NEET (UG) 2013 for admission to MBBS/BDS

 The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG), 2013, for admission to MBBS/BDS courses for the academic session 2013-14, under the All India Quota and State Quota, will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education on 5th May, 2013 (Sunday) at the  centres listed in Appendix I of the Information Brochure that can be downloaded from http://cbseneet.nic.in/cbseneet/Docs/NEETBulletinEnglish2013.pdf   Except AIIMS and JIPMER admission to all other Medical and Dental Colleges is expected to be based on merit positions in the NEET.

It will consist of one paper of 3 hours duration to be held from 10 am to 1 pm with 180 objective type questions  (four options with single correct answer)  from Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany & Zoology). Applicants should be Indian Nationals or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and should have completed 17 years age at the time of admission or should complete the age on or before 31st December, 2013. The upper age limit for candidates seeking admission under 15 pc All India Quota Seats is 25 years as on 31st December, 2013. The upper age limit will be relaxed by 5 years for applicants of Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward Classes. So applicant must have been born on or between 1.01.84 and 1.1.97 in case of SC/ST/OBC Category and on or between 1.1.89 and 1.1.97 for Other Category.

To be eligible for the State Quota Seats, applicant must be an Indian National and must have completed age of 17 years at the time of admission or should complete the age on or before 31st December, 2013. Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are eligible for admission in Medical/Dental Colleges subject to rules and Regulations framed by the respective State Governments and the Governmentof India.

Students from the States of Andhra Pradesh and J&K are not eligible for 15% all India quota seats as both these States had opted out of All India Scheme since its inception. If they claim eligibility, they must submit an affidavit, in original, as per proforma given in Appendix - II, of the Information Brochure, on non-judicial Stamp Paper of Rs 10/- duly sworn in before and attested by a Metropolitan Magistrate/First Class Judicial Magistrate. Details are available in the Brochure.

Qualifications: To be eligible for appearing for NEET, applicant must have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology at one of the qualifying examinationslisted below and in addition must have come in the merit list of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to MBBS/BDS courses.

In case of those belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology taken together in qualifying examination shall be 40 pc instead of 50 pc for General Candidates. Further, for persons with locomotory disability of lower limbs, minimum of 45 pc marks for Gen-PH and 40 pc marks for SC-PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH are required. Applicant should have passed one of the following Qualifying Examinations

(i) The Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education.

(ii) The Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science of an Indian University/ Board or other recognised examining body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Bio-technology (which shall include practical test in these subjects) and also English as a compulsory subject.

(iii) The Pre-professional/Pre-medical Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology & English after passing either the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination. The Pre-professional/Pre-medical examination shall include practical test in these subjects and also English as a compulsory subject

(iv) The first year of the three years’ degree course of a recognised University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology including practical tests in these subjects provided the examination is a University Examination and candidate has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology with English at a level not less than a core course

(v) B.Sc. Examination of an Indian University provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc. Examination with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology and further that he/ she has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English

(vi) Any other examination which in scope and standard (Last 02 years of 10+2 Study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology; Which shall include practical test in these subjects.) is found to be equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology including practical tests in each of these subjects and English.

Those appearing in the qualifying examination in 2013 are also eligible to apply but their admission to the MBBS or BDS, will be subject to their passing the qualifying examination with the required pass percentage of marks at the time of first round of Counselling.

In order to be eligible for admission to MBBS/BDS courses for a particular academic year, a candidate has to obtain minimum of marks at 50th percentile in ‘National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, held for the said academic year. However, in respect of those belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, the minimum marks shall be at 40th percentile. In respect of General candidates with locomotory disability of lower limbs, the minimum marks shall be at 45th percentile. The percentile shall be determined on the basis of highest marks secured in All-India common merit list in ‘National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for admission to MBBS/BDS courses.

If sufficient number of candidates in the respective categories fail to secure minimum marks as prescribed in National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test held for any academic year for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses, the Central Government in consultation with Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India may at its discretion lower the minimum marks required for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses for candidates belonging to respective categories and marks so lowered by the Central Government shall be applicable for the said academic year only. A candidate who has failed to obtain the minimum eligibility marks as above shall not be eligible for admission to MBBS/BDS courses.

Admission and Reservation: An All India merit list and State wise merit list of the qualified candidates will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test and candidates shall be admitted to MBBS/BDS courses from the said list only by following the already existing Reservation Policies. All admission to MBBS/BDS courses within in the respective categories shall be based solely on marks obtained in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test.

