Short Training Course on

“Developing Human Resource for Teaching Core Course in Plant Nematology”

(Dec 23, 2013 – Jan 4, 2014)

 The Academy of Agricultural Research and Education Management (AAREM) in collaboration with Department of Nematology, CCSHAU Hisar is organizing a short training course on “Developing Human Resource for Teaching Core Course in Plant Nematology” from December 23, 2013 to January 4, 2014. This course is being offered for the faculty of all State Agricultural Universities, Central Agricultural University, Other universities having Faculty of Agriculture and ICAR Institutes /other institutes engaged in teaching the subject of Nematology.

The subject of Nematology is relatively new. The Fourth Deans’ committee of ICAR has recommended a core course “Introductory Nematology” (1+1 credits), besides elective courses in B. Sc. Ag. /B. Sc. Hort. programmes for all SAUs/CAUs. Most of the SAUs/CAUs have already implemented the new UG curriculum. Out of about 50 SAUs/CAUs/other universities with agriculture faculty (OUsAF), only about 10 have separate Department of Nematology. Among the other SAUs/CAUs/OUsAF, only a few have full-time nematologists who are placed in Entomology or Plant Pathology departments. Majority of Colleges of Agriculture/Horticulture in SAUs do not have trained faculty to teach these courses. Most often teaching of these courses is assigned to entomologists or plant pathologists who feel handicapped for want of sound theoretical background, practical training and non-availability of teaching aids.

Maximum 30 participants will be enrolled in this course.

OBJECTIVES  

• To generate human resource for teaching core/elective courses in Plant Nematology at UG level in those SAUs/CAUs/OUsAF where trained nematologists are not available • To impart hands-on training to the participants to enable them in handling practical sessions more effectively

• To provide teaching aids for effective and uniform coverage of the course contents

PARTICIPANTS  

Eligibility qualification for the participants of Short Course

a. Master’s degree in Entomology/ Plant Pathology/ Plant Protection/ Botany/ Zoology/ Microbiology

b. Assistant Professor/equivalent and above in the subjects mentioned above under SAUs/CAUs/OUsAF system

Seats for participants will be reserved on first come first serve basis. The selected participants will be informed in time. 

REGISTRATION FEE  

 The participants are required to pay a sum of Rs.1600 (Rupees one thousand and six hundred only) as registration fee. The registration fee shall be deposited in cash at the time of registration on December 23, 2013.

EVALUATION  

 The programme will be evaluated for its quality of contents, suitability and usefulness to the target clientele by the participants through a well-designed questionnaire.

Likewise, the participants will be subjected to formal assessment.

TRAVEL AND OTHER ARRANGEMENTS  

 TA/DA, registration fee and other expenses will be borne by the sponsoring institutes as per rules. Accommodation in the University Guest House and vegetarian food will be arranged on nominal charges to be paid by the participants.

LOCATION  

 Hisar is located about 180 km. on Delhi-Fazilka Highway (NH-10). There is a frequent bus service from ISBT, Kashmiri Gate, Delhi throughout the day for Hisar. Hisar is also well connected to Ludhiana, Jaipur and Delhi by train. The climate of Hisar will be very cold during the duration of the course.

• AIPGMEE Is the eligibility cum-ranking examination prescribed as the single entrance examination for admission to All India 50% quota of MD/MS/Diploma Seats - 2014 Admission Session (except Jammu & Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh).

• The National Board of Examinations has been notified by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Government of India to conduct a competitive entrance examination on All-India Basis for admission to All India 50% quota MD/MS/Diploma Seats - 2014 Admission Session (except for colleges located in Jammu 8 Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh).

• The State Governments of Haryana. Punjab. Chhattisgarh and University of Delhi shall utilize the results of AIPGMEE 2014 for admission to MD/WS/ PG Diploma courses at colleges under their control. These states shall not be conducting an entrance examination of their own.

• Admission to MD/MS/PG Diploma courses at institutes under Armed Forces Medical Services shall also be made on the basis of results of AIPGMEE 2014.

• The AIPGMEE shall be conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT) from November 25". 2013 to December 6", 2013 (with 26' 8 29* November; 1" 8 4" December as non-testing days) at 70 test centres located at 38 cities across the country.

■ Eligibility Criteria for AIPGMEE 2014 : Candidates who are in possession of MBBS degree/Provisional MBBS Pass Certificate from an Institute (except colleges/universities located in Jammu 8 Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh) recognized as per the provisions of the Indian Medical Council Act and possess permanent or provisional registration certificate of MBBS qualification issued by the Medical Council of India / State Medical Council and have completed one year of internship or likely to complete on or before 31" March 2014 may apply for AIPGMEE through online application system at www.nbo.oov.in

GENERAL:-

NCCS, Pune, invites application from candidates for Ph.D. admission for Feb., 2014. The candidates who are bonafide Indian citizens, having consistently good academic record with strong motivation to pursue research in modern biology leading to a Ph.D. degree and with eligibility mentioned below should apply for the same Students with only post graduate degree and having valid fellowship from CSIR/DBT/ICMR/UGC/ DST- Inspire /BINC are eligible to apply. All eligible students interested in joining NCCS also need to appear for the Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Science (JGEEBILS) being conducted by TIFR/NCBS on 8th December 2013(SUNDAY) at various centers all over India. For the JGEEBILS examination, applications must be submitted online to http://www.ncbs.res.in/admissions2014.html.

The last date of application for JGEEBILS examination is 20th October 2013. Eligible students with valid fellowship, who have qualified JGEEBILS examination in Dec 2012, may also apply referring to the JGEEBILS code number in the NCCS application form.

Those candidates interested to join NCCS Ph. D. program need to also complete NCCS application form and send it to NCCS as detailed below. Shortlisted candidates fulfilling NCCS criteria from the JGEEBILS examination will be called for interviews to be held at NCCS during 3rd and 4th February, 2014.

ELIGIBILITY for NCCS PH.D PROGRAME:-

 Should have Postgraduate degree in any branch of Science having at least 50% or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA).

 Holds a valid Junior Research Fellowship from CSIR/UGC/ICMR/DBT/ DST- INSPIRE/BINC and Fellowship should be valid as on the date of joining. Candidates who have qualified only for Lectureship in CSIR-UGC (NET) and the “Project List of ICMR” are not eligible

 Other terms and conditions of the fellowship will be as directed by the agency awarding the fellowship. The upper age limit for JRF shall be 28 years which is relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Women/PH and 3 years in case of OBC candidates.

 Reservation will be as per the Government of India guidelines.

MODE OF APPLICATION:-

Candidates should first apply online for JGEEBILS examination and then send hard copy of NCCS application in the prescribed format (download from the NCCS web site) quoting the JGEEBILS entrance test reference code number. Eligible students with valid fellowship, who have qualified JGEEBILS in Dec 2012, may also apply referring their JGEEBILS Code No. in the appropriate place.

The completed application form along with the M.SC final marks statement and Fellowship certificate/admit card should reach the Dean, Academics, National Centre for Cell Science, Pune

University Campus, Ganeshkhind Post, Pune – 411 007 on or before 25th November 2013.

PERSONAL INTERVIEWS:-  

Personal interview will be held at NCCS, Pune of all shortlisted candidates declared successful in the Entrance examination (JGEEBILS) as per NCCS criteria. Second class train fare by shortest route will be paid to only SC/ST Candidates as per rules. Candidates should make their own arrangements for stay at Pune. Selected candidates will need to stay for two or three days more for finalization of guide. Candidates should bring all original and attested copy of following documents for attending the interview
