Indian Air Force has invited applications from enterprising & adventurous male Indian Citizens for various courses commencing in January 2015, for grant of Short Service Commission in Flying Branch and Permanent / Short Service Commission in Technical and Ground Duty Branches.

Indian Air Force has also invited applications from spirited and dynamic female Indian Citizens for various courses commencing in January 2015, for grant of Short Service Commission in Flying, Technical and Ground Duty Branches. The selection will be based on the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) to be conducted on 23rd February 2014 (Sunday).

The Courses for males include, the No. 15 Short Service Commission (15 SSC) Course in the Flying Branch, No. 86 Aeronautical Engineers (86 AEC) Course (Permanent Commission) and No. 58 Short Service Commission (58 SSC) Course in the Technical Branch and the No. 137 Ground Duty Officers’ (137 GDOC) Course (Permanent Commission) and No. 30 Short Service Commission (30 SSC) Course In Ground Duty Branches. The Courses for females include, the No. 44 Short Service Commission (44 SSC) Course in the Flying Branch, the No.58 Short Service Commission (58 SSC) Course in the Technical Branch and the No. 46 Short Service Commission (46 SSC) Course in Ground Duty Branches. Applications are to be submitted only online on IAF career website www.careerairforce.nic.in latest by 12th January 2014.

Eligibility Conditions:
Flying Branch (15 SSC Course): Applicant should be 19 to 23 years as on 1st January 2015 (should have been born between 2ndJanuary 1992 and 1st January 1996 (both dates inclusive). The upper age limit for those holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable up to 25 years. Those in this category born between 2nd January 1990 and 1st January 1996 (both dates inclusive) are eligible.

Applicants should be Graduates (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognised University and should have obtained a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and should have passed Mathematics and Physics at 10+2 level or should have a BE / B Tech degree (Four year course) from a recognised University with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together.

Those who have failed the Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) in an earlier attempt or a Flight Cadet suspended from flying training at Air Force Academy will not be eligible to apply. Technical Branch (86 AEC / 58 SSC Courses): Applicant should be 18 to 28 years as on 1st January 2015 (born between 2nd January 1987 and 1st January 1997 (both dates inclusive).

There are two streams here.
Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) (AE (L)): Applicant should have a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognised University or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies and should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and studied at least eight subjects out of the eighteen subjects listed below in their qualifying exam.

(L1) Physics / Engineering Physics; (L2) Mathematics / Engineering Mathematics; (L3) Engineering Graphics / Engineering Drawing; (L4) Electrical Engineering / Electrical Technology; (L5) Control Engineering; (L6) Microprocessors; (L7) Digital Electronics / Basic Electronics; (L8) Computer Networks; (L9) Information Technology; (L10) Network Theory Design; (L11) Telecommunication Systems; (L12) Electronic Circuit Design; (L13) Radar Theory; (L14) Switching Theory; (L15) Instrumentation; (L16) Microwave Engineering; (L17) Antenna and Wave Propagation; (L18) Electronic Devices.

Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) (AE (M)): Those applying for AE (M) branch should have a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognised University or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies and should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and studied at least eight subjects out of the eighteen subjects listed below in their qualifying exam:

(M1) Physics / Engineering Physics (M2) Engineering Maths / Mathematics (M3) Engineering Drawing / Graphics (M4) Automotive Engineering / Plant Engineering / Industrial Engineering (M5) Engineering Mechanics / Strength of Material (M6) Aerodynamics (M7) Thermodynamics and Applications / Heat Power Engineering (M8) Heat and Mass Transfer (M9) Theory of Machines (Kinematics and Dynamics of Machinery) (M10) Fluid Mechanics / Turbo Machines (M11) Flight Mechanics (M12) Machine Drawing / Machine Design (M13) Mechatronics (M14) Material Science / Metallurgy (M15) Vibrations (M16) Workshop Technology / Manufacturing Technology / Production Engineering (M17) Hydraulics and Pneumatics (M18) Aircraft Structures.

Ground Duty Branches (137 GDOC / 30 SSC Courses): A
Age as on 1stJanuary 2015: For Graduates 20 to 23 Years (02 January 1992 to 01 January 1995); For Post Graduates / LLB ( Five years  integrated course): 20 to 25 Years (02 January 1990 to 01 January 1995); For LLB (Three years course after Graduation): 20 to 26 Years (02 January 1989 to 01 January 1995); For M Ed / Ph D / CA / ICWA: 20 to 27 Years (02 January 1988 to 01 January 1995) (both dates inclusive)

Educational Qualification:
Administration & Logistics: Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of all papers put together or a Post Graduate Degree / equivalent Diploma in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.
Accounts: Graduate Degree in Commerce (B Com)(Minimum three year degree course) with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of all papers put together or Post Graduate Degree in Commerce (MCom) / CA / ICWA with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.
Education: Post Graduate Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.

