1. Educational Requirements: (PhD Full-Time and Part Time)

(a) Candidates who have studied under 10+2 pattern of education and qualified for the Master’s Degree in the concerned Subject of faculty of science and Degree of Master of Science of three-year duration in the School / Faculty of Medicine of this University or of any other recognized University securing a minimum of 50% marks (or equivalent grade), candidates who have completed their Master’s degree / diploma (DM / MCh, MD / MS / PG Diploma) in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and allied Health Sciences with a minimum of 50 % of marks as approved by the Academic Council of this University.

(b) Candidates of Indian origin or overseas students who have qualified for a Master’s Degree in basic sciences / allied health sciences / faculty of Medicine of an accredited Overseas University securing a minimum of 50% marks(or equivalent grade).

2. Requirement of Experience: (PhD Part Time - Internal)

(a) Teacher candidates working in College / University departments and such other Institutions recognized by MCI / DCI / INC with at least one year of continuous teaching experience at undergraduate or post-graduate level in the subject concerned.

(b) Candidates under the regulations of part-time (Internal) shall be required to work in a department approved for research by this University while the Guide / Supervisor may or may not be working in the same department. Interdisciplinary research for such part-time internal candidates shall be allowed only with the approval of the Academic Council.

(c) For   PhD programme of clinical disciplines of Medicine, minimum one year experience in the concerned department for Diploma candidates. For candidates with PG Degree or equivalent there to, in the concerned subject, may be exempted from this experience criterion at the discretion of the Doctoral Committee, with the approval of the Academic Council.

(d) Technocrats, Scientists, Social Scientists & Scholars with at least 2 years of experience in India or abroad and Educational qualifications as prescribed for PhD Part-time programme, having sufficient exposure in research & development and generated useful data / patent / knowledge as evidenced by their contributions in their respective areas.

(e) Non-teaching staff employed in a time scale of pay in this University and other affiliated research Institutions provided that (i)the candidate has at least 5 years of continuous work experience of which at least two years should be relevant to the field of research, proof of which is to be evidenced through two research papers published in standard journals OR

(ii) the candidates has at least 3 years of work experience with MPhil in the subject concerned and published two research papers in standard journals in the subject concerned.

(f) Candidates under the regulations of part-time (Internal) are prohibited from taking any other remunerative assignments or joining any other course of study.

3. Requirement of Experience: (PhD Part Time - External)

(g) Permanent academic staff of college / Universities / other educational Institutions of higher learning / Research & Development Laboratories and organizations with at least two years of continuous teaching / research experience.

(h) For PhD programme of clinical disciplines of Medicine, minimum one year experience in the concerned department for Diploma candidates. For candidates with PG Degree or equivalent there to, in the concerned subject, may be exempted from this experience criterion at the discretion of the Doctoral Committee, with the approval of the Academic Council.

(i) Technocrats, Scientists, Social Scientists & Scholars and Administrators

with at least 10 years of experience in India or abroad and Educational qualifications as prescribed for PhD Part-time programme, having sufficient exposure in research & development and generated useful data / patent / knowledge as evidenced by their contributions in their respective areas of research.

(j) A candidate possessing a master’s degree from an accredited Overseas University and who is residing abroad or working abroad in a University / industry may also apply. Such applications shall be routed through the concerned department and placed before the PhD admission committee. There shall be sufficient correspondence between the candidate and the supervisor to effectively evaluate the candidate potential and feasibility of supervision on the identified topic. A well written research proposal should be placed before the admission committee along with the consent of the supervisor.

4. Requirement of Experience: (PhD Full Time)

(a) The candidate with research grant from a non SBV funding agency (NET qualified, GATE, ICMR, INSPIRE)

(b) The candidate willing to register with SBV, but on a non-stipendiary basis.

(c) The candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria but an NRI or overseas

The National Institute of Virology, 20-A, Dr. Ambedkar Road, Post Box No.11, Pune 411 001 has invited applications for PhD programme from candidates who are Bonafide Indian citizens and having consistently good academic record. Candidates should have strong motivation to pursue research in modern biology leading to a PhD degree.

Eligibility for NIV PhD Program:

1. The candidate should have Postgraduate degree in any branch of Life Sciences / Biological Sciences / Biotechnology / Microbiology / Bioinformatics having at least 50% or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA). Students belonging to reserved category Maharashtra state only will be eligible for 5% relaxation.

2. The candidate should hold a valid Junior Research Fellowship from CSIR / UGC / ICMR / DBT-INSPIRE / BINC on the date of joining. Candidates who have qualified GATE or only Lectureship in CSIR-UGC (NET) are not eligible to apply. NIV does not take any responsibility to provide financial assistance.

