Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT)
A PG Programme in a U.S. University

The only programme, perhaps, offered in our conventional university system on the lines of a postgraduate programme in a U.S. university is the Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) offered by the Consortium of Institutions of Higher Learning (CIHL) formed by the universities in Andhra Pradesh, in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), USA. The unique programme is now offered at the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, and Jawa-harlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad, while from this year, it being introduced at the' JNTU, Kakinada, in view of the growing demand.

The programme is designed to enable students to emerge technically competent, highly productive, and self-motivated professionals. MSIT is based on project-centred curriculum and it focuses on projects that are inspired from corporate scenarios.

It employs a unique 'sequential learning' technique and student moves on to the next segment only after thoroughly mastering the preceding segment. The programme does not rely on digital content alone. It combines the strengths of sophisticated educational technologies and personalised mentoring like a "gu-rukul." The mentors of MSIT are highly qualified with many of them trained at Carnegie Mellon University. Students use laptops for performing their tasks, oriented towards their project work. Wired and wireless network are made available 24x7.

The two-year course offers specialisations in areas in demand in the software industry such as software engineering computer networks, e-Commerce,. language technologies, information security and education technologies. A software engineering foundation course is offered during the second year for all the students. Any engineering graduate or postgraduate in Computer Science, Mathematics or Statistics are eligible, for the two-year course. A separate three-year course is also offered on similar lines and it is open to B.Sc. (Mathematics, Computer science or IT) and BCA degree holders.