Those appearing in final year/semester examinations may apply for all courses commencing in January 2015 subject to the condition that they have no backlog at present and secured a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together upto the last semester / year for which results have been declared at the time of online submission. Such applicants should be able to provide provisional / original degree certificate issued by University, latest by 15th December, 2014.

Type of Commission: Those joining as Permanent Commission (PC) officers would continue to serve till the age of superannuation.The Engagement period for SSC Flying Branch is Fourteen years from the date of Commissioning (Not extendable). The initial tenure for Short Service Commission officers in Technical and Ground Duty Branches would be for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted subject to willingness, service, requirement and availability of vacancies.

Selection Procedure: All applicants whose applications have been submitted by due date will be called for Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) to be conducted on 23rdFebruary 2014 (Sunday) at Ambala, Amritsar, Allahabad, Agra, Aizawl, Ahmedabad, Barnala, Bathinda, Bengaluru, Belgaum, Bidar, Bagdogra, Bareilly, Chandigarh, Chabua, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Darbhanga, Gorakhpur, Gwalior, Guwahati, Halwara, Hashimara, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jalandhar, Jammu, Jorhat, Jaipur, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kolkata, Kalaikunda (Kharagpur), Kochi, Leh, Lucknow, Mumbai, Mohanbari, Mysore, Nal (Bikaner), Nagpur, Ojhar (Nasik), Pathankot, Patna, Pune, Port Blair, Salua (Kharagpur), Srinagar, Suratgarh, Sirsa, Saharanpur, Shillong, Silchar, Sulur (Coimbatore), Thane, Tezpur, Thanjavur, Thiruvananthapuram, Vadodara, Varanasi. Those who have been debarred by the Ministry of Defence from holding any type of commission in Defence Services shall not be eligible for admission to AFCAT examination and if admitted, their candidature will be cancelled. The entrance test will be of two hours duration and will contain multiple choice questions on verbal ability, numerical ability, reasoning, general awareness and military aptitude. Candidates who are short-listed on the basis of (AFCAT) will be called for further testing at one of the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs) at Dehradun, Mysore, Gandhinagar or Varanasi. The testing would consist of three stages as given below.

Stage-I Test will consist of Intelligence Test along with other tests, to be conducted on the first day. Stage-I test is a screening test and only those who qualify would undergo subsequent testing.
All Stage-I qualified candidates would be subjected to document check to ascertain their eligibility for the branches applied for. Those candidates who either do not qualify in Stage I testing or do not meet the required eligibility criteria would be sent back on the first day itself.
Stage-II testing consista of Psychological test, Group Tests and Interview will be conducted on subsequent days (Four Days).

For Flying Branch: Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) would be administered to eligible candidates.
Request for change of SSB interview date should be avoided. However, as an exception, such change may be considered based on the circumstances of the case. Request for such change should be forwarded to the respective AFSB from where the call letter for SSB interview has been received and not to Air Headquarters / AFCAT Cell. The AFSBs may consider change of date at their discretion.
Medical Examination will be conducted at AFCME, New Delhi or IAM Bengaluru based on the recommendations at AFSB.

Candidates recommended by the AFSBs and declared medically fit will be detailed for training in the order of all India Merit list depending on the number of vacancies available in various branches/ sub branches. Grant of PC / SSC in Technical and Ground Duty Branches would be based on number of vacancies, performance in the selection process and the choice given by the candidate / Airmen.

No compensation will be paid in respect of any injury sustained during the testing at AFSB.10% of the vacancies are reserved for NCC Air Wing 'C' certificate holders

Applications can be submitted at www.careerairforce.nic.in  as per the instructions given. Applicant should first click at ‘CANDIDATE LOGIN’ here. New applicants will have to first register at the site by giving certain details asked for. Applicant will get a Registration number for future correspondence and the same has to be noted down. While filling Online application, it is advisable to keep the relevant documents readily available, as details are to be filled as per matriculation & other educational certificates. Applicant should save a recent colour passport size photograph (size 10 to 250 KB) in the computer for attaching to the online application form.

Candidates must carry Admit Card and a valid photo identity card such as passport, driving licence, voter identity card, college identity card or any other valid photo identity proof while reporting for Air Force Common Admission Test and for SSB Interview at Air Force Selection Board. The admit card which is attested at the AFCAT centre is to be carried for the SSB interview. Non-attested admit card holders will be routed back from AFSBs without payment of TA/DA.

Serving Airmen are required to apply online at par with other candidates. In addition, Airmen candidates would be required to apply as per the service format as given in AFO 39/ 2006 through service channel. Other government employees also need to apply online after obtaining necessary permission from their concerned departments and they are to produce NOC at the time of AFSB testing.

Training is scheduled to commence in the first week of January 2015 for all courses. The duration of training for Flying and Technical Branches is 74 weeks and that of Ground Duty Branches is 52 weeks at Air Force Training Establishments.
