CSIR-CGCRI offers Integrated M.Tech.-Ph.D. programme in Glass and Ceramic Engineering to bright young Graduates/Post-Graduates under the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR)*

The Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR) is established with a view to maximizing the number of qualified researchers and professionals in the domain of science and engineering, who will be equipped with the skills of innovation and interdisciplinary research.

CSIR-Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute, a premier National Laboratory of India, has been in the vanguard of numerous ground-breaking developments in the area of glass and ceramics in India right from its inception as one of the first four National Laboratories set up under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Govt. of India and has still been the only Institute of India dedicated to the research and development on glass and ceramic materials.  CSIR-CGCRI has been successfully  serving  the strategic sectors such as defence, atomic energy, space research etc and civil sector as well.

The CSIR-CGCRI invites applications for full-time Research Programme (Integrated M.Tech.-Ph.D.) in Glass and Ceramic Engineering from highly motivated engineering and science graduates as per the eligibility stated below:
a) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology with exceptionally good academic records and having valid GATE scores and possessing keen interest in research. There is an exit option after two years, where the candidates will be awarded only M.Tech. degrees.
b) Master’s degree in Science with  good academic records and  valid GATE scores or UGC/CSIR NET or valid CSIR-SRF, INSPIRE or equivalent fellowship
c) Master’s degree in  Engineering / Technology who have secured Master’s degree admission based on GATE scores (for Ph.D. programme in Glass and Ceramic Engineering)

The programme will commence on August 17, 2012 and includes course work comprising core and elective subjects. The number of courses to be prescribed will be determined as per the CSIR guideline.

Research Themes:
Fibre lasers, FBG sensors, photonic materials, fibre amplifiers, low phonon glass, fluorescent cooling of glass, bioceramics, drug delivery, biomedical sensors, smart materials, multiferroics, orbitronics, CNT-based sensors, enose, functional coatings, mesoporous materials, zeolite membranes, nanoclays, SOFC, lithium-ion battery, ceramic armour, transparent ceramics, ceramic ball bearing, biomorphic composites, waste utilization, advanced refractories and others.

Age limit: Upper age limit is 28 years as on 01.8.2012 which is relaxable by five years for SC/ST/ OBC/ Women / Physically handicapped candidates.  
The programme will commence from 17 August, 2012 and includes course work with choice of elective subjects.

Fellowship : Candidates selected for the above Programme shall draw their fellowship and other allowances, contingency etc., as per the scheme applicable to the candidates.

Selection  : Eligible candidates possessing the minimum educational qualifications as prescribed above will be called for test and / or interview by the Selection Committee of CSIR-CGCRI.  Based on the academic record and the performance of the candidates in the test and /or interview, the Selection Committee will recommend the names of the selected candidates to the respective Deans. The number of candidates called for test / interview will be commensurate with the number of seats available in CSIR-CGCRI.

Notes:       
1.  No TA/DA shall be paid to the shortlisted candidates for attending the interview and they will have to make their own arrangement for accommodation.
2. Registration of the selected candidates at CSIR-CGCRI will be on August 13-14, 2012 and commencement of the session is scheduled on August 17, 2012.
3.  Candidates having JRF/SRF or equivalent must have a valid and tenable fellowship as on 01.8.2012.
4.  All candidates with B.E. / B.Tech. as qualifying degree shall be shortlisted only if they meet a minimum cut-off of 70% marks or 7.0 CGPA and valid GATE scores.
5. Last date of on-line submission of application is on 18th May, 2012.
