COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICE EXAMINATION (I) 2010 - UPSC

COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICE EXAMINATION (I) 2010

The Union Public Service Commission has notified the Combined Defence Service Examination (I) 2010 for admission to Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy and Air Force Academy for the courses commencing in January 2011 and Officers Training Academy, Chennai for the courses (Men and Women) commencing in April, 2011.

Approximate number of vacancies are 250 at IMA, 40 at NA, 32 at AFA, 175 at OTA (Men) and 18 at OTA (Women).

Age, Sex and Marital Status: For admission to Indian Military Academy, applicants should be Unmarried Males born not earlier than 2nd January, 1987 and not later than 1st January, 1992.

For admission to Naval Academy, applicants should be unmarried males born not earlier than 2nd January 1989 (2nd January, 1987 in case of NCC Naval Wing 'C' Certificate holders) and not later than 1st January 1992.

For admission to Air Force Academy, applicant should be unmarried male born not earlier than 2nd January, 1988 and not later than 1st January 1992.

For Officer's Training Academy (SSC Course for Men), applicant should be male (married or unmarried) born not earlier than 2nd January 1986 and not later than 1st January 1992.

For Officer's Training Academy –SSC (Women Non-Technical Course), unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees (in possession of divorce document) who have not remarried are eligible. They should have been born not earlier than 2nd January 1986    and not later than 1st January 1992.

Educational Qualification: Applicants for Indian Military Academy and Officer's Training Academy should hold a Degree of a recognised University or equivalent.

For Naval Academy, applicant should be a Bachelor of Science (with Physics and Mathematics) or Bachelor of Engineering.

For Air Force Academy, applicant should have a Degree of a recognised University with Physics and Mathematics at Plus Two level or Bachelor of Engineering. 

Candidates who are studying in the final year Degree course and have yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply but they will be required to submit proof of passing the Degree examination to reach the concerned authority (Details in the Notification) latest by 13th November, 2010, for admission to IMA, Naval and Air Force Academy and by 1st February, 2011
For admission to Officer's Training Academy, Chennai.

Physical Standards: Applicant must be physically fit as per the physical standards for admission as given in Appendix-V of the Notice for the Examination.

Application can be submitted in the Common Application Form of the UPSC which can be purchased form designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices against cash payment of Rs.20/-. The list of outlets where the forms will be available is given in the Notification.

Fee of Rs.100/- has to be paid by way of Central Recruitment Fee Stamp only. All female applicants and SC/ST applicants are exempted from the payment of Fee. OBC applicants have to pay the fee.

Filled in applications should reach 'Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shajahan Road, New Delhi-110069', by hand/Post/Speed Post/Courier latest by 26th October 2009. In respect of applicants residing abroad or in certain remote areas specified in the Notice, the last date for receipt of application by Post/Speed Post only will be 3rd November 2009.

The selection process includes written examination and Interview for intelligence and personality test for candidates called for interview, at one of the Services Selection Centres.

For Admission to Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy and Air Force Academy the written examination consists of three papers (English, General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics), each of two hours duration and carrying 100 marks each. For Admission to Officers' Training Academy, there will be two papers (English, General Knowledge) for the written examination, each of two hours duration and carrying 100 marks each.
