NFP Internship Programme 2012
An Internship scheme is initiated at the Institute for Plasma Research (IPR) under National Fusion Programme (NFP) sponsored by the Board Of Research In Fusion Science & Technology (BRFST). Applications are invited from Post Graduate Students (in Science, Engineering, Technology and Management), with good academic record, of recognized Institutes / Universities for NFP Internship Programme. Students interested in research areas related to science & technology of Fusion research/ Plasma physics are encouraged to apply for undertaking projects at IPR on various areas mentioned below, under the supervision of IPR scientists/engineers. Students can start their projects from semester beginning either around July or January, depending on the schedule of their curriculum.
WHO CAN APPLY:
Post Graduate Students in Science, Engineering & Management
ELIGIBILITY:
Post Graduate (M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc./M.Phil/M.C.A.) students, who have to do projects as a part of their curriculum of their Post Graduate Studies in any of the following disciplines : Physical/Chemical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Inter-Disciplinary Engineering Sciences and Computer Applications.
Only bonafide and full-time students can apply. Those who have already completed their course are not eligible to apply.
NOT more than TWO students can be offered the NFP Internships from the same Discipline/Department under an Institution/College/University.
AREAS OF PROJECT:
Plasma Theory and simulations, Advanced Material Technologies, First Wall Engineering, Cryogenic and Magnet Technologies, RF & Microwave Technologies, Beam Technologies, Power Engineering Technologies, Advanced Data Acquisition and control Engineering, Nuclear Technologies, Plasma Diagnostics, Fusion Technology Management. Please refer to the NFP document for more details on projects. For further information regarding projects, please contact NFP.
NATURE OF PROJECT WORK:
Experimental, Theoretical, Computational projects in the above-mentioned areas.
DURATION OF THE PROJECT:
Selected students will carry out their project work at IPR for a duration of minimum 3 months to maximum 12 months according to their curriculum.
FELLOWSHIP:
A consolidated stipend of Rs 10,000/- per month (with effect from 1-Jan-2011), and also to & fro sleeper class train fare (by the shortest route, once during the stay) will be given to ONLY those students who are NOT getting financial support from any other funding agency.

Interested students are advised to send in the completed application form in the prescribed format, along with TWO CONFIDENTIAL recommendation letters (from two different faculty members who have known you during your academic sessions) and a certificate of undertaking as per the attached format from their parent organization, to the following address ;

The aim of the proposed annual plasma scholars’ colloquium is to motivate and provide adequate exposure to young researchers working towards their PhD in various areas of plasma science & technology. The colloquium will have oral as well as poster presentations and ALL participants are expected to present posters. The colloquium will also include popular talks by eminent scientists, interactions with experts at IPR as well as visits to labs at IPR.
WHO CAN APPLY:
The colloquium is open ONLY to research scholars/Post-Docs working in the area of theoretical or experimental plasma science & technology. Other participants are welcome to attend at their own expense.
There is NO registration fee.
HOW TO APPLY:
Application form is available on the PSSI website. Last date for registration is 15th April 2012. Only online applications will be accepted. The colloquium will be held at the Institute for Plasma Research, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. IPR is India’s premier institute involved in R&D of plasma science & technology and nuclear fusion. The number of participants is limited to 50 and selected participants will be provided to and fro AC/3T rail fare and shared accommodation.
PROCEEDINGS:
The proceedings of the colloquium will be published and provided to the participants. Full papers of accepted abstracts have to be submitted using the template provided on the website.

Technical Training Programme 2011
Applications have been invited for the Technical Trainee Programme-2011 for entry-level career opportunities available at:
1. Institute for Plasma Research (IPR) where basic plasma physics and domestic fusion program activities are pursued and the Facilitation Center for Industrial Plasma Technologies (FCIPT), a division of IPR, which is engaged in the development and transfer of plasma technologies relevant to industries.
2. ITER-India, a specially empowered project within IPR, to deliver India’s commitments (involving state of the art technology and R&D) towards International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) being constructed at Cadarache, France, under an international partnership agreement.
Eligibility Criteria:
1. Acceptable disciplines - Candidates can apply in one of the following disciplines:
Physics (Qualification: MSc in Physics / Applied Physics after a BSc degree OR MTech after a BSc degree with Physics as a subject OR an Integrated MSc, BE / BTech in Engg. Physics is also eligible, provided it is a minimum of 4 years curriculum after Class XII.)
Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Chemical, Metallurgy/Material Science, Mechanical & Instrumentation (Qualification: BE / BTech / BSc (Engg.), provided it is a minimum 4 years curriculum after Class XII in the appropriate discipline. MSc in Materials Science can apply for Metallurgy / Material Science)
2. Only Indian Citizens can apply for this programme.
3. Only those candidates who have received their qualifying degree in the year 2010 or are going to receive by 1st September 2011 need apply.
4. Only those candidates who have secured a minimum of 60% and first class in the qualifying degree need apply.
5. If candidate is still in the final year of his / her qualifying degree and expect to complete the degree by 1st September 2011, he / she may apply. However, he / she must be in a position to furnish mark sheet for VI AND VII or at least V and VI semesters (or MSc Ist year marks in case of Physics). These mark sheets should indicate that he/she have at least 60% in each of these two semesters or in MSc Ist year.
6. Those applying for engineering disciplines should have completed BE / BTech in their respective disciplines in first class from a Government recognized university.
7. Those applying for Physics disciplines should have completed MSc in Physics / Applied Physics / Engineering Physics from a Government recognized university with first class. Candidates with specialization in Production Engg / Industrial Engg / Bio-Medical Engg. are NOT eligible.
8. Membership of Professional bodies in the field of Engineering does not qualify a candidate to apply unless he / she have the above mentioned Qualifying Degree from a recognized University / Institute.
9. Candidates already having a PhD, ME or MTech need not apply.
Age Limit:
Only those candidates who are born on or after 1st September 1985 need apply.
Training & Stipend:
The course is compulsorily residential and the selected candidates shall stay at the accommodation provided by IPR. The training comprises of lectures, laboratory and project work. During training period the trainee will be paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 16000/- and a one-time book allowance of Rs. 10000/-.