3. Other terms and conditions of the fellowship will be as directed by the agency awarding the fellowship. The upper age limit for JRF shall be 28 years which will be relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC / ST / Women / PH and 3 years in case of OBC candidates. Those who have already availed fellowship in other organizations and seeking transfer should clearly indicate so, on their application.

4. Reservation will be as per the Government of India guidelines.

5. There will be no relaxation for unreserved positions as per Govt. of India Order No.36011/1/98.Estt. (Res.) dt.01/7/1998.

Selection:

The valid GATE / NET qualified candidates only will be selected for the full time programme. Limited research fellowships are available under Institute fellowship, TEQIP-II fellowship and MNRE fellowship. The candidate should have basic degree in the concern department. (i) Essential Qualification for Admission

Before filling the Online Application Form the candidates are required to get the Demand Draft of requisite fee (Rs. 1000/- for Gen/OBC category and Rs. 500/- for SC/ST/PC category) prepared from any branch of nationalized bank in favour of Director, IARI, payable at New Delhi and fill its details in the Online Application Form.

After successful submission, the candidate should take a printout of the online submitted Application Form and send the hard copy of it to Registrar, PG School, IARI, New Delhi -12 along with attested copies of the following documents:

● Proof of Date of Birth.

● Matriculation (X) or equivalent certification and marks sheet.

● Intermediate (XII) of equivalent certification and marks sheet.

● Bachelor’s degree certificate and marks sheet.

● Master’s degree certificate and marks sheet.

● SC/ST/OBC/PC certificate (whichever is applicable).

● Certificate required from candidates appearing for M.Sc./M.Sc.(Ag.)/M.E. final year examination.

● Original Demand Draft in favour of Director, IARI, payable at New Delhi.

The application (consisting of printout of online application form) duly signed by the candidate along with the required documents (as mentioned in item No. vi above) must reach the Registrar, PG School, IARI, New Delhi-110012 on or before 15 April, 2015, the last date receiving the documents.

Admit Cards for the Entrance Examination to be conducted on 7th June, 2015 may be downloded during May 18, 2015 to June 7, 2015.

The entrance examination will be conducted in the cities namely; Bhopal, Coimbatore, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Udaipur, and Varanasi.

The candidates selected for admission at IARI, CIAE and IIHR shall be required to furnish a surety bond for an amount of Rs.50,000/- (Rupees fifty thousand only) on non-judicial stamp paper valuing Rs.100/- duly attested by the notary.

Applications are invited by Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali from prospective candidates for admission to the PhD Program in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Earth & Environment Science and Humanities & Social Sciences for the session beginning in August 2015.

Eligibility Criteria: The applicant should have a Master’s degree in Science / BTech / MBBS / MTech with a good academic record and should be GATE / CSIR or UGC-NET / JEST / NBHM-JRF / ICAR-JRF / ICMR-JRF / DBT-JRF / DST- INSPIRE qualified.

Candidates interested in pursuing research in interdisciplinary areas are also encouraged to apply.

Detailed criteria set by individual departments for PhD admissions:

Department of Biological Sciences:

The applicant should have MSc / BTech / MBBS / MTech or equivalent degree and should have a valid GATE / CSIR-UGC-NET / JGEEBILS (TIFR/ NCBS) / ICMR / DBT / DST-Inspire fellowship.

Department of Chemical Sciences:

The applicant should have MSc degree in Chemistry / Physics (with a minimum of 55% marks) and should have a valid NET / GATE / DST-Inspire fellowship in Chemistry / Physics.

Department of Mathematical Sciences:

The applicant should have MSc degree in Mathematics and should have a valid GATE / CSIR-UGC-NET / NBHM / DST-Inspire fellowship in Mathematics.

Department of Physical Sciences:

The applicant should have a Master’s degree in physics or a Bachelors / Master’s degree in Engineering, and should have a valid GATE / CSIR-UGC-NET / JEST / DST-Inspire fellowship in Physics.

Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences:

The applicant should have MSc / BTech / MTech in Atmospheric Chemistry / Earth and Environmental Science / Chemistry / Physics (with a minimum of 55% marks) and should have a valid GATE / CSIR-UGC-NET / DST-Inspire fellowship.

Department of Humanities and Social Sciences:

The applicant should have MA / MSc / MPhil degree (with a minimum of 55% marks) in one or more of the following subjects: Philosophy / Sociology / Anthropology / Modern Indian History / Archaeology / Prehistory / Paleoanthropology / Ancient Indian History / Gender studies / Geography or related areas such as development studies, South Asian studies. UGC / NET is desirable.
