Applications are invited from the eligible candidates who are willing to appear in the VBRET in the discipline of Education and Physical Education under Vinaya-Bhavana (Institute of Education). A candidate shall have to apply in the prescribed form available at the office of the Principal of Vinaya-Bhavana, paying requisite fees (Rs.400/- in case of General/OBC candidates and Rs.140/- in case of SC/ST candidates) through cash coupon in the university cash counter or through demand draft drawn in favour of Accounts Officer, Visva-Bharati, The filled-in prescribed application form should be accompanied by attested copies of necessary documents/testimonials and a write-up (about 1000 words) on their respective areas of research interests with a broad title may be sent to the Adhyaksha (Principal) of Vinaya-Bhavana (Institute of Education), Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan -731235, West Bengal, India. The applicants must submit separate application forms for separate programme. Any subsequent prayer for change of programme shall not be entertained, irrespective of the merit position of the concerned applicant in VBRET.

1. Information about VBRET:
a) Eligibility for Appearing VBRET: 55% marks or equivalent grade for General / OBC candidates and 50% marks or equivalent grade for the SC/ST candidates in concerned Master Degree (Education, or Physical Education) of two years duration. In case of M.Ed. Degree holders, the candidates should have passed Master Degree in any other discipline of two years duration with 55% marks each for those belonging to General / OBC category and 50% marks each for those belonging to SC /ST.
b) Candidates Exempted from VBRET: The following categories of candidates are exempted from VBRET:
• NET qualified candidate conducted by UGC
• SET/SLET qualified candidate conducted by any State
• Holder of UGC Teacher Fellowship
• M. Phil. Degree holder conforming to UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for award of M. Phil./Ph. D. Degree) Regulation 2009
However, candidates with M. Phil. Degrees conforming to UGC Regulation 2009 are exempted from Ph. D. Course Work. All the above categories of candidates including VBRET qualified ones have to appear before the interview on their respective areas of research interest.

c) Date of Issue and for Receiving Application Form: Application in the prescribed form will be available in the office of the Adhyaksha, Vinaya-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati Santiniketan-731235 from November 26, 2012. The last date for submitting the filled-in application in the same office is December 20, 2012.
d) Date of VBRET  : February 21, 2013 Time : 14.00 to 16.00 hrs
Duration: 2 hours (GRE Paper-I: 25 Min, DRE Paper-I: 25Min, DRE Paper-ll: 1.10 hrs)
e) Venue   : Department of Education, Vinaya-Bhavana.
f) Date & Time of Reporting and collection of Admit Card: The eligible candidates may report to and collect their Admit Card from the office of the Vinaya-Bhavana on February 21, 2013 between 12.00 to 13.00 hrs.
g) Medium of Examination: English
h) Syllabus: Respective syllabi of M.A. Education and M.P.Ed, of Visva-Bharati.

2. Paper and Marks:
VBRET will be conducted on a total of 100 marks with the following three question papers:
a) General Research Eligibility  (GRE):      GRE Paper-I = 25 marks
b) Discipline Research Eligibility (DRE): DRE Paper-I =25 marks
DRE Paper- II = 50 marks

3. Nature of Questions:
Common Paper (Common for Education and Physical Education )
GRE Paper-I: There will be 25 Multiple Choice Objective Type questions relating to General Knowledge on the areas of Research Methodology, Teaching Aptitude, Higher Education, Numerical Statistics, Reasoning, Series / Diagram, Mass commutation, Information Technology, Environment, Administration and Current Sports Affairs. Each question will carry 1 mark.

Education
DRE Paper-I: There will be 25 Multiple Choice Objective type questions, each carrying one (1) mark on different courses, i.e. Philosophical Foundations of Education, Sociological Foundations of Educations, Psychological Foundations of Education, Methodology of Educational Research and Application of Statistics in Educational Research.
DRE Paper-ll: There will be three sections. Section - I will contain one (01) essay type question with internal choice on contemporary issues of Education carrying 15 marks. In Section - II, there will be five (05) questions each carrying 10 marks covering the following areas: (i) Educational Administration and Management, (ii) Educational Measurement and Evaluation, (iii) Educational Technology, (iv)Special Education and (v) Teacher Education. The candidate is required to answer any two (02) questions out of those five (05). In Section - Ill, there will be five (05) questions on different courses, i.e. Philosophical Foundations of Education, Sociological Foundations of Educations, Psychological Foundations of Education, and Methodology of Educational Research and Application of Statistics in Educational Research. The candidate is required to answer any three (03) out of the five (05) questions. Each question will carry 5 marks.

Physical Education
DRE Paper-I: There will be 25 Multiple Choice Objective type questions relating to Physical Education. Each question will carry one (1) mark.
DRE Paper-ll: There will be three sections. In Section - I, there will be two (02) essay type questions each carrying 15 marks out of which only one (01) question to be answered. In Section - II, there will be three (03) short answer type questions each carrying 10 marks out of which only two (02) questions to be answered. In Section - III, there will be five (05) very short type answer questionseach carrying 05 marks out of which only three (03) questions to be answered.

4. Assessment Policy:
• Qualifying marks for GRE (Paper-I): 40%
• Qualifying marks in the VBRET: 50% for the General, 45% for the OBC and 40% for the SC / ST candidates obtained out of 100 in three papers (GRE Paper I + DRE Paper I + DRE Paper II).

5. Announcement of Results: March 28,2013.

6. Validity of VBRET: VBRET Certificate will remain valid for two years from the date of declaration of result.

7. Vacant Seats in Ph. D. Programme: Table I (Education) & Table II (Physical Education)

8. Nature of Ph.D. Course Work: Ph.D. Course Work is offered on fulltime basis. The qualified in-service candidates must obtain leave in Visva-Bharati approved Proforma from their respective employers prior to admission or from the date of commencement of Ph. D. Course Work class.
