National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) 2010 for admission to the 5-year Integrated Masters (MSc) Programmes at the University of Mumbai-Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CBS), Mumbai, National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and Integrated Science Education and Research Centre (ISERC), Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, will be held from 2 pm to 5 pm on June 6, 2010 (Sunday) at Allahabad, Amdavad, Bangalooru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi-1 (North Delhi), Delhi-2 (South Delhi), Delhi-3 (East Delhi), Gaya, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata-1 (North Kolkata), Kolkata-2 (South Kolkata), Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai-1 (Central Mumbai), Mumbai-2 (Western Suburbs), Nagpur, Panjim, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Shillong, Shimla, Silcher, Siliguri, Srinagar, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam.

The question paper for NEST will be in English and will consist of five sections, General (Section 1), Biology (2), Chemistry (3), Mathematics (4) and Physics (5). The first (General) section is compulsory for all students and will carry 60 marks. Of the remaining four sections (2 -5), applicant will have to select any two, each of which carries 70 marks.

The total mark is 200. The questions, aimed at testing the subject comprehension and analytic ability of the candidates, will be of objective type with four options given for each question. Some questions may have more than one correct answer. For some questions in sections 2 to 5, incorrect answers will be awarded negative marks. The question paper will contain explicit instructions in this regard.

Syllabus for the NEST is broadly the same as the CBSE syllabus up to class XII and is given in Appendix II of the Information Brochure available at http://www.nestexam.in/NEST%20brochure.pdf Applicant should have passed Class XII or equivalent qualifying examination from any recognized Board of education in India, in 2008 or 2009 or should be appearing in 2010 and should have secured/should secure an aggregate of at least 60% marks or equivalent grade. SC/ST applicants and Persons with Disability (PD) need only 55%. If Letter grade is given by a Board, a Certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required, in the absence of which, the decision of the Admissions Committee of the concerned institutions will be final.

General/OBC category applicants should be born on or after October 1, 1985. Relaxation of 5 years is allowed for SC/ST/PD applicants.Application fee is Rs. 500/- for Male General and Male OBC applicants and Rs.250/- for Male SC/ST/PD applicants and all Female applicants. This has to be sent with the filled application by way of a Demand Draft/Postal Order drawn in favour of 'NEST-2010', payable at Mumbai.

Application can be submitted on-line at http://www.nestexam till March 16, 2010, following the instructions given there. After filling the application online, a print-out of the same has to be taken, a photograph pasted at the appropriate place and the application sent along with the DD for towards application fee.

Application form and Brochure can be obtained by Post, from 'The Chief Coordinator, NEST-2010, UM-DAE CBS, Health Centre Building, University of Mumbai (Vidyanagari Campus), Santa Cruz (E), Mumbai, 400 098', till February 16, 2010, by sending a request for the same.

Completed application forms with application fee must reach 'The Chief Coordinator, NEST-2010, UM-DAE CBS, Health Centre Building, University of Mumbai (Vidyanagari Campus), Santa Cruz (E), Mumbai, 400 098' by Registered/Speed Post only, latest by March 16, 2010.

Admit cards can be downloaded from http://www.nestexam.in from April 1, 2010. Those who are unable to download the admit cards by April 15, 2010 will have their admit cards sent to them by ordinary post. In case applicant does not receive the admit card by May 25, 2010, he/she may write to Chief Coordinator, NEST-2010 by speed post or by email at cco@nestexam.in

Results of NEST will be announced on June 30, 2010 at http://www.nestexam.in. Further details regarding admission to the participating institutes based on the NEST-2010 results will be made available on their websites.

There are 60 seats at NISER, 30 at UM-DAE CBS and 21 at ISERC for the 2010 session.

All students admitted to CBS and NISER are assured a full scholarship. All students admitted to Visva-Bharati are eligible for the INSPIRE scholarship.
Reservations will be as per Government norms.

General Instructions
 
Candidates must reach the examination center at least 30 minutes before the beginning of the test.

 
Candidates will not be allowed to leave the examination hall until one hour after the beginning of the test.

 
Use of any computational aides including log tables and calculators will not be permitted.

 
Candidates MUST bring their admit card with them.

 
Use of any communication devices including mobile phones is strictly forbidden.

Have the two centers of your choice been selected and marked in the form?

Errors in the above could lead to problems in processing your application

Ensure that your name and address is written legibly.
