ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

I. M Sc DEGREE IN NURSING (2 YEARS)
Eligible for the programme is a candidate who

1. has completed B Sc (N)/B Sc. Hons./Post Basic B Sc Nursing with minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
2. has undergone a full time (regular stream not distance mode) programme in B Sc (N)/B Sc Hons.Nursing/Post Basic B Sc (N) in an institution recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
3. has minimum of one year of work experience after Basic B Sc (N) as on 30th April 2009 in any institution / hospital or as a full time Public Health Nurse..
4. has minimum of one year of work experience prior or after Post Basic B Sc (N).
5. has registered with the State Nursing Council for Nursing and Midwifery.
6. has passed any other course prescribed by INC in place of Midwifery (applicable to male candidates) registered with the State Nursing Council. These candidates would be unable to apply for admission to M Sc (N) – Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing irrespective of their experience in the area.
7. is medically fit.
8. obtains the Eligibility Certificate from the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai at the time of final registration.


II. B Sc NURSING FOR TRAINED NURSES (2 YEARS)
Eligible for this programme is a candidate who
1. has a Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery
2. is a Registered Nurse and Midwife, registered with the Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council or any other State Nursing Council.
3. has passed the alternate course prescribed by INC in place of Midwifery (applicable to male candidates) and registered with the State Nursing Council.
4. has a minimum of 2 years of work experience after temporary/permanent registration on or before 15th July 2009, in any institution / hospital or as a full time Public Health Nurse.
5. is medically fit.
6. obtains Eligibility Certificate from the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai at the time of final registration.



III. FELLOWSHIP IN NURSING (1 YEAR)
A. Fellowship in Family Nurse Practice
B. Fellowship in Haematology Nursing
C. Fellowship in Respiratory Nursing


Eligible for these programmes are candidates who
1. have completed B Sc Nursing / B Sc Nursing for Trained Nurses.
2. is a graduate nurse with a minimum of one year of work experience as on 15th July 2009 in any clinical area in the hospital or in the community.
2. is a Registered Nurse and a Registered Midwife.
3. have passed the alternate course prescribed by INC in place of Midwifery and registered with the State Nursing Council (applicable for male candidates).

Fellowship in Family Nurse Practice:
This Fellowship is designed to prepare nurses for advanced nursing practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner. A Family Nurse Practitioner is a registered graduate nurse who undergoes additional advanced preparation to provide primary health care to clients across the life span, primarily in families and ambulatory care settings, practicing in collaboration with a physician/surgeon.

Fellowship in Haematology Nursing :
The Fellowship in Haematology Nursing programme is directed towards the preparation of nurses for advanced practice of nursing in Haematology. The programme enables nurses to analyze the physiological, psychological, socio-cultural, developmental and spiritual factors that influence individual and family health outcomes. Haematology nurse is a registered nurse who undergoes additional advanced preparation to provide specialized health care to haematology clients across the life span, primarily in the out patient care settings, BMT unit and in the Haematology wards.

Fellowship in Respiratory Nursing :
The Fellowship in Respiratory Nursing programme is directed towards the preparation of nurses for advanced practice in Respiratory Nursing. The programme enables nurses to analyze the physiological, psychological, socio-cultural, developmental and spiritual factors that influence the individual and family members. It also enables the student to apply nursing strategies that incorporates the educational, ethical and socio-cultural dimensions of health-illness paradigm to the delivery of health care to patients with respiratory problems.
Respiratory Nurse is a registered nurse who undergoes additional advanced preparation to provide health care to patients with a variety of respiratory diseases in outpatient as well as the inpatient setting as assistant to the pulmonary physicians in doing specialized procedures such as Bronchoscopy, Thoracoscopy etc.

IV. POST BASIC DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES (1 YEAR)
Eligible for the programme if a candidate who

1. has a B Sc /Diploma in Nursing with a minimum of one year of work experience as on 15th July 2009 in any clinical area in the hospital or in the community.
2. is a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife.
3. has passed the alternate course prescribed by INC in place of Midwifery and registered with the State Nursing Council (applicable for male candidates).
NOTE: Fellowship in nursing programmes and Post Basic Diploma nursing programmes will be conducted only if the stipulated percentage of candidates is present for the interview in each branch.



SPONSORSHIP
Sponsorship is a privilege whereby weightage is given to candidates during selection. The sponsored students are expected to understand the spirit of service and compassion for the less fortunate, which is integral to CMC.
During selection weightage is given to students sponsored by Diocese / Missionary organizations which are members of the CMC Vellore Association, and have been granted sponsorship privileges.

