examination for recruitment to the posts mentioned in para 2 below will be held by
the Union Publ ic Service Commission commencing from the 3rd December, 2 0 1 1 i n a c c o r d a n c e w i t h t h e R u l e s published by the Ministry of Mines in the Gazette of India dated the 20th August, 2011 at the following centres.

The centres and the dates of holding the examination as mentioned above are
liable to be changed at the discretion of the commission. While every effort will
be made to allot the candidates to the c e n t r e o f t h e i r c h o i c e f o r t h e examination, the commission may, at their discretion allot a different centre to a candidate, when circumstances so warrant. candidates admitted to the
examination will be informed of the time t a b l e a n d p l a c e o r p l a c e s o f examination.
Candidates should note that no request f o r c h a n g e o f c e n t r e wi l l n o rma l l y b e granted. When a candidate, however , desires a change in centre from the one he/she had indicated in his/her application form for the Examination, he/she must send a letter addressed to the Controller of E x a m i n a t i o n s , U n i o n P u b l i c S e r v i c e Commission, giving full justification as to why he/she desires a change in centre.

Such requests will be considered on merits b u t r e q u e s t s r e c e i v e d a f t e r t h e 1 9 t h October, 2011 will not be entertained under any circumstances nor will such communications be replied to.

2 . T h e c a t e g o r i e s o f p o s t t o w h i c h recruitment is to be made on the results of this examinat ion and the approximate number of vacancies in the various posts are given below :
Category I : (Posts in the Geological
Survey of India, Ministry of Mines).
Geologist, Group “A” 300
Ca t e g o r y I I : ( P o s t s i n t h e Ce n t r a l Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources)
(i) Jr. Hydrogeologists (Scientist B), Group “A” 07
(ii) Assistant Hydrogeologists, Group “B” 30
NOTE : 15 vacancies of Geologists are r e s e r v e d f o r P h y s i c a l l y C h a l l e n g e d c a n d i d a t e s b e l o n g i n g t o t h e H e a r i n g Impairment Category.
One vacancy of Junior Hydro-geologist is r e s e r v e d f o r P h y s i c a l l y C h a l l e n g e d Candidate belonging to the blindness/low v i s i o n c a t e g o r y a n d o n e v a c a n c y o f Assistant Hydrogeologist is reserved for Physically Challenged candidates belonging to the Hearing Impairment Category.
The above number of vacancies are liable to alteration.


Appointments will be made on a temporary basis in the first instance.

2(b). A candidate may apply for admission to the examination in respect of any one or both the categories, mentioned in Para
2(a) above. Once an application has been made, no change will be allowed.
If a candidate wishes to be admitted for both the categories, he/she need send in only one appl icat ion. He/She wi l l be required to pay the fee mentioned in para 4 below once only and will not be required t o p a y s e p a r a t e f e e f o r e a c h o f t h e categories for which he/she applies.
A candidate may compete for any one or both the categories of Posts for which he/
s h e i s e l i g i b l e i n t e r m s o f R u l e s . A
c a n d i d a t e w h o q u a l i f i e s f o r b o t h t h e
categories of Posts on the result of written part of examination will be required to
indicate clearly in the Detailed Application Form the categories of Posts for which he/ she wishes to be considered in the order of preference so that having regard to his/ her rank in order of merit, due consideration can be given to his/her preference
when making appointment.

N.B. (i): No request for addition/alteration in the preferences indicated by a candidate in his/she detailed application form will be entertained by the Commission.
N.B.(ii) The candidates competing for both the categories of the Posts will be allotted to Posts strictly in accordance with their merit position, preference exercised by them and number of vacancies.


IMPORTANT
1. CANDIDATES TO ENSURE THEIR ELIGIBILITY FOR THE EXAMINATION:
The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions for admission to the Examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions.
Mere issue of admission certificate to the candidates will not imply that his/her candidature has been finally cleared by the commission.
Commission take up verification of eligibility conditions with reference to original documents only after the candidate has qualified for Interview/Personality Test.

2. HOW TO APPLY:
(a) Candidates are required to apply online only by using the website http://
www.upsc.online.nic.in Detailed instructions for filling up online applications are available on the abovementioned website. However candidates residing in certain remote areas specified in Para 6 of this Notice, may also apply through offline mode, by using the New Common Application Form (Form-E) being used for examinations conducted by the Commission. This Form can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices (specified in Appendix III of the Notice) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs. 30/- (Rupees Thirty Only).
Each such Form can be used only once and only for one examination.
In case of any difficulty in obtaining Application Forms from the designated HPOs/ Pos, the candidates should immediately contact the concerned Post Master or UPSC’s “FORMS SUPPLY MONITORING CELL” over Telephone No. 011- 23389366/FAX No. 011-23387310. It may be noted that all offline applications, if any, received from candidates residing in normal areas/abroad, shall be summarily rejected by the Commission. The option of offline application is
available only to candidates residing in specified remote areas.
(b) Candidates are advised to read carefully the “Instructions for filling up the Online Application Form” given in Appendix-II (A) and Instructions for Offline Applications given in Appendix II (B) of this notice.

3. LAST DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS:
(a) Online (From all candidates):
The Online Applications can be filled upto 19th September 2011 till 11.59 PM after which the link will be disabled.
(b) Offline (From candidates residing in specified remote areas only):
All Offline applications from candidates residing in Remote Areas only specified in para 6 of this Notice must reach the “Controller of Examinations, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069” by Post/Speed Post only by 26th September, 2011. Candidates should note that no applications will be received by Hand or by Courier.

4. FACILITATION COUNTER FOR GUIDANCE OF CANDIDATES :
In case of any guidance/information/clarification regarding their applications, candidature etc. candidates can contact UPSC’s Facilitation Counter near Gate ‘C’ of its campus in person or over Telephone No. 011-23385271 /011-23381125 /011- 23098543 on working days between 10.00 hrs. and 17.00 hrs.

5. MOBILE PHONES BANNED :
(a) Mobile phones, pagers or any other communication devices are not allowed inside the premises where the examination is being conducted. Any infringement of these instructions shall entail disciplinary action including ban from future xaminations.
(b) Candidates are advised in their own interest not to bring any of the banned items including mobile phones/pagers to the venue of the examination, as rrangement for safe-keeping can not be assured.
6. Candidates are advised not to bring any valuables/costly items to the Examination Halls as safe keeping of the same cannot be assured. Commission will not be responsible for any loss in this regard.
Candidates are required to apply only through Online mode (except candidates residing in remote areas specified in para 6 of this Notice who have the option of applying through offline or online mode
