are presented on the monitor. The candidate submits his or her answer through the use of mouse. The computer is connected to the server, which delivers the encrypted test in real time through a secure and reliable connection. Entrance test assumes that the candidate has the basic familiarity with the use of computer like use of keyboard, if required and mouse operation. In the rare and unlikely event of a technical failure during the test, the candidate may be required to attempt the test again.

The duration of VITEEE -2013, the Computer based Test (CBT) with objective type questions only, will be 2 hours 30 minutes. The test will have 3 parts, with Physics in Part I, Chemistry in Part-II and Mathematics / Biology in Part-III. Those attempting questions from Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics are eligible for all the 13 programmes offered. Those attempting questions from Physics, Chemistry & Biology are eligible for Bioinformatics, Bio-Medical Engineering and Biotechnology programmes only. The selection of pattern (Physics/ Chemistry /Mathematics or Biology) has to be decided at the time of slot booking. All the questions will be mostly from the State Board ofHigher Secondary Education and the CBSE syllabus only. The syllabus for the Entrance Examination is given in APPENDIX-IV of the Brochure and also at www.vit.ac.in/admissions/viteee2013/index.asp.

Each part has 40 questions and each question carries one mark.Each question is followed by 4 alternative answers. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore offers admission to its four-year Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Programme in 2013. Students who will appear for the 12th standard board examination (or equivalent) in 2013 and those who have passed this examination in 2012 are eligible to apply for admission to this Programme. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has invited applications for admission to the four-year Bachelor of Science (B.S) Programme for 2013. The four-year BS Programme is organized into eight semesters. The final semester is devoted exclusively to a research project. The major disciplines available in the BS Programme are Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Materials, Mathematics and Physics. The batch of students joining in 2013 will graduate in June 2017.

Students specializing in any of the above disciplines will have to take a set of prescribed core and elective courses in the chosen discipline. They will also take courses in Engineering, Humanities and Inter-disciplinary areas for a well-rounded learning experience. While a student specializes in a major discipline, he/she can also broaden his/her knowledge and skills by taking courses in other disciplines. Students who take a sufficient number of designated courses in a discipline other than their major will qualify for a ‘minor’ in that discipline. The combination of courses taken by a student will be listed in his/her Degree certificate.

Applicant should have completed their II PUC / 12th standard in 2012. Those who are expecting to complete their II PUC / 12th standard in 2013 are also eligible to apply. Applicant must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as main subjects during their II PUC / 12th Standard. Those who have studied Biology, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science etc., in addition to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are also eligible to apply. The candidates must have secured a first class or 60% or equivalent grade (relaxed to pass class for SC/ST candidates) in the II PUC / 12th standard examination.

About 120 students will be admitted to the Programme. Seats will be allotted to general and special categories as per Government regulations. Reservation for SC/ ST/ OBC/ Physically-Handicapped (PH) and Kashmiri-Migrant (KM) candidates will be as per Government of India regulations, and following the National List. The Institute uses the merit lists of existing highly competitive national level entrance examinations such as KVPY, IIT-JEE (Main and Advanced) and NEET-UG for admission to the BS Programme. Students desirous of applying to the BS Programme must take at least one of these above examinations.

Under the KVPY scheme, those in KVPY-SA (appeared in 2011, and selected for the Fellowship), KVPY-SB (appeared in 2012 and selected for the Fellowship), KVPY-SX (appeared in 2012 and selected for the Fellowship) and KVPY Fellows selected through the Empowerment Initiative for SC/ST candidates are eligible. Under the IIT-JEE-Main stream, those appearing in 2013 and securing a minimum of 60% (GN), 54% (OBC-NCL) and 30% (SC/ST/PH) are eligible.

In the IIT-JEE-Advanced stream, those appearing in 2013 and securing a minimum of 60% (GN), 54% (OBC-NCL) and 30% (SC/ST/PH) are eligible. In the NEET-UG stream, those appearing in 2013 and getting selected in the main merit list are eligible for admission to the BS Programme.

The selection will be based on the performance of the candidates who have applied in any one of the National level examinations listed above. A separate merit list of candidates who have applied will be prepared for each of these national examinations and the seats will be offered based on the performance in the examination and the number of seats available. A candidate who has qualified in multiple examinations listed above will be included in all the appropriate merit lists. Separate merit lists will be prepared for candidates belonging to different reserved categories, as per standard Government of India regulations.

Application can be submitted only online. The online application may be submitted by at the IISc website www.iisc.ernet.in/ug up to 30th April 2013. The application fee is Rs. 400/- for GN/OBC/KM candidates and Rs. 200/- for SC/ST/PH categories. This can be paid online using Net-banking, Visa Card/ Master Card, Debit/Credit Cards. Offline Payment through SBI/Canara Bank branches using Challan is also available. The bank service charge is extra and has to be borne by the applicant.

As the first step, the online application is to be completed by following the specific instructions provided at the website for receiving applications, on or before 30th April 2013. Specific instructions for filling the online application form are available at the UG website http://www.iisc.ernet.in/ug.

Applicant should click on the ‘online application link’, to open the ‘Admissions 2013’, page and then click on the ‘Instructions for filling the Application Form’, link to read the instructions or to download a file that contains the instructions. Online Applications will be accepted up to April 30, 2013.

The first set of admission offers will be made to KVPY candidates in May 2013. The next set of admission offers will be announced in the middle of June 2013. More offers for admission will be made in July 2013. Candidates who are offered admission will be invited for mandatory day-long counselling sessions at the Institute. Classes will commence on 1st August 2013.

The annual Tuition Fee is Rs.10,000/-. Other fee and deposits are also there. Depending on their performance in national examinations such as KVPY, IITJEE (Main and Advanced), and NEET-UG, students will be able to avail themselves of the standard fellowships offered by agencies such as KVPY and DST-INSPIRE. Those who travel to the Institute for attending the counselling are eligible for reimbursement of Second-Class Railway / Bus fare by the shortest route from the place of residence to the Institute, both ways. Those travelling to the Institute for joining the Institute are eligible for reimbursement of Second-Class Railway / Bus fare by the shortest route from the place of residence to the Institute one way. A duly filled-in TA form with journey tickets should be submitted to the Admissions Unit, within 15 days of joining the Institute. Beyond this period, no claim will be accepted.
