Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahemdabad has invited applications for admission to Junior Research Fellowships in the following broad scientific areas for Year 2014-15.
Astronomy & Astrophysics
Solar Physics
Geosciences
Planetary Sciences & Exploration
Space and Atmospheric Sciences
Theoretical Physics

Eligibility criteria for applying to the JRF programme:
MSc in one of the following subjects:
(1) Physics, Space Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry (Physical / Nuclear / Analytical), Geology, Geophysics, Ocean Sciences and Climate Sciences.
(2) The candidate must have taken Physics and Mathematics at the Under Graduate level.
(3) A minimum of 60% marks at Bachelor’s and Master’s level are required for all candidates.

Age Limit: Not more than 25 years as on 31st December 2013 (i.e., born on or after 31.12.1988).

Selection Procedure:
1. All the candidates interested in applying to the PRL JRF programme should fill the online application form. This is also applicable to candidates applying through various competitive examinations like JEST / GATE / CSIR-UGC-NET-JRF.

2. Each application will be screened. Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to selection in two stages: a written test, followed by an interview of those who score well in the written test. Candidates with high score in any one of JEST / GATE / UGC-CSIR NET may be invited to directly appear for the interview.

3. Those candidates whose MSc final results are not declared but qualify through the interview will be provisionally admitted, subject to their scoring 60% marks at MSc.

Fellowship and other relevant facilities:
Selected JRFs will be paid a fellowship of Rs.16,000/- per month which will be raised to Rs.18,000/- per month after two years, subject to a satisfactory academic review. A book grant of  Rs.7,500/- per year will be given for five years to purchase books that are relevant to the research work being carried out by the Research Fellow.

All the students will be required to undergo a two semesters of course work after joining the institute, and only after the successful completion of the course work, students will be allowed to join the research groups.
