Applications have been invited by Indian Institute of Science Education & Research, Bhopal from Indian citizens for admission to PhD Courses for the December session 2011 in the following areas:

Biological Sciences
Chemical Sciences
Earth & Environmental Sciences
Mathematical Sciences
Physical Sciences

Eligibility:
Minimum Qualifications: MSc Degree (minimum 55% marks) with a valid GATE / UGC / CSIR / JEST / ICMR / DBT / NBHM or any other recognized score.
Reservation will be 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and 27% for OBC (Non-creamy layer) for the year 2011-12. Also up to 3% reservation shall apply as per Government of India rules for persons with physically disable candidates.

Age limit:
The applicant should not have completed 28 years on 1st August 2011. Age limit will be relaxed by 5 years in the case of SC / ST / PH candidates

Fellowships:
Financial aid (Assistantship / Scholarship) will be provided.

Ph.D. Admissions 2011

Applications have been invited from highly motivated students for admission to the Ph.D. programme beginning in August 2011 at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Thiruvananthapuram.

Eligibility criteria:

(i) Biological Sciences:
Candidates must satisfy any one of the following criterions:

1. Masters degree in Biological/Chemical/Physical/Mathematical/ Allied Medical Sciences or a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Medicine. 60% marks or equivalent is desirable.

2. Qualifying in one of the following national level tests with validity as on 1st of August 2011: CSIR-UGC-JRF/DBT-JRF/GATE/ICMR JRF. The second requirement (qualifying in a national test) is waived for applicants interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution.

(ii) Chemical Sciences:
Masters degree in Chemistry with 60% marks or equivalent is desirable. Candidates should qualify CSIR-UGC-JRF/GATE with validity as on 1st of August 2011.

(iii) Physical Sciences:

Masters degree in Physical Sciences, Engineering or Technology in areas closely related to the interests of the physics faculty at IISER TVM. 60% marks or equivalent is desirable. Qualifying in one of the following national level tests with validity as on 1st of August 2011: GATE/CSIR-UGC-JRF. Applicants with M. Tech need a GATE score valid as of 1st August 2010.

(iv) Mathematical Sciences:
Candidates must satisfy any one of the following criterion:

1. Master’s degree in Mathematics / Statistics / in a relevant area of science with desired CPI of 6.5 (or 60% of marks) and a valid CSIR-UGC-JRF/NBHM/GATE as on 1st August 2011.

2. Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology in a relevant area with desired CPI of 6.5 (or 60% of marks) with valid GATE score as on 1st August 2010.

3. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology in a relevant area with a desired CPI of 7.0 (or 65% of marks), an appearance in the Indian National Math Olympiad (INMO) in class XI or XII, and a valid CSIR-UGC-JRF/NBHM/GATE as on 1st August 2011.
