ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ADMISSION TO THE M.PHIL AND PH.D. PROGRAMMES 2012
This is an announcement for admission to the Integrated M.Phil & Ph.D. programme and direct Ph.D. Programme (academic year 2012-2013) with the various Schools and Independent Centres at the TISS. UGC JRF qualified candidates, post graduates, students in the final year post graduation in Social Sciences and allied fields and individuals with M.Phil and / or industrial, academic and field base experience in Social Sciences, Social work and allied fields are invited to apply.

About the Programme:
Integrated M. Phil – Ph. D. programme is a five year full time programme offered from TISS campuses as applicable. For M. Phil in Education, Women's Studies and Development Studies there will be a subject specific taught M. Phil. Programme of four semesters. All the other candidates admitted in the Integrated M. Phil – Ph. D programme will undergo a common course work in Research Methodology. The programme has one semester of course work and three semesters of research work. Candidates with post graduate degree in Social Sciences, Social work and related fields can apply for the M.Phil programme.
Ph.D. programme can be pursued from all the TISS campuses, as applicable. Selected candidates can pursue Ph. D. either by staying on TISS campuses (if accommodation is available) or from whichever location they are in. TISS does not make any distinction among research scholars as full time and part time. However, selected candidates physically not present on the Campus, are expected to be in touch with the research guide, fulfill the necessary requirements of the Ph.D. programme, pay fees regularly, submit progress reports. The candidates who have not completed their M.Phil and are selected for Direct Ph.D., are expected to fulfill course work requirement either by attending regular courses held at the respective campuses OR by attending the Modular workshops offered every semester. This is a compulsory requirement.

Application Form and Prospectus can also be downloaded from the link below and send by post to TISS, along with a Bank challan of Rs. 800/- (deposited in any branch of the State Bank of India).
Request for Application Form and Prospectus by POST or in person may be addressed to Section Officer (DSO & Meetings) along with a ank challan of Rs. 800/- (deposited in any branch of the State Bank of India).
Filled in application forms with all requisite enclosures should reach the TISS on April 8, 2012.
The Application fee is not refundable.
Reservation Policy:
TISS adheres to the reservation of seats SC, ST, OBC and PWD as per the Government of India norms.
SC/ST candidates are required to submit a copy of their Caste and Parents’ Income (Below Rs. 1,00,000/-) Certificate for exemption of application fee of Rs. 800/-.
Traveling Allowance (TA) is paid to all the eligible SC/ST candidates for attending Written Test and Personal Interview to be held in Mumbai. For claiming TA, candidates are required to submit original travel tickets along with filled - in TA form.
Admission Process:
All eligible candidates who apply for Integrated M.Phil & Ph.D. programme and direct Ph.D. Programme will be invited for the Written Test (Research Aptitude Test (RAT)) and Personal Interview to be held at the TISS Mumbai Campus on or between 1st to 4th May, 2012.
Candidates who have cleared JRF in the past two years are also expected to attend the Written Test and Personal Interview.*
Candidates who have GATE and any other relevant scores are also expected to take the RAT.
The model paper and rules for the Research Aptitude Test (RAT) will be put up on the TISS website by early April 2012.
Apart from the fulfillment of academic criteria the short listing of applicants for the Written Test and Personal Interviews for Integrated M. Phil – Ph. D. programme and direct Ph. D. programme is linked to the statement of purpose/ research proposal and the domain expertise available at the Schools / Centre.
The shortlist for all the programmes will be displayed on the TISS website by middle of April and email communications will be sent to the candidates.
Candidates with visual impairment will have to indicate the impairment in the application form. They will be provided with a writer for the written test.
Selection will be completed by end of May and the information will be uploaded on the TISS website.
Selected candidates are expected to pay fees by end of June 2012.
All the programmes will begin from the middle of June 2012.

"Child Development Aide" (CDA) Certificate Course Admissions 2012
Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has invited applications for admission to one-year certificate course viz. "Child Development Aide" (CDA) commencing on August 1, 2012.
The program focuses on a 'family based trans-disciplinary approach' to interventions for child development. It aims towards training a community worker towards developing skills required for:
* Promoting typical child development.
* Educating the community about prevention of disability.
* Identifying children at risk for or having developmental disabilities.
* Carrying out simple interventions through structured play and educational activities to address the developmental needs of children.
Entry Requirement:
* Class Ten graduate who is committed to completing the training program and implement the learned skills in the community.
* Fluent in spoken and written Hindi.
* Preference will be given to parents of children with disabilities and/or community workers working with children from underprivileged background.
Fees Structure:
Fees for a candidate for the entire one year training will be Rs. 25000/-. There will be no fees for the candidates who are sponsored by 'Not for Profit' organizations.

Center for Social Justice and Governance, School of Social work, Tata Institute of Social Sciences is pleased to annouce admissions to the full time Dual Degree in Management of Voluntary Organizations for the academic year 2011-12.
Government responses to threat of terrorism since the 2001 have placed enhanced restrictions and regulations that directly affect the voluntary sector as a whole and particular voluntary organizations individually. In this context, managing voluntary organizations has become an immensely challenging task because it requires human and organizational flexibility without compromising on vision mission, accountability and transparency goals of the organization. It requires managerial skills of highest order tailored specifically towards the context and value bases of the voluntary sector. The inputs provided in the current two year regular programme has proved inadequate.
Many middle-level functionaries have been demanding advanced educational inputs for coping with the challenges faced by them in managing their respective organizations. To respond to the need, this programme on Management of Voluntary Organizations is being introduced and focuses on management of those voluntary organizations engaged in developmental work aimed to improve the quality of life of the marginalized sections. This programme is intended to build analytical, research, finanacial management capacities of functionaries and to prepare them for leadership positions in voluntary organizations engaged in social development.
The academic schedule of the programme is planned in such a way that 10 courses which are mainly taught courses out of a total of fourteen courses will be completed in the first semester.
Duration of the first semester will be 27 weeks (Phase I). At the end of the first semester, the students will be required to do eight weeks of internship (Phase II) and prepare a project report based on their internship. The four courses of the second semester have to be learnt by doing during the internship. Orientation and reading material for the four courses of the second semester will be given to students before commencement of their internship. As a result, and the duration of the second semester will be 5 weeks of classes (Phase III).
