ADMISSION TO BAMS COURSE – SESSION 2011 – 2012
(NRI / NRI Sponsored / Foreign Students)

RAJIV GANDHI AYURVEDA MEDICAL COLLEGE has been established by the Government of Puducherry as an autonomous institution of Government of Puducherry and is administered by a duly constituted Governing Body headed by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Puducherry as the Chairman and the Secretary (Health) as the Vice Chairman.

The Institute is located in a 10 acres of land in Chalakara, Mahe. Mahe lies in between Kannur & Kozhikode in NH17 of Kerala State. Nearest Airports are Kozhikode (70 kms) of Kerala and Mangalore (160 kms) of Karnataka state. Mahe is connected by rail in the Thiruvananthapuram – Mangalore rail route. Most of the express trains stop at Mahe railway station.

The Government of India, Dept. of Ayush has permitted to admit 50 students each year and the institute is affiliated to Pondicherry University which is a Central University established under an Act of Parliament. The institute is having a very good library with 1250 books at present.

A 100 bedded Hospital is attached to the institute.

Out of the 50 students 42 students are admitted purely on merit basis by the Centralized Admission Committee (CENTAC), Government of Puducherry, based on the marks arrived at by adopting the method of normalization.

The balance 7 seats are filled by the NRI / NRI sponsored / foreign students on merit basis adopting the method of normalization and 1 seat is reserved for Malaysian national by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.

Non Resident Indian (NRI) :

An NRI student is one who has a NRI status. Students who have studied their qualifying examination equivalent to 10+2 of India from schools or colleges abroad (outside India) will be considered as NRI student.

NRI sponsored student :

An NRI sponsored student is an Indian citizen whose direct blood relative (Parents, Grand parents, Direct brother/sister of parents or candidate) is an NRI.

Foreign student :

Students holding the passport issued by foreign countries including people of Indian origin who has acquired nationality of foreign countries is classified as foreign students. PIO card holders, OCI (dual citizens) are eligible for the above category.


Eligibility to apply for BAMS course:
Students must have completed and passed 10+2 examination under CBSE/ISC/State Board syllabus with physics, chemistry, biology (botany and zoology) and English and should have obtained 50% Physics, Chemistry, Biology put together and passed in English and percentage is 40% for MBC, OBC, SC, ST candidates. Candidates who are applying for admission under the NRI/sponsorship/ foreign student category should have successfully completed equivalent qualification prescribed for the local candidates for consideration for admission to this course and the qualification should be recognized by the Pondicherry University.

NRI / Foreign students must have completed the 12th grade and secured a pass before the admission. A grade point average of 3 (on a scale of 1-4) or above that in the course subjects of biology, physics, chemistry are preferred. Wherever all subjects grades like A, B-, C+ are used by the schools, appropriate equivalents in terms of percentage like 90%, 75% and 60% should be made available. Only students from high schools accredited by the respective state or the country is eligible for admission and the statement to this effect must be produced.

Applicants from Cambridge University should possess a GEC advance level (A levels) in physics, chemistry and biology and pass in AS level in English course. 86-93 in class XII examinations.

Age:
Candidates should have completed 17 years of age as on 31.12.2011.

The admissions made are provisional and subject to approval by the Pondicherry University.

Process of application and admission :
Down load the application form the website (www.pkmc.edu.in ) and attach the following documents after filling the required details :
I. Certificate (English translated copy of the marks), grade sheet of the qualifying examination.
II. Certified copy of the grade equivalent to marks of Boards of Schools.
III. Copy of passport.
IV. Proof of NRI status of the student / parents / sponsor.
V. Colour passport size photograph (Four Nos.)

Application fee of US $ 50 or Indian rupees 2000/- in the form of a bank draft / cashier cheque in favour of RAJIV GANDHI AYURVEDA MEDICAL COLLEGE, MAHE and payable at Mahe. Selection :
The order of selection is as follows:
1) Preference will be given to candidates belonging to Puducherry Union Territory and NRI sponsored candidates of Puducherry Union Territory.
2) NRI candidates of other region.
3) NRI sponsored candidates of other region.
4) Foreign candidates.

In case the eligible applicants are more than 7, the selection of candidates will be based on the Merit List based on the marks arrived at by adopting the method of normalization as followed by Centralized Admission Committee (CENTAC) of Government of Puducherry. Tuition fee:

US $ 15,000 for 4 ½ years (duration of the BAMS course) + 1year internship which is to be paid in one instalment within five days from the date of dispatch of admission letter by e-mail/information over phone. If the candidate studies the course beyond 4 ½ years the tuition fees will be increased proportionately.

Caution Deposit :

Library Deposit : `.5,000/- or equivalent US $
Hostel : At present hostel for female candidates is functioning in the rented building and new hostels under construction in the college campus.
Utility charges : `.5,000/- per annum.
Caution Deposit: `.5,000/- (Refundable)
The Mess fees will be on monthly basis which may be around `.2500/- per month.

The following certificates should be produced at the time of joining:
1) 12th grade mark sheet.
2) Birth certificate.
3) Conduct certificate from the school last studied.
4) Photocopies of the first page of the passport with the photograph and also the visa to enter the country (Student visa, PIO Card or OCI card).
5) High school diploma certificate.
6) Accredition certificate.
7) 4 passport size photographs (colour).
8) Parent’s photograph – one (colour).
9) Certificate showing the proof for blood relationship for NRI sponsored candidate.
10) Proof of NRI status of student/parents/guardian.
