School of Medical Science and Technology (SMST), Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has invited applications for admission to the 3 years Post Graduate Masters in Medical Science and Technology (MMST) for MBBS graduates having aptitude in Inter-disciplinary Medical Research & Application of Technology.

The programme aims at imparting engineering skills to medical professionals and train them for the state-of-the-art medical research in frontier areas of Medical Imaging, Molecular Imaging and Image Analysis, Biomaterials and Implants, Biophysics, Medical Statistics, Telemedicine, Biomedical Instrumentation, Early Detection of Cancer, Immuno-technology, Recombinant DNA Technology, Biomedical Simulation, Wound research etc. On completion of the course, medical professionals become well equipped to fill the void that separates the medical sciences from advanced technology.

Applicant should have MBBS Degree, recognised by Medical Council of India, with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate and should have studied Mathematics at +2 level (even as additional subject) or from any recognized Open University. Selection will be based on an objective type written test of 2 hours duration to be conducted from 10 am to 12 noon on 25th April, 2010 (Sunday) at Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi.

The test will have 120 questions of one mark each with 75 questions are from MBBS syllabi and the remaining questions equally distributed to cover the syllabi of +2 level Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. The results are expected to be announced by 25th May, 2010. Those qualifying in the admission test will be called for counseling at IIT Kharagpur on 28th June 2010 before final selection. Seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates and Persons with Disability, as per Govt. of India rules.

Application can be submitted online at http://gate/iitkgp.ac.in/mmst from 1st February 2010 till 5th March 2010. Those intending to apply should first pay the Application Fee of Rs. 1000/- (General Category) or Rs. 500/- (SC/ST/PD Category), by way of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of IIT Kharagpur on any Nationalised Bank payable at Kharagpur, West Bengal. The details of the Draft are required while submitting the application online.

The printout of the online application with candidate's signature and photograph pasted at appropriate place, Demand Draft, attested copies of (i) MBBS Degree (recognized by MCI) with mark sheet as a proof of obtaining a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate (ii) Proof of having studied Mathematics at +2 level (even as an additional subject) and (iii) SC/ST/PD certificate (if applicable), must reach 'The Chairman, GATE, IIT Kharagpur, Kharagpur-721302', by 15th March 2010, by Speed Post.

Admit Card will be dispatched from 1st April 2010 to eligible candidates If Admit Card is not received by 15th April 2010, applicant may contact Chairman, GATE, IIT Kharagpur, for necessary action. The admit card should be preserved by the candidate even after the examination for the purpose of counseling.
