About the
Program
In order to make the current Indian Higher Education
System more relevant and career-oriented with focus on quality and excellence,
UGC has started re-orienting and reshaping its programs and policies. It is
envisaged that professionally qualified graduates with a sound knowledge of
their core disciplines and expertise in a concerned skill will have more
openings in service industry and self-employment sectors. Demand and scope for
such professionally trained graduates are visible in the applied fields of
almost all basic/core disciplines and faculties in the current changing global
scenario and is likely to increase in the future.
Healthcare technologies have attracted the attention
of researchers both in academia and industry in the last decade. It is projected
that Healthcare is going to be very prominent service industry in the years to
come. There has been an acute shortage of medical facilities in many developing
countries, the worst hit being the remote rural population which is almost totally
deprived of medical care. This alarming trend prompted the technologists and
medical practitioners to come up with solutions where the information and communication
technologies can be best utilized.
In order to meet the above goals, there is a strong
need to come up with educational programs that addresses the healthcare related
domain technologies. In India, the technology courses offered do not specifically
cater to the healthcare related developments. It was therefore, perceived that
there is a need for systematic and comprehensive training opportunities in the management
of informatics in the healthcare sector for everybody involved in healthcare
worldwide.
Objective
The Advanced Diploma in Healthcare Informatics and
Management (ADHIM) aims to equip the students with competencies in health
system informatics such as system integration, network administration and
management. The curriculum promotes an interdisciplinary and comprehensive
approach to issues related to health systems and provision of IT related health
services. The course is designed to provide multiple opportunities to students
to practice system administration skills and foster critical thinking about the
issues to be addressed by them.

The health informatics professionals find ample
employment opportunities in Hospitals, Private healthcare services, Drug stores
and optical goods manufacturers, Health insurance companies, Medical equipment
and drug wholesales, Pharmaceutical companies, Medical suppliers, Medical
equipment manufacturers, Health charities, Clinical research organizations.
Eligibility
The program is career and market-oriented, skill
enhancing course introduced under “Career Oriented Program” of UGC.
Students pursuing / completed conventional B.Sc.
degrees (any discipline) in any recognized institute/college or equivalent are
eligible to apply.
Course Fee
The course fee is Rs. 4000/- per semester.
