Applications
are invited by Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research,
Jakkur, Bangalore for the Winter School programme to be held from December 3 to
8, 2012 from graduate (PhD) students, post-doctoral fellows and early career
faculty from various institutions in India and worldwide.
The
winterschool-2012, “Frontiers in Materials Science”, aims at introducing recent
advances of research in materials science to graduate students, young researchers
and scientists with background in physics, chemistry and engineering. Topics to
be covered in the winterschool include phase transitions and ferroic materials;
elasticity, strain and mechanical behavior; multi-scale modeling; organic
semiconductors; materials for phase change based memories; materials
electrochemistry and batteries; amorphous materials; growth and properties of
III-V semiconductors; soft materials; thermoelectrics; opto-electronic
properties of nano-clusters; surfaces and catalysis, etc. One hour lectures
will be delivered by eminent scientists from JNCASR, Cambridge University and
other international institutes, providing a pedagogic view of the background
and emerging ideas in various areas of materials science, and also present cutting
edge research approaches through examples from their own work. Active
participation from students and young researchers is strongly encouraged
through poster presentations, a few oral presentations and interactions with
the lecturers.