Sponsorship application forms are available with offices of these organizations and Diocese.
Sponsorship forms are not directly available to the candidate from the College of Nursing.



ELIGIBILITY FOR SPONSORSHIP
a. M.Sc. Nursing

Candidates who served for a minimum period of 2 years in a hospital of a supporting body after completion of the course and training period of Basic B Sc Nursing programme.

For candidates applying for M Sc nursing after B Sc Nursing for Trained Nurses, their experience in a supporting mission hospital after their Diploma Nursing will be taken into consideration.
These candidates have to enclose experience certificate from mission hospitals after their Diploma Nursing and Midwifery programme along with their application for sponsorship.

b. B Sc Nursing for Trained Nurses
Candidates who have served for a minimum period of 2 years in a hospital of a supporting body after the completion of course and training period of Diploma Nursing and Midwifery programme.

c. Fellowship in Nursing programmes
Candidates who have served for a minimum period of 2 years in a hospital of a supporting body after completion of course and training period of B Sc Nursing / B Sc Nursing for Trained Nurses programme.

d. Post Basic Diploma programmes in Nursing
Candidates who have served for a minimum period of 2 years in a hospital of a supporting body after completion of course and training period of Diploma Nursing and Midwifery or Basic B.Sc.Nursing or B.Sc.Nursing for Trained Nurses programme.
Candidates who do not meet the above criteria will be treated as open even if they are sponsored by a sponsoring body.

Sponsored candidates are called to serve in the hospitals or outreach medical work of their sponsoring body for a specific period of time (not less than two years) as decided by that organization, immediately after the completion of their study programme. The candidate has to sign a service undertaking with the sponsoring body at the time of sponsorship. A copy of this undertaking is to be sent to the College of Nursing along with the sponsorship form by the sponsoring body.


Sponsorship will be on the basis of the need of the sponsoring body in having trained personnel for their mission work. The sponsoring body has to give an undertaking that a post will be available when the candidate completes the study programme. NO FEE OR DONATION are to be paid other than the stipulated registration fee for sponsorship which should not exceed Rs.250/-.

The obligation for sponsorship should only be in terms of service and not financial compensation.
Students who do not fulfill their obligation are not eligible for admission for any studies or for appointment as staff of Christian Medical College, Vellore. They will not be issued any certificates other than those statutory certificates mandated by the University and the State Nursing Council.

COMPLETED SPONSORSHIP FORMS ARE EXPECTED TO REACH THE REGISTRAR, COLLEGE OF NURSING, CHRISTIAN MEDICAL COLLEGE TOWN CAMPUS, DR. IDA SCUDDER ROAD, VELLORE – 632 004, NOT LATER THAN THE PRESCRIBED DATES MENTIONED IN THE PROSPECTUS.


SELECTION PROCESS
I. M Sc NURSING, B Sc NURSING FOR TRAINED NURSES, FELLOWSHIP IN NURSING AND POSE BASIC DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES IN NURSING
Candidates who have applied for M Sc Nursing, B Sc (N) for Trained Nurses, Fellowship in Nursing and Post Basic Diploma programmes in Nursing will appear for a written test in the College of Nursing, Vellore on the specified dates. This is followed by a preliminary selection to select a limited number of candidates for the final interview. The candidates appear for the same on the specified dates. The list of candidates selected for the programmes will be notified the day after the interview.

CANDIDATES ATTENDING THE INTERVIEW ARE EXPECTED TO PRODUCE ALL THE RELEVANT CERTIFICATES IN ORIGINAL AS MENTIONED IN THE PROSPECTUS.
WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL CERTIFICATES CANDIDATES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ATTEND THE INTERVIEW.

50% of the seats in each speciality in M.Sc.Nursing are reserved for sponsored candidates provided they fulfill other criteria of eligibility for admission. The waiting list is based on ranking in the final score.

NOTE: Admission to any particular programme is based on the performance in the entrance examination, interview, and weightage is given for having worked in the rural and needy areas and for their previous academic performance. Admission is subject to approval from the University and other such bodies as are applicable.

ALL SELECTED CANDIDATES WHO WISH TO ACCEPT THE SEAT OFFERED MUST GIVE IN THEIR ACCEPTANCE IN WRITING WITHIN THE PRESCRIBED DATES AS MENTIONED IN THE PROSPECTUS. FAILING TO DO THIS, THE SEAT WILL THEN BE OFFERED TO THE NEXT CANDIDATE ON THE WAITING LIST.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE
Scholarship : The College of Nursing Alumni scholarship, the TNAI scholarship and the Elizabeth Gillespie scholarship (Rs.5,000/- per year) are available for the postgraduate students. The members of the TNAI / Alumni of the College of Nursing can apply to the concerned bodies after selection.

