Applications are invited by Indian Institute of
Technology, Povai, Mumbai, for admission to the M.Tech., M.Tech.+Ph.D. (Dual
Degree) Ph.D., and M.Phil. Programmes for the Academic Year 2015-16 starting
from July 2015.
ELIGIBILITY:
M.Tech.:
General Eligibility for M.Tech. Programmes in all
Departments/ Centres/ Schools/ ID groups/ CrossDepartments:
Candidates with First class or 60% (55% marks for
SC/ST) marks in B.E./B.Tech./ B.Sc. (Engg.)/ M.Sc. /M.CA / MBBS / M.Pharm/
B.Pharm (4 yr. Degree)/ BDS (4 yr. Degree)/ Associate Membership Examinations
conducted by recognized professional bodies (like Institution of Engrs.
(India), Institute of Chemical Engrs., Aeronautical Society of India, Institute
of Electronics & Telecommunication Engrs., Indian Institute of Metals
etc.,) and recognized as equivalent to B.E. / B.Tech. Degree.
Admission for IIT B.Tech. degree holders:
Candidate having an IIT B.Tech. degree and having a
CGPA/CPI score of 8.00 and above are exempted from requirement of GATE qualification.
They will be admitted to M.Tech. Programme under TA/RA positions through
written test and/or interview.
M.Tech. + Ph.D. (Dual Degree):
Candidates eligible for admission to M.Tech.
Progamme are also eligible for M.Tech.+ Ph.D. Dual Degree Programme, in certain
disciplines/ specializations. There is a common application for M.Tech. and
M.Tech.+ Ph.D. (Dual Degree) Programme.
Candidates after getting admission to M.Tech.
Programme will be considered for M.Tech.+Ph.D. (Dual Degree) Programme if they have
opted for it in the application.
Ph.D.:
General Eligibility criterion for Admission in all
Departments/ Centres/Schools/ID Groups.
One of the following in appropriate subject areas:
First class or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) in
Master’s Degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent.
2) For Humanities and Social Sciences Department
and Industrial Design Centre: 55% marks or equivalent (50% for SC/ST) in
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/ Technology OR Master's Degree in Arts/ Social
Sciences or equivalent. Candidates meeting this requirement MUST also fulfill
one of the following additional requirements :
◦ Valid Gate Score
◦ CSIR/UGC/NBHM / DBT / DST Inspire Award or
Fellowship.
◦ Minimum of 2 years of professional work

in Engineering/ Technology require either a valid GATE score or CSIR/ UGC/
NBHM/ DBT/ DST Inspire fellowship to be considered for TA/ RAship.
This is general eligibility criterion and the
applicant must satisfy the eligibility criterion specified by the respective
Departments/Centres/ Schools/ ID Groups.
Admission for IIT B.Tech. degree holders :
Candidate having an IIT B.Tech. Degree and having a
CGPA/CPI score of 8.00 and above are exempted from requirement of GATE
qualification. They will be admitted to Ph.D. Programme under TA/RA positions
through written test /interview.
M.Phil (Planning & Development):
Candidates should satisfy at least one of the
following criteria:
1) Master’s degree in Arts, Commerce or equivalent
with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent letter grade (50% marks for SC/ST) from
a recognized university or deemed university.
2) B.Tech./M.Sc. degree or equivalent with adequate
background in Social Sciences with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent letter
grade (55% marks for SC/ST).
Admission to this programme is open to those who
qualify in M.Phil. Entrance Test (MET) / GATE/ UGCJRF/UGC LECTURERSHIP.
Those appearing for the above exams may also apply.
Those who are in service can apply as sponsored candidates. The selection will
be based on the qualifying test and interview.

For M.Tech., M.Tech.+Ph.D. (Dual Degree) and Ph.D.
Programmes, applications have to be submitted ONLINE.
For M.Phil. Programme, application have to be
submitted using downloadable application form.
Ph.D applications can be submitted ONLINE at http://www.portal.iitb.ac.in/
The application fee is as follows:
GN/OBCNC Male candidates : Rs. 300/
Third Gender (T) candidates : Rs. 300/
GN/OBCNC Female candidates : Rs. 150/
SC/ST Male candidates : Rs. 150/
SC/ST Female candidates : Rs. 150/
The fee is to be paid by Debit Card/ Credit Card/
SBI Internet Banking/ Online Payment System/ Demand Draft drawn on any
Nationalized Bank (preferably State Bank of India / Canara Bank) in favour of
"Registrar, IIT Bombay", payable at Mumbai branch.
The copy of the completed application along with
the demand draft (of the required amount) is to be sent in an envelope
superscribing on the top ‘Application for Ph.D. Programme’, to the following

