The applications for the process of admission and registration to programmes leading to Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in various subjects / disciplines ( Table-1 http://www.gkvharidwar.org/notices/phd/2011/pros.pdf ) shall be done as per UGC norms approved by the Academic Council of the Vishwavidyalaya from time to time. The admission to the said programme shall be (i) through the Research Entrance Test (RET) to be conducted by the Vishwavidyalaya (ii) Directly without appearing in RET.
The Ph.D. Course will be allowed only in those subjects where in Post-Graduate Courses are being taught in this Vishwavidyalaya. However, the permission given earlier for subjects by the Academic Council of Vishwavidyalaya and approved by Senate will continue. Shradhanand Vedic Shodh Sansthan will conduct Ph.D. Programme in Sanskrit, as earlier. The subjects approved by Academic Council for Ph.D. Programme shall be covered by these rules and regulations.

ELIGIBILITY
A candidate holding Master Degree or its equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% for SC / ST/ person with disabilities) in the main subject or in an allied subject is eligible for the Research Entrance Test (RET) and registration for Ph.D. Degree. Eligible candidate shall be permitted to carry on research in concerned department of the Vishwavidyalaya.

RESERVATION
Reservation for the students belonging to Other Backward Class (OBC) /Schedule Caste (SC) / Schedule Tr ibe (ST) / Person wi th Disabilities (PWD) is given as per the reservat ion policy of the Govt . of India.

Note : 1. For O.B.C. Categary, Caste Certificate issued by the Govt. of India will be accepted only.

2 . Reservat ion category B, E & F seats, if vacant , may be f i l led amongst general category candidates.

Reservation for Other Backward Class (OBC) category shall be given as per The Central Educational Institution (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2006 No. 5 of 2007. The OBCs who are eligible for availing the benefits of reservation should be from the central list of Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBCs) / Other Backward Classes (OBCs) as per Resolution No. 12011/68/93 DCC (C) of the Ministry of Welfare (now the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment) as modified from time to time and the rules/criteria of exclusion of socially advanced persons/sections.

Candidates belonging to "creamy layer" (As per the resolution No. 1-1/200 5-V, 1A/846 dated 20th April, 2008 of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education and amended from time to time), shall not be entitled to avail the benefit of reservation for OBCs.

1. ADMISSION CRITERIA
The candidates shall be selected for Ph.D. registration (i) Through Research Entrance Test (RET), and (ii) Direct Admission (without appearing in RET). Procedure for admission will be as follows

(i) Through Research Entrance Test : A candidate possessing the minimum qualifications with the requisite
percentage of marks shall be eligible to appear in the written test.
Written Test / Examination : 100 marks Duration of examination : 2 hrs
Subject knowledge (Objective / multiple - choice type)

Note-
(a) Paper setter shall set 100 questions from the syllabus and each question shall carry one mark.
(b) Number of questions should be set equally from each unit (ten questions from each unit) of the prescribed syllabus provided by the concerned department for RET.
(c) No scrutiny / re-evaluation of the answer books of the written test shall be allowed in any case at any stage.
(d) There shall not be any negative marking.
(e) The Qualifying Percentage of Marks would be 50%
Admission to the Ph.D. programme in each subject shall be made after qualifying the RET against the available seats in the concerned department. While granting admission to the candidate for Ph.D. programme the reservation policy shall be followed as per rules.
(ii) Direct Admission (Without appearing in RET): A candidate who fulfils one of the following requirements may be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. programme without appearing in Research Entrance Test (RET).
(a) A candidate who qualified UGC/CSIR(NET-JRF)/NET/SLET /GATE examinations.
(b) A candidate having M.Phil. Degree in the concerned/relevant subject through an entrance examination and course work as per UGC (Minimum Standards and procedure for award of M.Phil. Degree), Regulation 2009.
(c) A candidate who is a teacher fellowship holder selected under Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) / Faculty Development Programme (FDP).


Procedure for Admission

z List of eligible candidates for admission in Ph.D. programme shall be provided by the Registrar office to the concerned Head of Department at the earliest.

z RET is only the eligibility test for Ph.D. courses. The eligibility of the candidates will be valid for current acadmic session only. The candidates who have qualified the RET will be called for interview to discuss their research area before the departmental committee consisting all the permanent faculty members of the department (including those from KGM Haridwar/Dehradun) chaired by Head of the concerned department.

z Final selection of the candiadte shall be made on the basis of discussion about research area of his interest and interview. The seat shall remain vacant in the concened subject, if any candidate is not found suitable even after the above process.

z The supervisor shall be allocated to the candidate in the Departmental committee meeting subject to availability of seats and supervisors consent only, keeping in view of the specialization of the supervisor as well as the research interest of the candidate during his/her interview.

z The same criteria for admission shall be aplicable to RET -exempted candidates.

2. APPLICATION /TEST FEE
A candidate desirous of appearing in Research Entrance Test (RET) or direct admission (without appearing in RET) shall pay the application fee of Rs. 800/- (including postal charges) in cash or through demand draft issued by any bank in favour of "Registrar, Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya" payable at Haridwar. The applicant is advised to write his / her name and name of the main subject / discipline (alongwith code no.) on the reverse side of the demand draft. Application / test fee shall neither be refunded nor transferred for any other course.

NOTE :

1. The result of RET and all information regarding admission shall be displayed on the notice board. Theselected candidates will be informed by registered post. However, Vishwavidyalaya will not be responsiblefor any postal delay. Hence, the candidates are advised to be in touch with the concerned department.

2. RET is only the eligibility test for Ph.D. courses. The eligibility of the candidates will be valid for currentacadmic session only.