Accommodation: Hostel accommodation is subject to availability. Post graduate students are permitted to come as day scholars.

Library: Well stocked libraries exist with facilities which include scientific journals, MEDLINE system for literature search and internet facilities.

Recreation: The institution provides and encourages a variety of extra curricular activities including music, sports, games and social service.

Staff Student Health Clinic: The medical needs of the students and staff of the Christian Medical College are met through the Staff Student Health Clinic Services.

Hepatitis B Vaccination is mandatory for all students. The selected candidates need to produce the Hepatitis B Vaccination Certificate if they have had the full course of vaccination. If the candidate has already been vaccinated or partially vaccinated any where other than CMC, the serum antibody titres are confirmed through the Staff Student Health Services. The candidate has to pay for this test.

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE:
Candidates can obtain the eligibility certificate from THE TAMILNADU DR.M.G.R. MEDICAL UNIVERSITY, CHENNAI BY APPLYING TO THE REGISTRAR, Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, No.69, Anna Salai, Guindy, Chennai – 600032, on the prescribed application form (costing Rs.25/-) which is available at the above address after remitting the prescribed fee to the University.

Application for this must be made early enough so as to obtain it in time. The candidates are expected to produce the Transfer certificate in original and the Migration certificate at the time of applying for the Eligibility Certificate.

a. The application will be entertained by the Academic Officer normally on or after 1st April of the academic year of admission except for foreign nationals who can apply earlier.
b. All applications submitted in person will be disposed off within 3 days from the time of receipt of the application by the University.
c. Required fee for issue of ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE by the University:

i. For recognition of examinations conducted by Universities / Board within India:
M Sc Nursing. - Rs.800/-
B Sc for trained nurses - Rs.500/-
ii. For recognition of examination conducted by Universities / Board outside India -
Rs.3000/-
d. The following documents are expected to be submitted along with the completed application form to the Registrar, Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, while applying for the eligibility certificate.
i. Nursing Certificates - Diploma & Degree B Sc (N)/ B Sc for Trained Nurses (in original) issued by the authority who has conducted the qualifying examination.
ii. Statement of marks (in original) issued by the authority who has conducted the qualifying examination.
iii. Experience certificate.
iv. Registration certificates (in original) - General Nursing & Midwifery /Alternate course.
v. Transfer certificate issued by the Head of the Institution where the candidate has last studied.
vi. Migration certificate issued by the University where last studied.
e. Photostat / Xerox copies of all the documents are to be enclosed along with the application in addition to the originals. The originals will be returned along with Eligibility Certificate retaining the Xerox / Photostat copies.
f. An account payee Demand Draft for Rs.500/800 or Rs.3000/- as the case may be, drawn in favour of THE REGISTRAR, TAMILNADU DR.M.G.R. MEDICAL UNIVERSITY, CHENNAI.
g. A self-addressed envelope stamped to the value of Rs.33/- as registered postal charge for the eligibility certificate.

The candidates are advised to allow at least 10 - 15 days for obtaining the Eligibility Certificate by post.
If any of their original certificates are in a language other than English, they are advised to also send an English translation of the same, duly attested by a Gazetted Officer.

THE ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE IS MANDATORY AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION TO THE PROGRAMME, FAILING WHICH THE CANDIDATE HAS TO FORFEIT HER/HIS SEAT.

PROCEDURE FOR REGISTERING WITH THE TAMILNADU NURSES AND MIDWIVES COUNCIL

For a candidate to be accepted to the programme he/she is required to register with the Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council. The address is as follows:

The application for registration with the Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council (TNNMC) is to be obtained from the TNNMC on payment of Rs.10/- for each form (require two forms for Nurse and Midwife registration). The duly filled in TNNMC registration application is to be submitted to the Council directly along with the following:
1. Registration fee Rs.390/- for each registration (Nurse, Midwife and each higher grade qualification.)
The total amount can be in the mode of demand draft drawn in favour of “Registrar, Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council” payable at Chennai.
2. Original and Xerox copies of the Nursing Degree/Diploma certificates.
3. Original and Xerox copies of the registration certificates from the State Nursing Council, where the candidate has obtained the Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
4. Xerox copies of the basic educational qualification certificates and proof of date of birth.
5. Course Completion certificate for the Nursing programme (s), mentioning clearly
the duration of the course (day, month and year).


It may take a few weeks for the TNNMC Registration Certificate to be issued. Candidates are therefore advised to bring the above mentioned documents along with them when they appear for the entrance examination and interview. The above mentioned documents and the application for the registration with the TNNMC may be submitted to the council by the candidates selected for admission.
