The Kerala State Higher Education Council has invited applications from first year undergraduate students pursuing the study of Sciences, Social Sciences, Business Studies and Humanities through aided courses in government/aided colleges during 2013-14 for the award of Higher Education Scholarship.

The scholarships available in 2013-14 will be distributed among different universities in the State. The number of scholarships set apart for each university would be decided on the basis of the student strength in first degree aided courses in Sciences /Humanities /Social Sciences/ Business Studies in the Govt./Aided colleges/ Departments under each university, calculated on the basis of sanctioned strength of each stream, in all Government/Aided Arts & Science colleges and University Departments in the previous year.

The scholarships would be given for a 5-year period starting with first-degree and ending with final year post-graduate education. The annual scholarship given to a student would be increased incrementally from Rs.12000 to Rs.60000 as he/she moves from the first year degree course to the final year post-graduate course, as given under:

Under Graduate Course (No. of Scholarships - 3000)
Rs. 12000/- (first year)
Rs.18,000/- (second year)
Rs.24,000/- (third year)

Post-Graduate Course (No. of Scholarships - 1200)
Rs. 40000/- (first year)
Rs.60,000/- (second year)

The scholarships in each stream shall be distributed among the following categories: 10% for SC/ST students; 3% for physically challenged students, 37% for students belonging to BPL families, excluding SC/ST/ physically challenged categories and 50% for the students in general category.

Minimum criteria for qualifying for the award of scholarship is the required minimum percentage of marks as follows:
1.  Schduled Tribe  -  Pass
2.  Scheduled Caste -  For science subjects 45% and all other subjects 40%
3.  General Category -  For Science 50% and  all other subjects 45%

The application for scholarship/renewal of the scholarship has to be submitted online by the student concerned in the format available in the website: www.kshec.kerala.gov.in.

Applicants have to produce the relevant certificates/mark lists in original to the Principal of the college/Head of the university department where he/she undergoes his/her course of study along with a printout of the filled-in application form.

All colleges/university departments and Principals/Heads of university departments will be provided with unique identification codes, in order to facilitative online administration of the scholarship scheme.

Last date of Online registration and Submission of printout of filled in application with supporting documents by the Applicant to the head of the institution is up to 31st December 2013.