Office conducts GATE, JAM, and CEED examinations for admission to postgraduate
programmes
The
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India
examination administered and conducted in eight zones across the country
jointly by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian
Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE,
Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD),
Government of India. Admission to post graduate programmes with MHRD and some
other government scholarship/assistantship at engineering colleges/institutes
in the country are open to those who qualify through GATE.
Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) is an all-India
examination administered and conducted across the country jointly by the seven
Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of Ministry of Human Resources
Development (MHRD), Government of India. JAM is an all India Entrance
examination for admission to M.Sc. (Two Year), Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree
and other post - bachelor degree programmes at IITs.
Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) is an all India examination conducted by IIT
Bombay, on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of
India. CEED is a qualifying examination for Admission to Master of Design
(M.Des.) Programmes at IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati and
IIT Kanpur, and Ph.D. Programmes in Design in some Institutes.

Gandhinagar (IITGN), Guwahati (IITG), Hyderabad (IITH), Indore (IITI), Kanpur

for the academic session 2015‐16. JAM 2015 is
open to all nationals. However, foreign nationals will be required to satisfy the

Test
Papers, Mode and Date of Examination: JAM 2015 examination will be held on
February 08, 2015 (Sunday). JAM 2015 will have seven test papers, namely,
Biological Sciences (BL), Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Geology (GG),
Mathematics (MA), Mathematical Statistics (MS) and Physics (PH), each of three
hours duration. For all the papers, JAM 2015 examination will be conducted in
ONLINE mode ONLY. A candidate can appear in either one or two test papers
subject to the restrictions of test schedule given below and by paying an
additional fee for the second test paper.

A candidate can register and apply
ONLINE only for JAM 2015 from September 03, 2014 to October 09, 2014. The
application fee can be paid either online or through challan via State Bank of
India. Additional bank charges may apply for the above transactions. In case a
candidate chooses to pay through challan, then the challan payment should be
made in cash at any SBI branch latest by September 30, 2014 (Tuesday). The
application fee is non refundable. The candidates are advised to visit the JAM
2015 website regularly for any updates.
MINIMUM
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION(S) FOR ADMISSION

IISc Bangalore: First class (as declared by the university) for Un‐Reserved/OBC
category candidates and second class (as declared by the University) or 50%

the qualifying degree.

IIT Guwahati: At least (a) 55% marks or 6.0 CPI in a scale of 10, without
rounding off, in Major/Honors and Pass in all other subjects, including Languages
and Subsidiaries or (b) 60% aggregate marks or 6.5 CPI in a scale of 10,
without rounding off, taking into account all subjects, including Languages and
Subsidiaries, all years combined, for Un‐Reserved/OBC(NCL)
Category Candidates; and at least (a) 50% marks or 5.5 CPI in a scale of 10,
without rounding off, in Major/Honors and pass in all other subjects, including
Languages and Subsidiaries, or (b) 55% aggregate marks or 6.0 CPI in a scale of
10, without rounding off, taking into account all subjects, including Languages
and Subsidiaries, all years combined, for SC/ST and PwD Category
Candidates, in the qualifying degree.
For
all other IITs: At least 55% aggregate marks, without rounding off, (taking
into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years
combined) for Un‐Reserved/OBC Category candidates and at
least 50% aggregate marks, without rounding off, (taking into account all subjects,
including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for SC/ST and PwD
Category candidates in the qualifying degree.
For
candidates with letter grades/CGPA (instead of percentage of marks) the
equivalence in percentage of marks will be decided by the admitting institute(s).
Note:
Proof of having passed the qualifying degree with required eligibility,
as specified by the admitting institute should be submitted by Sept 30,
2015. Reservation Policy is as per Government of India norms.
JOINT ADMISSION
PROCEDURE
Admission
to the above mentioned academic programmes in IISc Bangalore and IITs for the
academic session 2015‐16 will be made on the basis of all
India merit list of JAM 2015. For some of the programmes at IISc, IITB, IITK
and IITM, the short listed candidates will additionally have to appear for an
interview. Candidates who qualify in any test paper of JAM 2015 shall be
eligible to apply for admission to all the academic programmes corresponding to
that test paper, provided they also satisfy the minimum educational
qualifications and the eligibility requirements, as specified by the
Institute(s) in which the admission is sought. After the declaration of JAM
2015 results, qualified candidates shall be required to apply to the Organizing
Institute (IIT Guwahati) specifying their preferences for the programmes for
which the admission is sought. Candidates should note that being in the merit
list of any test paper neither guarantees nor provides any automatic
entitlement for admission. Further details regarding admissions, prescribed
fees, etc., shall be available on the JAM 2015 website.