Under 15% All India Quota in government medical colleges, 15% seats are reserved for SC candidates, 7.5% seats for ST candidates and 27% seats for non-creamy layer OBC candidates in Central Educational Institutions only as per Supreme Court order dated 10.04.2008. 3 pc seats are reserved on horizontal basis for Physically Handicapped candidates (only for locomotory disabilities of lower limbs between 50 pc to 70 pc , provided that in case any seat in this 3 pc quota remains unfilled on account of unavailability of candidates with locomotory disability of lower limbs between 50 pc to 70 pc then any such unfilled seat in this 3 pc quota shall be filled up by persons with locomotory disability of lower limbs between 40 pc to 50 pc before they are included in the seats of respective category) in 15pc All India UG quota seat. Admission to Government funded Medical Institutions/Medical or Dental Colleges Affiliated to Central Universities/Deemed Universities etc. shall be subject to prevailing reservation policies and rules of admission applicable to the Institution/University Concerned.

Admission under 85 pc State quota seats in Government Medical Colleges shall be subject to reservation policy and Eligibility Criteria prevailing in the State/Union Territory as notified by the respective State/Union Territory from time to time. The reservation of seats in Medical Colleges for respective categories shall be as per applicable laws prevailing in State/Union Territory concerned. Admission to MBBS/BDS courses in Private Medical Colleges shall be subject to Policies of the State/Union Territory.

Admission to Armed Forces Medical College, Pune shall be subject to the norms prescribed by the Directorate of Armed Force Medical Service, Ministry of Defence, Government of India. Candidates Qualified in NEET-UG and opted for admission in AFMC are required to appear for a second stage Screening conducted by the AFMC. Candidates are advised to contact AFMC for further details. Candidates may contact respective authorities of State/ University/ Institution/ websites in advance for eligibility criteria and further details regarding admission.

Application Fee: Application fee (without late fee) will be Rs.1000/- for General/OBC and Rs.550/- for SC/ST/PH, if paid during the period from 1.12.2012 to 31.12.2012. It will be Rs. 2000/- and Rs. 1550/- respectively (inclusive of Late fee of Rs.1000/-) if paid during 1.1.2013 to 31.1.2013. One can apply for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) only on-line at www.cbseneet.nic.in.

Before submission of application form, applicant should decide the mode of payment of fee- through Debit/Credit Card using on-line gateway payment facility, or Depositing in CBSE Bank Account with Canara Bank or Syndicate Bank directly or Depositing in CBSE Account with Post Office by downloading the Challan Form from the website of www.cbseneet.nic.in.

If it is decided to pay fee off-line mode, choose the Bank or e-Post Office for depositing the Fee through Challan/Deposit Slip downloaded from website www.cbseneet.nic.in after completing Part-I of Registration. After Depositing Fee in the Bank/e-Post office, the Deposit Slip bearing Application Registration Number, Name and address of the Bank branch with branch code/Post Office with Pin Code where fee is deposited and transaction ID number be kept ready with you while logging on to website for final submission of Part-II of the application form.

To apply, applicant should log on to www.cbseneet.nic.in  and go to the link, ‘Apply On-line’ and open the same and Fill in the on-line application form Part-I and note down the registration number. Applicant should then make payment of fee through Debit/Credit Card or download Challan for payment in the designated accounts of Canara Bank/Syndicate Bank/e-Post Office and then fill in Part-II of the on-line Application Form furnishing the details of fee deposited. Then, the applicant should take print out of Confirmation page(s) (at least 4 copies) and Address Slip of the CBSE to be pasted on A5 (12” x 10”) Envelope for sending the complete application form to the CBSE. Three copies of the Confirmation page may be kept safely by the candidate for any future need.

One copy of the Confirmation Page, completed as per instructions for sending to the Board should reach ‘The Assistant Secretary (NEET Unit), CBSE, Shiksha Kendra, 2, Community Centre, PreetVihar, Delhi-110 092’, by Registered Post/ Speed Post only so as to reach latest by 10.01.2013 (20.01.2013 in case of applicants from remote areas), for those not paying late fee and 5.02.2013 for those paying late fee.

Admit Card for Applications submitted without Late Fee will be hosted on the site on 01.04.2013 and for those applications submitted with late fee, on 10.04.2013. Results are expected in the first week of June, 2013.
