JOINT MANAGEMENT ENTRANCE TEST (JMET) 2010
 
Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET), the first  step in the process of admission to the 2 year Full time Postgraduate Degree Programmes in Management offered by the IITs at Bombay (Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management), Delhi (Department of Management Studies), Kanpur (Department of Industrial & Management Engineering), Kharagpur (Vinod Gupta School of Management), Madras (Department of Management Studies) and Roorkee (Department of Management Studies), will be held between 1000 hrs and 1300 hrs on December 13, 2009 (Sunday) at the following Centres (City Code in brackets).

The Test will have 120 objective type questions from Verbal Communication, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation. Candidates have to mark the correct choice by darkening the appropriate bubble against each question on an Objective Response Sheet (ORS). There will be negative marking for wrong answers to the extent of 25% of the allotted marks. ELIGIBILITY:
Eligibility criteria to apply for the Programmes at the various IITs are given at
 
Students in their final year of qualifying Degree Course are also eligible to apply. Such candidates, if  selected, will be admitted provisionally, and their continuation in the Programme is subject to the completion of all requirements for the qualifying Degree and submission of provisional Degree certificate on or before the date stipulated by the admitting Institute.

JMET is only a qualifying examination. Candidates have to apply separately to the Institutes of their choice. They may look up the details provided in the online e-brochure about the Programmes available in the participating Institutes. There is no limit to the number of Programmes a candidate can apply to, so long as the eligibility criteria is met. The results of JMET provide a basis to each participating Institute to shortlist potential candidates for conducting its own selection process like Group Discussion/Interview etc.

However, calling the candidates for such later process of selection is the prerogative of the admitting Institute. JMET qualified candidates may contact the Management Departments/ Schools of the concerned institutes for additional information, if any. Candidates should also note that the final selection would depend on their performance in each of the components of the selection process.

APPLICATION:
JMET 2010 Application Form has to be submitted online at http://gateonline.gateiisc.in/jmet_web_2010/online_app/online_app.html  Online submission of application can be done by accessing the website of any of the IITs or IISc. Submission of online application form will commence on   7th September 2009 (Monday). The website for online application will be closed at 6 pm on 9th October 2009 (Friday).    The application fee for JMET 2010 is Rs.350/- for SC/ST/PD candidates and Rs. 750/- for all other candidates.

Application can be submitted in one of the two modes of applying based on the method of payment of fee, to be chosen by the applicant. In the Core Banking Method, applicant should access the JMET 2010 website and register as a user. A challan with a unique challan number will be generated. The applicant should print the generated challan which has the Bank Account number and the fee amount for the specified category pre-printed on it. The challan has to be taken to any branch of SBI within India and the payment made, ensuring that the Bank notes down the unique challan number and the Applicant's name while making the payment at the Bank. Subsequently, applicant has to access the online JMET 2010 application website, sign-in at the website and fill in the application form by core banking method keeping ready the digital images of the applicant's photo and signature in .jpg format and less that 150Kb in size, which has to be uploaded through the JMET 2010 website. The application will be confirmed within two working days if no other documents need to be sent by post.  In the Demand Draft Method, applicant must obtain a Demand Draft corresponding to the application fee amount (Rs.350/- for SC/ST/PD candidates and Rs. 750/- for all other candidates) in favour of 'IISc, Bangalore', payable at Bangalore.

Subsequently, applicant must access the JMET 2010 application website and enter the requested 6 digit DD number and the 9 digit MICR number that is printed on the DD and also enter the other relevant JMET 2010 related data. Applicant should also have the digital images of his/her photo and signature in .jpg format and less that 150Kb in size which has to be uploaded through the JMET 2010 website. Applicant must take a printout of the PDF application form, enclose the application form printout and the DD in an envelope and send it by Seed Post to 'The Chairman, GATE Office, IISc, Bangalore -560012'. After receipt of the application and DD by post, the application will be confirmed. This may take from 4 days to a week depending on postal delivery.

For General/OBC candidates, if core banking approach has been used and if the photo and signature are uploaded, then no posting is required. However, posting is required if fee payment is by DD, the category is SC/ST, the applicant is Physically Disabled or photo and signature have not been uploaded .

GATE Office, IISc Bangalore will post the JMET 2010 Admit Card by Speed Post to the address given in the application form by 30th October, 2009. If Admit Card is not received by 1st December, 2009, applicant should contact the GATE Office, IISc Bangalore or visit the website to know the Registration Number and the address of the test centre. JMET 2010 results will be announced at 1000 hours on January 4, 2010 at GATE offices of IISc/IITs. It will also be available on the websites of IISc/IITs. The JMET website will provide the JMET scores to both qualified and non-qualified candidates. JMET 2010 score is valid for one year from the date of announcement of the results. Scorecard will be sent only to the qualified candidates. The scorecard will indicate All India Rank, total marks and the marks obtained in each of the four sub-categories viz. Verbal communication, Logical reasoning, Quantitative ability and Data interpretation.
