Diploma in Ergonomics (DErg)
ADMISSION BROCHURE - 2012
APPLICATION FORM

Ergonomics (Manav Karya Vigyan) is a scientific discipline that concerns with the interactions between the human, the artifacts and the working environment where people participate.
Ergonomics professionals acquire specialization in making the products and workplaces more efficient, usable and safer. The knowledge and skill of ergonomics professionals covers wide area of specializations, which include occupational health and safety, human workload measurement, health monitoring, product design, job analysis, job design, workstation design, evaluation of workenvironment, measurement of human capacity and capabilities, information design, cognitive system design and others. To meet this demand, Industrially Developed Countries (IDCs) are already offering certification programmes in Ergonomics to produce Certified Ergonomics Professionals, e.g., Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics (BCPE) in USA, Harmonizing European Training Programmes for the Ergonomics Profession (HETPEP) for European Countries. In India and in South East Asia, such a professional programme in Ergonomics is lacking.
To fill this lacuna, NITIE, through TIFAC CORE in Ergonomics and Human Factors Engineering, is offering offering aa Diploma Diploma inin Ergonomics Ergonomics ((DErg DErg)) programme programme.. The The programme programme isis developed developed based based on Ergonomist Formation Model by Rookmaaker et al. (1992). The programme will provide the general breadth of knowledge and commonly accepted tools and techniques for analysis of human performance in an existing man-machine environment system with overall idea on the implementation of ergonomic evaluation process.

Objectives
• To provide a general awareness about the importance of ergonomic approach in product design and healthcare related issues.
• To provide the basic framework to handle ergonomic related problems and produce user-centered products.
• To improve the professional image of Indian and south east Asian ergonomics professional in a competitive world market.
• To provide knowledge on analysis and assessment of human interactions in a work-environment system.

ABOUT NITIE
NITIE was incepted in 1963 to deliver a unique mission raising the productivity of India’s industries and to make their limited resources gainfully utilized. Aided by ILO, the Government of India set up NITIE as the only training institute that sought to teach materials management, work study, inventory control, shop floor management and personnel management to India’s industry professionals.

Vision : “To be a leader in the knowledge led productivity movement.”

Mission : “To nourish a learning environment conducive to foster innovations in productivity and business development.”

Having amply established itself in industrial training, the institute launched its first Post Graduate Programme as a 2 year Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) in 1971, to teach graduates of engineering, the methods and techniques of industrial engineering. Subsequently, with its qualitative and quantitative teaching capabilities ably strengthened, NITIE introduced 3 more full time Post Graduate twoyear management programmes in Industrial Management (PGDIM), Industrial Safety and Environmental Management (PGDISEM) and Information Technology Management (PGDITM).

NITIE also offers fellowship programme of Doctorate level recognised as equivalent to Ph.D. of an Indian University. Along with training and management education, today NITIE is vigorously engaged in industrial consultancy, sponsored projects, and applied research. NITIE aspires to provide executive talent to help India manage emerging technologies. To this end, in its pedagogy NITIE has carefully crafted an unmatched blend of classroom education in such technologies, management principles and hands-on practice. Currently, NITIE is engaged in an aggressive upgradation of its infrastructure to achieve these goals.

NITIE has established a Centre of Excellence in Ergonomics and Human Factors Engineering (CEEHFE) as a part of the Government of India’s Technology Mission 2020 through TIFAC (Technology ABOUT NITIE