Courses & Eligibility:
MTech:
A) Candidates with First class or 60% marks in BE / BTech / BSc (Engg.) / MSc / MCA / MBBS / MPharm / BPharm (4 yr. Degree) / BDS (4 yr. degree) or equivalent Bachelor’s degree in appropriate branches (55% marks for SC / ST) (as specified in the clause '9' in the 'Important Guidelines for MTech' of the MTech Information Brochure 2012-13) and a valid GATE score are eligible to apply for various MTech Programmes. For candidates with an MBBS background, qualification in MCI / PGI Chandigarh / AIIMS / AFMC Pune / post graduate entrance exam is required for BME MTech programme.
B) Candidates with Associate Membership Examinations (AMIE etc.)
Candidates who have passed the Associate Membership Examinations conducted by recognized professional bodies (like Institution of Engrs. (India), Institute of Chemical Engrs., Aeronautical Society of India, Institute of Electronics & Telecommunication Engrs., Indian Institute of Metals etc.,) are also eligible to apply for the appropriate MTech programmes, provided they fulfill the following requirements:
i. the above examinations are recognized as equivalent to BE / BTech Degree.
ii. candidates MUST have obtained a First Class or 60% marks (55% marks for SC / ST candidates)* in the above examinations.

Admission to this programme is open to those who qualify in MPhil Entrance Test (MET) / GATE / UGC JRF / UGC Lecturership.
Those appearing for the above exams may also apply. Those who are in service can apply as sponsored candidates. The selection will be based on the qualifying test and interview.

About CEED
Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) is an all India examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India.
The objective of CEED is to assess the candidate’s aptitude for design, involving visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning, creativity, and communication skills.
What is new in CEED 2012?
CEED 2012 examination will be conducted on Sunday, 4th December, 2011 between 14:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs. This is approximately one month earlier than previous years.
The examination will be conducted in two Parts, A and B. All candidates must answer both Parts.
PART-A is a screening test.
PART-B will be evaluated for candidates who will be short-listed in the screening test
1.2 Programmes: CEED is a qualifying examination for the following postgraduate
programmes in design:
(a) Master of Design Programmes
IISc Bangalore: M.Des. in Product Design and Engineering*
IIT Bombay: M.Des. in (i) Industrial Design, (ii) Visual Communication,
(iii) Animation, (iv) Interaction Design, (v) Mobility and Vehicle Design.
IIT Delhi: M.Des. in Industrial Design
IIT Guwahati: M.Des. in Design
IIT Kanpur: M.Des. in Industrial Design*
*GATE qualified candidates will also be considered for admission to these programmes.
(b) Ph.D Programmes in Design (IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay)

Eligibility for CEED 2012: Candidates must either have completed or be expecting to complete any of the following, by July 2012:
(i) Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design or equivalent
(ii) Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent of 4 years duration after 10+2)
(iii) B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)
(iv) G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience
(v) Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications
The candidate is responsible for showing eligibility while seeking admission to the specific programme in which they are interested.
There is no age limit and a candidate can appear in CEED any number of times.
Application Form and Brochure: CEED Application Form must be submitted online, through the website www.iitb.ac.in/gate . The application fee (non refundable) is Rs. 950/- (Rs. 475/- for SC/ST/PD Applicants).
Application Submission:
The application may be submitted in person at the counter of GATE Office, IIT Bombay or mailed only by Registered Post or Speed Post so as to reach the GATE Office, IIT Bombay on or before 14th October 2011. The mailing address is:

The examination is from 1400 hours to 1700 hours on Sunday, 4th December, 2011 and will not have any break.
Candidates should report to the examination centre, at least half an hour before the scheduled commencement of the examination. Most of the centres are located outside the main city and candidates may have to walk a good distance from the campus main gate to reach the examination venue.
The seating arrangement will be displayed on the notice board of the examination centre.
A candidate has to bring his/her own pencils of different grades (e.g. H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B etc.), sketch pens, poster colors, and other drawing materials for the examination. No drawing sheets have to be brought.
The question paper will be in English. No specific text book or guide book is recommended for preparation. Candidates may however polish up their drawing, rendering and visualization skills.

Eligibility for CEED 2012:
Candidates must either have completed or be expecting to complete any of the following, by July 2012:
(i) Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design or equivalent
(ii) Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent of 4 years duration after 10+2)
(iii) B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)
(iv) G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience
(v) Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications
The candidate is responsible for showing eligibility while seeking admission to the specific programme in which they are interested.
There is no age limit and a candidate can appear in CEED any number of times.
