The Bar Council of India will conduct the 6th All India Bar Examination on 19th January, 2014. The objective of The All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is to examine an advocate’s capability to practice the profession of law in India. It will assess skills at a basic level and is intended to set a minimum benchmark for admission to the practice of law. It will address a candidate’s analytical abilities and understanding basic knowledge of law.

Those passing the examination will be awarded ‘Certificate of Practice’ by the Bar Council of India soon after the declaration of results of the AIBE. In the interim period, one can practice on the basis of the declared result.

Only students graduating from academic year 2009-10 onwards need to clear the All India Bar Examination and get a certificate of practice in order to practice law in India. AIBE will be conducted in 39 cities all across India. The list of cities where the examination will be held will be mentioned in the OMR Application Form and the Online Application. Candidates will have 11 languages to choose for attempting the examination.

Applicant should have passed LLB & must be enrolled with any State Bar Council. The Examination Fee of Rs. 2500/-. A bank charge of Rs. 60/- has to be paid by applicants (fresh or repeat candidate). Application can be submitted online or using the printed form available from State Bar Councils.

Online application can be submitted at the available link at www.allindiabarexamination.com. Before online registration, applicant should keep ready, the Advocate ID card (if issued by State Bar Council), Enrolment Certificate and proof of date of birth. Applicant should click the ‘Registration’ button from the home page of www.allindiabarexamination.com and fill Registration Form on website. On completion, applicant should press ‘Finish Button’ on last page. After that, Registration Number &Password is generated and will be mailed to the e- mail ID of the applicant.

Using these details, applicant should ‘Login’ in the home page of www.allindiabarexamination.com. Applicant would see the registration details. Applicant should then click on the ‘Print Challan button’ and take a print of the challan. It must be ensured that the application number on the Application Form is same as it is printed on the bank challan. After 24 hours of registration, applicant should remit the application fee with the printed copy of challan at any branch of SBI. This is the only mode of payment.
Applicant should retain the sealed & signed ‘Candidate copy’ of challan with him/her.

Applicant should again login to his/her account after 24 hours of making the payment in the bank. Applicant will see the registration details. Applicant should click on the ‘Application form’ button, to view the application form. A print out of the same may be taken by clicking on the Print button.

Applicant should paste his/her photograph after writing the name & application number on the back of the photograph. Applicant should also put his/her signature on two designated places and also fill the challan details manually from the original copy of challan. The completed application along with the documents listed must reach ‘Bar Council of India, 21 Rouse Avenue, Institutional Area, ITO, Near Bal Bhawan, New Delhi-110002’, latest by the date specified.

The documents to be attached include Original BCI copy of challan, attested copy of Enrolment Certificate, attested copy of Advocate ID card (if issued by STBC), Attested copy of DOB proof. Documents should be attested by Notary or any Gazetted Officer. For any further reference, application number is to be used. The candidate must retain a Photocopy of their Application form for future reference.

Online Registration for AIBE-6 closes 0n 8th December, 2013 and the last date for Payment of challan for online registration is 13th December, 2013. The Last date of sale of Offline Application form at State Bar Council is 13th December, 2013 and the last date for payment of challan for offline registration is also 13th December, 2013.

The Last date for receiving of online & offline Application forms at BCI-Delhi is 23rd December, 2013. Online link activation date for Admit Card verification process for online & offline candidates are 2nd January, 2014. Last date of correction of online Admit Cards for online & offline candidates are 5th January, 2014.

The final online release of Admit Cards for online & offline candidates is 7th January, 2014. Admit Card will not be send to the address of candidate through post. Admit Cards will be made available online. Candidates should download their admit card as per the dates mentioned on the website.

Examination pattern will be multiple choice questions and it will be open book exam. AIBE will have a total of 100 multiple-choice questions, from the topics mentioned. The subjects are chosen from amongst the syllabi prescribed by the Bar Council of India for the three-year and five-year LL.B programmes at law schools in India. The topics and the number of questions from each are as follows. Constitutional Law (10 Questions); C.P.C (10), Cr. P.C (10), Evidence (8), Law of Contract, Specific Relief, Prop Laws, Spl Contract N.I Act (20), I.P.C (6), Jurisprudence (3), Professional Ethics& Cases of Professional misconduct under B.C.I rules (4), ADR + Arbitration Act (4), Limitation Act (2), Company Law (4), Family Law (4), Labour + Industrial Law (6), Administration Law (3), Law of Tort, including Motor Vehicle Accidents and Consumer Protection Law (6). There is no negative marking in the All India Bar Examination.

There is no separate cut-off for the sections. The Bar Council of India will provide assistance in the form of comprehensive preparatory materials that will be sent to the applicant once application is submitted for appearing for the examination. No separate payment would have to be made for these preparatory materials. The duration of the examination is 3 hours, 30 minutes. An advocate can leave the examination hall once they have completed the paper for the All India Bar Examination.

The minimum required score to clear the All India Bar Examination is 40%.The Bar Council will not release any percentage/percentile/ranking score for any advocate. Advocates attempting the All India Bar Examination would merely pass or fail the same. The Bar Council of India will notify the list of advocates who have successfully passed the All India Bar Examination.
